David hosts a barbecue. Will Jo make a choice? Cash is against Eden’s plans.

Extended Summary

Outside the surf club, Sonny is recording a video promoting Eddie. He runs into Lacey and tries to get her to give a soundbite about the gig. She initially gives a brief but positive one, but after a bit more prompting she gives an enthusiastic assessment of the new song. John asks why he’s not interviewing him, saying he does have his fingers on the pulse. Lacey invites them both to the barbecue.

At the Diner, Justin and Leah chat to Marilyn about the visit to the grave. Leah says it was hard but she’s glad she went. David turns up and invites them all to the barbecue. Justin says he’s got a counselling session but will see Leah there afterwards. Leah isn’t sure about going and Marilyn has to work. David gets a text from Lacey saying she’s invited John and Sonny. Leah suddenly decides to go. Marilyn looks worried but doesn’t say anything when invited.

Jo reminds Eddie she said Tane was a friend. When he pushes, she says they went on a couple of dates but claims it was just a fling and it’s over. Eddie makes to go but David turns up, saying they’re having a barbie and telling Eddie to clean the barbie and Jo to do salads. After he’s gone, Eddie tells Jo to figure out what she wants.

Later, Lacey turns up and Jo says David’s barbecue idea is dumb, before explaining Eddie knows about Tane and told her to make a choice, and Tane has as well. They muse that she has history with Eddie and David loves him. Jo says she has a connection with Tane. Lacey says he has a complicated situation with his ex and a baby, before saying she can either play it safe and go back to something familiar or take a risk and try something new.

Eden arrives home and tells Cash she’s been looking into volunteering and has applied to be part of the Volunteers in Policing program. Cash says Yabbie Creek’s not set up for it and responds to her saying she’ll be the first with a blunt “No”. Later, Eden is bewildered at Cash’s attitude. Cash says the programme only works in the context of a big city station and it’s too risky for her to do it at theirs. Unimpressed, Eden says it’s her decision and walks out.

Jo and Lacey join David and Eddie outside the beach house. David quietly tells Eddie it’s good that Jo has an old friend around. Sonny turns up and pretends to recognise Eddie as a celebrity. Leah and John also arrive. Leah has brought a cake. Sonny is surprised to see her there and quickly uses an excuse to get away.

Eden comes home and tells Cash she thought that he’d be pleased that they’re working together and David thought it was a good idea. Cash says that in the city she’d have a degree of anonymity but people will work out she’s his wife and she’ll have a target on her. He asks her to think about it. She says she’ll have time because David hasn’t put in the paperwork yet, and goes to get ready for work.

Leah asks to talk to Sonny privately. He wonders where Justin is before saying he has to get a soundbite from Jo. Eddie asks Lacey how working at the board shop is going and John claims he got her the job. Sonny asks Jo her opinion of Eddie but she flounders and then goes inside. David goes after her and Leah convinces Sonny to go for a walk.

Inside, David finds Jo in her bedroom. Jo says she doesn’t know how to react to Eddie suddenly appearing again, adding that they broke up for a reason and it might have fallen apart even without the accident. David tells her that Eddie asked her and Kristina for permission to ask her to marry him and Kristina insisted on going shopping that day because she wanted Jo to have a new dress for the big moment.

Leah and Sonny go for a walk along the beach. Leah tells him about going to the cemetery and finding a photo of Theo’s guitar at the studio at the grave, guessing Sonny put it there. Sonny says he just wanted Theo to know. Leah says everyone else is moving on but thinks Sonny’s hurting as much as her. Sonny says he has a supportive partner and so does she, and she should be leaning on him. He walks away.

Outside the beach house, John talks to Lacey and Eddie about rock and roll bands. David joins them as Justin arrives. Leah immediately tells him she’s tired and wants to go. John decides to go with them and David and Lacey start clearing up. Jo comes out and Eddie says he should go too. Jo stops him and kisses him.

Justin is surprised that Leah wants to go to Salt for a drink despite saying she was tired. Justin briefly chats to Eden before telling Leah he hoped she’d have a good time at the barbecue. Leah says Sonny was there and Justin was right about him leaving the photo. She says he shut her down and left but thinks he needs support.

Sonny is back at the flat, pondering whether to call Leah. Lacey arrives and finds it a bit weird being back there. Sonny says she’s welcome any time and Dana’s out and Bree’s left. Lacey didn’t know Bree was going overseas. She says Sonny went for a walk with Leah and then disappeared. Sonny says Leah’s hurting. They note they’re both missing Theo and had some good times there.

Cash comes into Salt. Eden says she’s thought about what he said and knows volunteering is possibly dangerous and Cash is worried about losing her. However, she says David was supportive and she can’t not do something because of what might happen. She says she thinks she can help and David said she’d be good at it, so she’ll do it whether he likes it or not.

At the Diner, Marilyn checks Leah is fine with closing up. Nearby, Justin is talking to Alf about how the barbecue seems to have set Leah back and how it might have been different if Sonny hadn’t been there. Marilyn tells him that’s why she went, explaining how she turned David down until she heard Sonny was going to be there.

David is still clearing up when Cash turns up. David says he’s off the clock. Cash tells him that he has to stop Eden being involved in the volunteer programme.
