Remi’s running out of friends. David hits another speedbump. Roo gives up on Adrian.
Extended Summary
David runs into Theo and Lacey outside the surf club. They briefly chat but it’s clear Lacey wants to cut things short, saying she has to get to work. Cash comes along and he and David make rather stilted conversation. David says any conversation with Lacey that doesn’t end with her shouting at him is progress, while Cash explains Eden is having trouble with her housemate and best friend. David offers to buy him a coffee. Meanwhile, Roo lets herself into Adrian’s workshop and continues to try to convince him to come back with her and that he’s enough for Cohen. Adrian says she never wanted him there and this is her chance to adopt Cohen. He ends up telling her to leave or he’ll call the police.
At the surf club, Theo tries to talk up David to Lacey, saying his new place is great. Lacey suggests Theo moves in and says it’s a shame Jo lives there and asks what loser lives with their dad in their 20s. Theo says the same kind that lives with their aunt and uncle and Lacey apologises. Alf comes past and Cohen asks him when Roo’s getting back. Alf again tries to tell him that she might not have Adrian with her and might be back late but it doesn’t seem to fully go in. Meanwhile, Adrian escorts Roo back to her car. She says that he needs to be sure because Cohen already loves him. Adrian tells Roo to look after him and Roo says she will. Adrian walks away.
Marilyn serves Cash and David at the Diner. David has heard that Eden’s friend is the guy Cash brought in for DUI. Cash calls it the joys of small-town policing and explains Remi’s been through a bad break-up. He agrees it’s no excuse but says he’s not normally like this. David suggests Eden’s better off without him. Cash says he’s like family and it would be a shame to lose that. Cohen comes in and says Roo’s getting his dad, suggesting they all play football when he’s back, before asking Marilyn for a muffin and another one for Adrian. Cash quietly asks if he knows and David says it’s a long story.
Eden leaves a phone message for Cash. Remi comes in and reminds Eden that he stood by her when Cash dumped her and offered to move away with her. Eden says she wasn’t self-destructing. Remi says she slept with her sister’s counsellor and Eden says that’s not against the law and Remi is spiralling. Remi ends up walking out, pushing past Cash.
Lacey tells Theo she’s got a text from David inviting her to dinner and isn’t impressed. Theo says he’s the only dad he’s got but Lacey says Theo’s already given the family spiel. Remi comes in and says he wants a drink. Lacey quickly agrees to join him. Theo looks worried. Soon after, up in Salt, Lacey realises Remi isn’t slowing down. She tells Theo she’s texting David that she’s busy helping a friend. Theo notes he didn’t expect her to make any excuse at all. Remi rejoins them and drinks a toast to being dumped by his girlfriend and best friend, explaining that Eden has kicked him out or is leaving herself. Theo asks Lacey to get a bowl of chips, before asking Remi if there’s a chance that it’s his fault and saying it would be sad if things ended between him and Eden, which Remi is forced to agree with. Theo asks what the plan is, because this one isn’t working.
At the police station, David considers sending Lacey a text to check in, then changes his mind. Roo arrives and asks to speak to him. She thanks him for the address, saying she didn’t tell Adrian where she got it from and he didn’t ask, but he wouldn’t listen. She agrees he’s scared but says it doesn’t help Cohen. David wonders if she came here to avoid talking to Cohen, saying no-one would blame her. They both agree you shouldn’t give up.
Cash and Eden are in bed. Eden hears Remi coming home and insists on speaking to him now. Remi says he’s mostly sober and apologises for all of it. They both agree that they don’t want the other to move out. Eden heads back to bed and Remi asks Cash to stay. He apologises to him too; Cash says he expected to be included with Eden’s apology. Remi says he’s seen Cash go through stuff and wonders how he came back from it. Cash says he decided he wanted his life to be different.
Cohen is clearing the table and Alf and Marilyn quietly comment on the fact he didn’t eat much. Roo arrives back and Cohen sees Adrian isn’t with her. Roo suggests he needs more time but Cohen thinks Adrian doesn’t want him and runs off to his room. Next morning, Roo is chatting to Marilyn and David at the coffee cart. Alf and Cohen are nearby, getting ready for a fishing trip. Suddenly, Adrian appears. Cohen runs over and hugs him. Alf and Roo look on with mixed emotions, but when Marilyn says Roo did this, Roo smiles.
Eden wakes up alone. She finds a note on the kitchen counter, reads it and grins. Near the beach, Cash is going for a run…with Remi puffing and panting behind him. Remi asks for a moment and throws up in the nearby bushes. Theo and Lacey approach and are confused because they thought Remi stopped drinking. Cash explains it’s because of the run. Remi agrees to try the 5Ks more than Cash suggested and indicates he may have outrun a cop in the past.
Alf, Marilyn and Roo watch on as Adrian and Cohen throw a ball about. Adrian approaches Roo and thanks her for not letting him walk away, saying Cohen is his priority now and he’s going to stay at the motel and hang around for a bit. Cohen suggests the others join in the game of footy, even convincing Marilyn to join in. At the Diner flat, Theo asks Lacey what she’s going to do with the key, saying she could go to David’s. Lacey points out that David has just arrived at hers. Theo goes to get them coffee. David asks Lacey how long she’s going to keep this going.
Theo is at the Diner as Alf and Marilyn arrive back, saying he’s not in a rush. Alf and Marilyn discuss that Roo, Adrian and Cohen are walking to the lighthouse. Marilyn gets a text from John inviting her to a dinner at Salt. Alf gets a similar invitation and wonders why he’d want to have dinner with John. Upstairs, David suggests to Lacey that they spend more time together, suggesting dinner or coffee and hanging out like a normal family. Lacey says they’re not a normal family; this isn’t the start of some great reunion and he needs to give up. David takes a coffee from Theo as he leaves. Theo thinks Lacey would be upset if David gave up. Lacey says she’d be relieved. Theo tells her to be careful what she wishes for.
