Dean remembers last night’s dream. Willow and Mason struggle to keep the gym going. Ryder takes matters into his own hands to help Raffy.
Extended Summary
Dean is woken up by his alarm. He is shocked to see that his hands are covered in dirt and his feet are bleeding. At the farm house, Maggie complains to Ben that she still can’t get the green light from the department to give Simone a contract. She’s explained the gap in learning support and doesn’t know what else she can do. Ben is planning to do some work on Bella’s room but then gets a call from Alf saying Dean hasn’t opened up and says he’ll be right there.
Outside the Diner, Justin tells Mason he shouldn’t have told Raffy about the trial. Mason thinks Tori and Justin are acting as though it’s not a legitimate treatment but Justin points out the specialist said no. Raffy and Ryder appear and Justin grumbles that she’s still mad. Mason thinks that’s fair and walks off. Raffy wants to talk to the doctor again or find a different doctor but Justin refuses. Raffy chats to Ryder about the trial. At the gym, Mason finds Willow in the office. She explains the drinks supplier called her in but she can’t get on the computer to process the invoice. Mason realises Robbo always handled it and Willow suspects they’re not getting paid. Mason says he’ll help her after he’s set up. Raffy and Ryder come in and ask about the trial. Mason says Tori and Justin are Raffy’s guardians so they can’t act without their permission. Ryder asks if they can buy the cannabis themselves if it’s legal but Mason says it’s not that simple. Ryder looks it up on his phone anyway.
Later, Mason and Willow try to get into the computer but Mason’s suggested passwords (“gymbank” and “jasmine”) just lock it. Ben arrives and asks if they’ve seen Dean, explaining that he didn’t turn up. Willow thinks he had a community service thing and says she’ll find him. In his caravan, Dean is bathing his feet. He puts the pills safely to one side, then gathers up his sheets. Outside, he runs into Willow who asks why he isn’t in work. Distracted, Dean tells her to wait in the car for him, then realises it isn’t where he always leaves it. Willow points out it’s a few paces in the other direction and finds the keys inside, wondering if he drove it drunk. Dean thinks someone had a joyride, but when he takes the keys from Willow, he has a flashback to being in the woods.
Raffy and Ryder finish a game of pool at the surf club. Raffy leaves to meet Maggie. Dean comes in and apologises to Ben, saying he’ll work late to make up for it. Ben leaves. Ryder comes over and, after initially trying to be vague and then to spell it out, asks Dean for help getting some marijuana for Raffy. Dean points out he’s on probation and isn’t going to risk going to jail. At the Diner, Maggie is telling Raffy that she has a support teacher arranged for her. Raffy isn’t happy about being treated differently. Maggie says the teacher will have to deal with another student first but will check in with Raffy afterwards. Maggie leaves as Ryder arrives and tells Raffy he might be able to stop her seizures.
At the surf club, Mason asks Ben if he’s seen John, explaining about the situation with the accounts and that he’s hoping to run supplies through the juice bar for now. Dean tells Ben that a custom fin has arrived. He opens the box and rummages through the foam packing, then has a flashback to digging in the woods. He announces he has to go and hurries off. Meanwhile, Raffy and Ryder arrive back at the Palmer house. After checking no-one else is home, Ryder explains his plan to buy some marijuana for her. Raffy reminds him Mason said medicinal cannabis isn’t the same. Ryder points out they looked it up and it comes from the same plant. Raffy worries about him getting into trouble. Ryder says he’ll only do it if she agrees.
Willow arrives at the surf club and asks Ben if Dean turned up. Ben says he did…but then left again. He is worried about Dean but also needs to rely on him. Willow assures him Dean won’t let him down. At that moment, Dean is driving out into the bush. He finds the spot where the body is buried and finds part of the wrapped body is now exposed. He vomits and then starts desperately shovelling the dirt back into the hole.
Dean parks his car near the surf club. Ryder accosts him again, saying he needs the marijuana for Raffy and Dean’s his only hope. Dean eventually agrees to make some calls. In return, he gives Ryder his car keys and says not to give them back to him until tomorrow. Ryder is worried to find he’ll have to meet Dean’s mate in person but agrees. Dean heads back to his van and finds Willow waiting for him. She wonders what’s going on, asking if the nightmares have returned. Dean says he got some pills to help him sleep and they made him confused. Willow leaves him to sleep, saying they’ll talk tomorrow. Dean wedges the door shut, takes some pills and lies down to sleep.
Ben arrives home and finds Maggie in a good mood after a phone call. She explains it wasn’t the department but the Coastal News; she spoke to the reporter who did the story on her and said the department won’t let her pay needed teachers. Ben worries the department will be angry. Maggie says she’s not there to make friends but to help students. Down by the pier, Ryder meets Dean’s River Boy mate. The River Boy asks for $20, since he rolled it as well, and warns him to stop looking around. He hands Ryder a bag with a joint in.
Next morning, Ben and Maggie look at the article on an iPad. It mentions Maggie saying that the department is more interested in the bottom line than what’s best for the students. Maggie notes the article is accurate and the department can’t sack her for telling the truth. At school, Ryder pulls Raffy into a classroom and produces the joint. Raffy isn’t comfortable with using it but Ryder says it can help her.
