Extended Summary

The ironman contestants return to the surf club. Ben is still accusing Grant and Adam of setting him up while Adam accuses Dave of carving up Grant’s foot strap. Adam admits to changing the sign around so Grant and Ben disqualify themselves, leaving third place Tony as the winner.

At the Diner, Lance and Sally wonder if they can sneak Dag Dog into the dance to get Lily the frog to jump. Tom, Carly and Emma arrive. Carly wouldn’t be surprised if Dave had something to do with rigging the competition. They realise Emma knows something. She saw Grant’s surf ski and the foot strap was definitely cut.

Dave finds Ben at the beach and isn’t happy that Ben believed what Adam said about him. He tells Ben that nobody likes a loser. Ben had a chance to be a winner today. Ben tells him he’s screwed up and walks off. Grant catches up with Ben. They can’t understand what Adam and Dave did but at least they kept their self-respect.

Back at Summer Bay House, Lance and Sally are trying to get Lily to jump by barking at her. Lance doesn’t think they have a chance of winning the competition. Sally suggests taping Dag Dog barking.

At the Diner, Emma asks if Adam doesn’t feel sorry but he’s only sorry he didn’t keep quiet. Bobby hassles Emma over her entering the beauty contest; doesn’t she have a mind of her own? Dave is running a book on it to try and get his money back. Ben and Grant come in and Carly tells Bobby she no longer wants to go to the dance with Ben. She goes and asks Grant to take her, in front of Ben. Ben sulks over his shake so Grant offers him a beer back at the caravan. At the counter, Emma wishes they would just call off the beauty contest.

Sally and Lance tape Dag Dog barking.

At the Diner, Adam tells Dave he’ll tell him who the frontrunners in the beauty contest are for a piece of the action. He makes a point that Emma is his girl and Dave considers himself warned off. Bobby tells Emma she used to think Adam was a decent guy and asks why she bothers with him. Emma says they just sort of suit each other.

Grant gives Ben a beer at the caravan and offers to back off from Carly. Ben says she obviously doesn’t want to know him. Grant says Dave seems to mess up a lot. Ben feels he owes Dave for looking out for him when they were younger. They’ve been through everything together including the army. Grant asks if he’s going to re-enlist with Dave but Ben doesn’t know.

Sally and Lance are succeeding with the frog jumping when Carly arrives home and asks Tom why he lets Sally have that disgusting creature in the house. Tom says Lance is welcome any time! Carly has had her hair done for the dance and tells Tom that Grant is taking her as she’d just be another score on the board with Ben. She’s surprised when Tom says Ben’s OK.

Emma is still at the Diner and still regretting entering the competition. Bobby has an idea to make their point. In the evening, they are at the Stewart house and Bobby asks Alf if he’s OK with Emma entering the competition. Alf thinks it’s just a bit of fun. Under her breath, Bobby says he’s going to be right.

Tom is tying a bow in Sally’s hair when Grant arrives to pick up Carly. Carly does a spin and gets her hair caught on one of Sally’s fly traps!

At the caravan, Ben has a go at Dave for stuffing up his life. Dave asks if he’s going to throw their friendship out the window and Ben tells him he’s not sure about signing up again. Dave tries to persuade him to come to the beauty contest but Ben loses his temper.

Tom cuts the fly paper out of Carly’s hair. She doesn’t want to go to the dance any more but Grant is looking forward to it so she reluctantly goes to fix her hair. Grant tells Tom he knows he’s being used to make Ben jealous. He goes to Ben’s caravan and tells him that Carly overreacted to Dave upsetting her; if he sorts that out then she’s his. Ben asks what he has to do and Grant suggests it will be a joint effort.
