Extended Summary
Willow runs into Ben outside the surf club. After chatting about how she’s feeling, she wonders where Dean is and Ben says he’s not been in for a few days: He assumed Dean was looking after her. Willow says she’s been at home. Ben says to get Dean to let him know when he’ll be back. Willow goes to Dean’s caravan and finds him asleep. She wakes him and he kisses her but doesn’t comment on it, saying he must have crashed out and didn’t set an alarm because he wasn’t expecting to fall asleep. Willow warns him not to lose his job. Dean asks if she’s going to stand and watch while he gets dressed and she awkwardly leaves.
Willow arrives back at the beach house, where Jasmine is on the phone to work, claiming she still has a virus. Willow asks if it’s work she’s avoiding or Tori: Jasmine says she can cope with work but not with seeing the woman that ruined her life. Willow notes her shoulder’s tender and Jasmine gets her some painkillers. Willow suggests Jasmine go out for breakfast with her and convinces her to have a shower. Back at his caravan, Dean searches for and eventually finds his car keys. He notices the bag of pills with only two left.
John and Jett arrive back at the Palmer house. Marilyn starts to reel off plans to go for a picnic before Jett interrupts to explain that he’s being deployed to Afghanistan. Marilyn protests there’s a war there. Jett says it’s not active and they’re just there for protection and training. Marilyn however insists he’s too young and not ready and she won’t allow it, before dashing out. Jett wants to go after her but John says he’ll talk to her later. Jett goes to the bait shop to talk to Alf, saying he didn’t expect Marilyn to be this bad. Alf notes he was a conscript so people felt they had to be supportive, but his parents were upset anyway. He says at least they have e-mail now when he just had letters which took weeks to arrive, advising Jett to keep in regular contact with Marilyn.
John and Marilyn have met up in a park. Marilyn worries that something is going to go wrong and insists that Jett can’t go. John says Jett will go whether they want him to or not and it’ll make things harder for him if they try and stand in his way. They catch up with Jett, who is helping Alf outside the surf club by scrubbing the bottom of a boat. Alf calls John into the office so Jett and Marilyn can talk. Marilyn apologises, saying she wasn’t expecting it to happen so soon. Jett tries to assure her he’ll be okay and Marilyn says she’s proud of him. Jett says one day he’ll be boring his kids with army stories.
Jasmine returns from her shower and Willow gives her a hot drink. They talk about Dean, and Willow having to go to wake him up. Willow says he’s blaming himself and Jasmine assumes she means about her being shot. Willow mentions him kissing her and pretending it didn’t happen. Jasmine suggests he might have still been dreaming and jokingly notes deep down he wants to kiss her. Willow goes to see Dean at the surf club; Ben is on the phone nearby. Willow asks about the kiss. Dean looks awkward when facing away from her but when he looks back he casually says he was still asleep. They chat about his nightmares going and Karen doing better, before Ben gets off the phone and Dean goes to help him.
Jasmine finds Willow in the office at the gym. Willow explains about checking on Dean and how she stayed behind to check on the rosters. Jasmine notices a photo of herself and Robbo on the wall. She says she can understand Robbo being angry with her and Tori but not him walking away from his friends and the gym. Willow suggests he’s got a lot to come back for. Jasmine considers asking Colby if he’s heard from him. In the main surf club area, Dean tells Ben he’s just sold two boards. He says he’s back now and can look after the place on his own, also offering to open up. Ben agrees, saying he’ll be in at lunch next day. Dean makes a call to someone asking for more pills.
Alf, John and Marilyn are gathered outside the bait shop to say goodbye to Jett. Alf wishes him luck and Marilyn gives him a hug. John drives off with Jett, leaving Alf to comfort and reassure Marilyn. Later, John comes home, saying Jett made his bus. Marilyn is looking up information on the current situation in Afghanistan, saying bombs can go off in the most secure areas. John doesn’t think it’s healthy to apply any negatives to Jett and offers to set up Skype on her phone but Marilyn says she’s not going to bury her head in the sand.
Dean sits in Salt, watching the door, until the courier appears and they briefly make a transaction. Willow appears and asks who that was, with Dean saying he sold him some boards. He offers her a drink. Later, Dean teases Willow for only being able to drink water. Willow suggests another drink but Dean says he has to be up early in the morning. They discuss the fact he’ll be back doing community service soon with his compassionate leave ended. Willow says he can talk to her about anything.
Dean goes back to his van and lies down on the bed but instantly has flashbacks to Ross threatening them and Willow being shot. He goes and takes some more pills, setting his alarm. Meanwhile, Jasmine and Willow meet up at the beach house. Jasmine admits to having just left Robbo another message. She says she’s worried something’s happened to him and thought she was worth more to him than this.
Dean drives out into the woods and gets out of the car, barefoot. He goes to the makeshift grave, uncovers it and starts digging with his hands.
