Luke Jacobz "The Truth Behind Soap H&A Exit"

Luke Jacobz has dished to TV Week the real reason behind his Home and Away exit.

Former Home and Away actor Luke Jacobz has revealed producers made the decision to write his character Angelo out of the series because they felt they'd exhausted all storylines. Luke, 30, says he filmed his final scenes on the show earlier this year after being told Angelo's time in Summer Bay had reached an end.

"When they said the character was leaving I was upset, because I love working on the show," he says of the role he's portrayed for the past three years.

"It was really that the character had reached all the different goals that the show wanted him to, and it worked out really well with storylines having the River Boys come in so that Angelo could go."

Despite being disappointed to leave the cast and crew, including good friend Esther Anderson, who plays his former on-screen lover Charlie, Luke says he had expected to get the news eventually.

"Originally I was only supposed to be on the show for six months, so it wasn't a shock because I always knew at some stage my character would be going."

Now due to start his hosting responsibilities for the second season of The X Factor next month, Luke also cleared up reports that he was due to join the cast of Channel Seven's new colonial drama Wild Boys, saying he auditioned but missed out on a role.

"I was disappointed because I read the script and it sounded like so much fun and I'd heard whispers about different people that were going to be on the show and really wanted to work with them," he revealed.

"When you don't get a job you want, you do feel upset but then two months later you get a job that you absolutely love, so it's just the nature of the industry."

However, he remains hopeful that if the series strikes a chord with viewers, he might get a role in the future.

"It's going to be a great series and there could be characters down the track, so I might have to see if I can get myself in there!" he says.

Hmmmm.....the producers feeling like they had exhausted all possible storylines for Angelo only makes me firmly believe waht I've thought all along. And that is, without being in a relationship with Charlie, he relly had no other purpose on the show.

I feel sorry for Luke being given the heave ho by producers, but I can't say I'm too sorry to see the back of Angelo. I wish him all the best in the future though.

I feel bad for Luke too, cos I actually like him, he is a good actor. I just hate Angelo and I'm glad he is going. Though this last storyline with his restaurant has been one of his better ones IMO.

Same here Luke seems like a class act but was just saddled with a character that the majority of the fanbase never latched on to. It has long been speculated by members of this forum that a large portion of the fanbase was never heavily invested in "Charangelo" and it seems that in the end we were spot on.

Oh I posted a similar article to this in the spoiler forum comings and goings just because I throught that was the best place for it. They didn't really go far with his character I don't think, and I think with the River Boys around now is where Angelo could go with storylines with Darryl.

I think they could have taken such a different route with the character. When he first arrived he seemed like a real happy-go-lucky type of character, really bubbly in nature and always smiling. Then they ruined all of that initial impression by throwing such rubbish material at him. The times I've liked him best is when he's shown that fun and energetic side to the character that was evident in his first few weeks/months such as some of his chats with Alf and last year his very awesome scenes with Marilyn - I think he and Emily Symons had great on screen chemistry.

I reckon it would've been pretty coolto see Marilyn be in a relationship with Angelo. It's obvious she's not bthered by age considering she was married to Donald, and they could be so fun together.

When he first arrived he was a completely different character - he was kooky, a bit ditzy (or whatever the male version of ditzy is - over here we'd probably call it 'dopey') and, most of all, fun. That all changed when they had him kill Jack, and there could really never be any going back from that. It makes sense that such a big trauma would change a person, but I wish they'd tried to retain at least a small part of Angelo's original personality. Instead he became (in my opinion) far too intense and, as a result, quite dull to watch. Luke sounds like a lovely guy though and has clearly taken the whole thing very graciously. I wish him the best of luck in whatever he does after H&A.

It's weird. I've spent most of my time hating Angelo and wishing he'd leave and now that he is....I'm kind of sad. I've actually liked him this year. They never should have made him a cop and they never should have put him with Charlie and now that those two wrongs have been righted, he's been much better. If he'd been a kind of happy go lucky restauranteur from day one, and been either single or been allowed to be in a happy relationship with anyone other than Charlie, he'd probably have left as one of my favourites. Instead I remember him as a generally awful character who got partly redeemed in his last few months.
