Extended Summary
Ben and Maggie are sitting on the veranda at the farm house with Maggie reflecting on the good company, wine and, best of all, school holidays! Inside, Ziggy gives Coco some chocolate which she says is a thank you and Coco considers a bribe. Ben and Maggie hear the raised voices and note that they’re at it again. Ziggy says that telling the truth will set Maggie back but Coco thinks their parents need to be told. Ben comes in and they both say it’s nothing, with Ziggy walking out. Ben tries to push further with Coco but she says she needs to study.
At the hospital, Tori gets off the phone and tells Mason that Elle is a registered donor but they still need consent from her family and the transplant counsellor will talk to them in the morning. Elle’s husband Brendan turns up and Tori goes to speak to him. Mason goes into Beth’s room; Alan and Jackie are sitting with her. Mason offers to get them something but Alan says they’re going to stretch their legs, leaving the youngsters alone. Beth asks Mason to stay with her.
Next morning, Coco is getting ready for a run while Ziggy is making breakfast for the family. The two girls soon start sniping however so Ben orders them outside, before ushering Maggie out as well. He shows them his plans for a gazebo and says they’re going to make it together as a family. Maggie is excused; Coco says it’s because she’s still recovering, Ben says it’s because she brings him pleasure instead of the pain the girls are giving him.
Tori finds Mason in Beth’s room and beckons him outside. She tells him Elle is a match for Beth and given her condition there’s a good chance she’d be selected. However, Brendan is refusing to give permission since Elle never discussed it with him. Tori says he’s in shock and hasn’t accepted his wife’s dead. Mason tries to get Tori to talk to Brendan but she refuses. Mason goes to Elle’s room when Brendan is by her side. He offers his condolences…and then tells him about Beth needing a heart. Brendan insists Elle is still alive and their conversation becomes increasingly heated with Brendan yelling at Mason to get out. Tori arrives and orders Mason out.
At the Diner, Maggie tells Leah about the gazebo building. Alf turns up to fix a toaster. Leah asks Maggie if Coco’s okay but doesn’t give a reason. After Maggie’s gone, Leah tells Alf she’s worried about Coco. Back at the farm, Ben is directing Ziggy and Coco in measuring things out and tells them they need to start digging holes. Maggie turns up with coffee and toasties but Coco only takes the coffee. Coco gets a text from Leah asking how she is and ignores it.
Tori tells Mason that his behaviour was unacceptable and that Brendan has filed a complaint against him. She points out Brendan is in pain too. Mason says Elle’s already dead and Beth’s still alive but Tori turns the argument around: What Mason is afraid of Brendan is already facing. Tori goes to see Brendan and says she understand his decision but they need to talk about turning off Elle’s life support. Brendan says she looks like she could wake up, although Tori assures him she couldn’t. Brendan asks her to leave them alone.
Mason finds Beth being taken away; Alan and Jackie tell him she has arrhythmia for the second time in the last 48 hours. Pandza is taking her for an echocardiogram. Mason goes back to Brendan and apologises for the way he behaved before. Brendan notes that Elle was late for dinner when the accident happened. Mason says he hasn’t known Beth long but it feels like they’ve known each other forever, a sentiment Brendan seems to sympathise with. Mason asks him to meet Beth.
Ziggy and Coco are digging under Ben and Maggie’s direction. Leah turns up and says she’s made them a moussaka. Ben makes a comment about the perfect woman which earns him a light slap from Maggie. Leah asks Coco to help her take it to the kitchen. Once they’re inside, Leah points out that Coco hasn’t called her. Coco says it’s because she’s been fine and hasn’t needed to. Ziggy listens from the hallway as Leah tries to convince Coco to talk to the school counsellor; Coco eventually agrees.
Mason and Brendan find Alan and Jackie in the corridor; they explain that Beth’s had her medication adjusted. Mason goes to see Beth while Brendan waits in the doorway. Mason starts to introduce them but finds Brendan has gone. Later, Brendan tells Tori he can’t turn Elle’s machines off. He tells her what Mason did and says he can see how much Mason and Beth mean to each other. Tori says they’ll take Elle up to ICU to give him more time. She finds Mason in the corridor and chastises him, saying he’s just made things harder. There’s a chance Brendan might still agree to the organ donation but they need to give him time.
Leah and Coco rejoin the others and Ben comments that the moussaka won’t last an hour. Maggie wonders what they were talking about and Coco says it was just school stuff. Leah leaves and Maggie goes to make a salad. Ziggy privately tells Coco that she knows she’s hiding something from Ben and Maggie and suggests it might not be in her best interests to tell them Ziggy’s secret. Later, Maggie comes out to call them in for lunch. Coco tries to stay out and carry on with the work but eventually consents to go in after she’s finishing shifting the dirt. Once the others have gone, Coco looks weak and dizzy. Finally, she faints and starts fitting…
