From a young age, Marilyn believed that her parents were dead. In 1991, she mentioned that her mother had passed away when she was little, and that her mother’s sister, Jean, had taken her in from the orphanage where she’d been living.

However, Jean later dropped a bombshell: Marilyn’s mother, Heather, hadn’t died at all—she had simply given Marilyn up because she “couldn’t be bothered” raising her. Determined to find the truth, Marilyn placed an ad in the papers, which was answered by a couple named Heather and Max Riley.

After the Rileys arrived and formed a bond with Marilyn, she received a letter from another couple, the Davidsons, claiming that they were her parents. Bobby convinced her to get in touch with Heather Davidson, and when she did, she explained she had a photo with her sister Jean as proof. She met with Heather and her husband George at a park and when she presented a photo of herself and Jean, Marilyn realised that the Davidsons were indeed her real parents.

Back at the Beach House, Heather explained that she and Jean never got on, and when she did try to see Marilyn, she wasn’t allowed. Her and George were touring in show business and she followed her career. Now out of the spotlight, they were working as fruit pickers. Marilyn and Bobby took them out for lunch and they got Marilyn to foot the bill, much to her disdain. The Davidsons also clashed with Pippa when they learned the nightly rate at the caravan park was $20. They decided to stay at Marilyn’s and walked in on her having dinner with Rileys. When the Davidsons revealed they were Marilyn’s actual mum and dad, Max and Heather left, deflated.

After sharing dinner with the Davidsons, Marilyn admitted to Bobby that they were revolting people. The couple set their caravan up outside the Beach House, and began using Marilyn to do their washing and shopping. After a conversation with Alf, Marilyn realised that in the short time she’d known them, the Rileys had been better parents to her in every way that mattered. When Heather and George planned to change their address to the Beach House for George’s invalid pension, and asked Marilyn for $50, she told them to leave, not wanting a relationship with them.

Heather commented to George that they should just shove off as Marilyn wasn’t worth it. After George delivered one parting shot towards his daughter, calling her an ungrateful little tart, the Davidsons left Summer Bay and were never heard of again.
