Extended Summary
Ash furiously yells down the phone, telling Mick he’s got a nerve ringing there. Mick repeatedly asks to speak to Irene but Ash tells him to never ring there again and Mick drops the receiver before walking away. Tori has heard Ash’s side of the conversation from the bedroom and gets dressed. She tries to talk to Ash but he says he needs to be alone; he grabs his clothes and storms out past Irene, who is coming home with Luc. Tori tells her about Mick phoning. Ash runs into VJ down the beach and tells him about Mick’s phone call; VJ shares Ash’s fury although Ash can’t offer him much information.
At the Diner, Scarlett and Caleb are having a coffee in what Caleb describes as awkward silence. Scarlett insists she’s trying but Caleb doesn’t think having coffee a couple of times is enough and suggests they have dinner together. This prompts another awkward silence and Scarlett checking it’s not a date. Caleb tells her to decide on the time and place and let him know. Meanwhile, Tori arrives home, on the phone to Ash. Justin and Raffy are on the sofa with Buddy and Raffy pushes Tori for details, asking if they’ve said the L word yet. Justin says they’re not having yoga classes together yet and Tori replies that they did yoga together that afternoon; Raffy makes it clear that the impromptu code word isn’t fooling anyone. She asks Justin why she hasn’t seen Scarlett in a while. Justin flounders a bit until Raffy puts him out of his misery by suggesting she’s busy.
That evening, Justin and Raffy are playing pool at the surf club. Justin manages to pot the white as Raffy comments on the number of times she’s beaten him. Scarlett arrives dressed up and admits she’s meeting Caleb. Raffy checks Scarlett knows she’s back home. Caleb also arrives and is introduced to Raffy. After Scarlett and Caleb have gone upstairs, Justin explains he is Scarlett’s husband. Up in Salt, Scarlett dithers over where to sit and Caleb suggests they sit on the balcony. Tori turns up and joins Ash and VJ. VJ is worried that Mick is after Luc again and Ash agrees. Tori suggests he may simply have wanted to talk to Irene but Ash thinks he must have an agenda.
Tori, Ash and VJ join Irene and Luc at the beach house where Irene admits she’s had quite a few calls from the psychiatric facility recently but has always refused to speak to Mick. She says she doesn’t want anything to do with him but Ash says that Mick isn’t just going to go away. The phone rings again and after a small amount of debate Irene answers it. It’s the psychiatric facility and Irene wants to hang up but Ash encourages her to find out what he wants. Mick tells her he wants her to help get him out. Irene refuses and hangs up. She tells the others Mick wants her to speak for him at a parole hearing, although she doesn’t know when it is. Ash and VJ are shocked but Tori says if Mick is considered rehabilitated his doctors will want him to move on. Irene insists she isn’t going to help; Ash argues with her as VJ goes to see to Luc.
Caleb compliments Scarlett on the success of her first case practising again, but wonders how she was paid. Scarlett admits she did it pro bono for a mate and Caleb fondly notes she’s always been a bleeding heart. Later, he reminisces about her bossing everyone around when she was newly qualified. Scarlett notes it’s getting late and Caleb says he wants her to have something that’s helped him. He produces a stuffed monkey that Scarlett identifies as Mushy. She hurries away. Justin is still playing Raffy but is distracted by Scarlett coming down and pots the white again. He tries to talk to Scarlett or walk her back to her van but she wants to be alone. Raffy tries to get him to follow her but he decides against it.
Ash is checking on Luc. Tori comes in and offers to stay, which Ash accepts. He wants to go and see Mick but Tori advises against it. Ash points out that Mick was let out after kidnapping Irene and promptly kidnapped Luc. Next morning, Irene is looking after Luc when Tori emerges. She asks where Ash went and Irene says he went surfing about ten minutes ago. Tori notices that his board is still out the back.
Ash sits in his car outside the psychiatric facility and goes inside when a guard opens the door. He tells the guard on the desk that he’s Damian Roberts and has a message for Mick from Irene. The guard notes he isn’t on the appointment list but agrees to see if Mick will see him. Irene and Tori arrive outside and see Ash’s car. Mick is shown into the room where Ash is waiting and quickly realises he isn’t Damian. Ash asks when his parole hearing is and Mick says it’s that day. Ash tells him to call it off, since there’ll be a world of pain waiting for him outside. Irene and Tori rush in; Mick hears Tori call Ash by name and realises who he is. He says he’s sorry about what he did to Billie and Ash pushes him against the wall. The guards quickly separate them and Mick is dragged out.
At the Diner, John tells Justin that the ignition on the surf club buggy has suddenly gone and asks him to take a look. Justin tries to get Raffy, who is working there, to help him out and admits he’s trying to take his mind off Scarlett. He says he’s giving her space but Raffy thinks he should talk to her. Down on the beach, Scarlett runs into Caleb and acknowledges what he was trying to do. Caleb produces Mr Mushy again and this time Scarlett accepts him. As Justin watches from a distance, Caleb tells Scarlett he’s missed her and hugs her (although she doesn’t seem to respond much).
Irene blasts Ash for his behaviour and tells Tori to make sure he gets home. After they’ve gone, she goes back inside to see Mick but is still incredulous that he thinks she should tell the hearing he should be let out. Mick protests that he’s her son and says he’s not the person he was before. He says he knows he can’t be a part of Luc’s life but is on medication, getting counselling and seeing a case worker. He says his parole hearing’s that afternoon and asks her to think about it.
