While most of the Home and Away fandom spent the summer months with baited breath, eagerly anticipating news of whether Heath would survive his ordeal at sea, a small subsection of fans spent the summer break wondering whether the new season of Home and Away would bring with it a brand new set of opening titles and theme tune, both of which have been missing in action since 2010.

Home and Away’ss famous theme tune hasn’st introduced the show since 2010, when the show’ss iconic credits were scrapped in favor of a 5 second title card. Every summer break since has seen devoted fans speculate as to whether the new season would see them return, and every season return to date has brought with it disappointment.

This year, in the run-up to January 21st we saw a series of beach-themed Home and Away promos that looked like maybe, just maybe, they featured shots from a new set of titles. The ‘sfresh mystery, fresh love, fresh faces and fresh beginnings’s promotions looked so sleek and polished that some fans speculated that they were too good to be scrapped once the season returned, and might be sneak peaks at new titles.

In addition, the show’ss official website revealed a new beach-themed look and adjusted logo the weekend before the season return – could this be in preparation for new titles? Fans didn’st have long to wait to find out.

So what did the first episode of the 2013 season, which aired on Monday, bring with it?

You guessed it, more disappointment!

A 5 second title card remained the only thing to welcome the show back after the recap. Admittedly a new 5 second title card – an orange logo and a surfboard-clad girl replacing the blue 3D logo floating above Palm Beach – but a 5 second title card none the less.

Ah well, there’ss always next year…
