Jo is torn. Eddie plays Salt. Bree and Remi share the perfect goodbye.
Extended Summary
On the balcony at Salt, Tane tells Mackenzie about Harper moving out and telling him to talk to her solicitor. Mackenzie thinks she’ll move in with Dana, especially with Bree moving out, but Tane isn’t sure, given they aren’t getting on at the moment. Down below, Sonny and Eddie are chatting about how nice everyone at Salt is. Mackenzie angrily calls down for them to get set up, since she doesn’t know where Remi is.
Where Remi is is in bed with Bree, asking her to tell him it wasn’t a mistake. Bree says it wasn’t, it was the perfect way to say goodbye. Remi is somewhat disappointed that she’s still leaving. He goes to get up but Bree asks him to give her another minute, saying this is how she wants to remember them. Remi takes her hands and they agree there’s no regrets.
Mackenzie continues to be frustrated that there’s no sign of Remi as Sonny and Eddie set up. She quietly reminds Tane she offered to pull the gig to get rid of his rival. Tane gets a text saying Cash is helping Harper move. Remi turns up and Mackenzie starts having a go at him for not being there. Remi reminds her she gave him the runaround. Sonny asks where he was and Remi says he doesn’t have to tell him everything. Eddie asks Mackenzie to reserve a table for Jo and Lacey. She gives Tane an apologetic look.
At the beach house, Jo complains about Lacey taking a long time to get ready. Lacey says they were always late to Eddie’s gigs anyway. Jo says that’s because Lacey was under eighteen and it was easier to sneak her in after they started. David, at the counter in uniform, is shocked by this. They tell him Kristina knew and they were saving him having to choose between his daughters and his integrity.
Eden comes to the Diner flat to say goodbye to Bree. Bree suggests she come to Salt and says she knows Remi’s going to be there. Eden is surprised before going on to say that she’s in awe of Bree going out to do something important. At Salt, Eddie shows Sonny his set list. Sonny has had some requests to sing “My Trombone is Haunted”. Eddie explains he sings it in class. He records a brief message for online. Tane texts Harper to kiss Archie good night for him. Remi tells Sonny to introduce Eddie. He breaks off as Bree comes in, before Mackenzie gives her a glass of champagne and leads her from outside. Sonny realises from the lingering look that they hooked up and worries it will end badly. Remi assures him it’s fine.
Alf arrives at the Diner and notices Eden is also sat at a table on her own. She says Cash is working and she’s avoiding the surf club because she’s off music at the moment. She tells Alf and Marilyn that she’s looking for something to occupy her time. Alf says the surf club are always looking for volunteers and he volunteers with the SES, noting it’s about giving back to the community.
At Salt, Remi tells Sonny that he knows what happened with Bree was just goodbye. Mackenzie tells Bree that Levi’s been held up at work. Sonny introduces Eddie, who begins his set. Tane goes to leave but changes his mind when Lacey and Jo come in.
Eden goes home and looks up “volunteering in your community” on her phone. At the police station, David is on the phone to someone enquiring when Craig Wendell’s sentencing will be. Eden turns up and David tells her Cash is out. Eden says she’s there to do something for him, or rather the police, asking if he’s heard of the Volunteer in Police Programme. David says they ran it out of his last station but not here. Eden says she wants to be the first volunteer.
Eddie announces that his next song, Sliding Doors, is one he’s never performed before but it feels right. He looks at Jo as he says it and starts singing. Bree quietly notes to Remi that he’s good. Lacey leaves Jo to get a drink. Tane quietly tells Mackenzie he’s going to follow her advice. He goes and sits with Jo, asking her to come home with him.
Jo walks away from the surf club with Tane following. She asks how he could proposition her in front of her ex. Tane asks what it matters if he is her ex. Jo says now’s not the right time. Tane accepts it and walks away. Lacey comes out, saying she came back from the bar and found Jo gone. She is sceptical about Tane and Jo both needing air at the same time and wonders what’s going on. Jo admits she doesn’t know what she wants.
David asks Eden if she’s sure about this. Eden admits she’s only just heard about it but says it’s what she wants to do and knows it involves helping out with community programmes and supporting victims and witnesses. She says she grew up in a funeral home and is used to seeing people at their worst, which she acknowledges made for some awkward play dates. David says there’s a stringent application procedure but he’s willing to look into it.
Next morning, Tane is about to start a class near the beach when Jo approaches wanting to talk. Tane sends the class on a run to the beach. Jo wants to forget about last night but Tane doesn’t want her to forget, saying he wants her to know how he feels and that he wants her. Eddie watches from a few yards away.
Bree and Sonny are walking towards where her lift is. Bree gets a text saying Dana’s been held up at the hospital. She gives Sonny a key to hand over to Dana, saying she’s signed her car over to her. Sonny says to expect a happy voicemail. Remi comes running up and tells Bree not to forget him. She hugs him and says he changed her life. As she is driven away, Sonny again asks Remi if he’s fine and he says he will be.
Outside the surf club, Lacey tells David that the crowd loved Eddie and he sung a new song that was clearly about Jo. David thinks they should invite Eddie to a family barbecue. Lacey says to at least invite other people so it’s not so obvious he’s matchmaking. David runs into Eden nearby and says headquarters have sent him the paperwork to apply for the programme. Eden admits she hasn’t told Cash yet but thinks he’ll love it.
Jo finds Eddie waiting outside the house. He says he saw her with her personal trainer earlier and that he was with her at the gig, and she left with him and didn’t come back. He asks what’s going on.
