Extended Summary

Irene is cradling Archie, who Harper and Tane have just brought home. Harper notes he was crying all the way in the car. Tane admits it was the most nerve-wracking drive of his life and Harper comments that he was going so slowly they’d have been better off walking. She takes Archie off for a feed while Tane puts the kettle on.

At the hospital, Eden chides Justin for shoving a hospital patient. Justin protests that he barely touched him. Dana brings Sonny past on the way to his scan and Bree says he’s been badly beaten up. Remi hopes Justin will stop blaming him for everything but Justin says he still blames Sonny for dragging Theo into this.

Gage tells Cash that Theo just had an accident but Cash says he was tied up and didn’t lower the car onto himself, so if he doesn’t make it, it’ll be a murder investigation. Gage says it’d be a shame if that happened. Cash asks if he knew Theo and Lacey were sleeping together, calling it a motive. Gage says he and Lacey have an open relationship and suggests Cash and Eden try it. He suggests they’re done and Cash agrees he can go before calling “Edmund” in.

Irene tells Tane that she’s glad he and Harper have sorted things out and thinks Harper will be glad of the support. Tane takes a cup of tea in for Harper and says he’ll sleep on the couch so he can be there to help with Archie during the night. Harper seems taken aback by this but calls it thoughtful. Irene joins them; Tane tells her he’ll be staying and she goes to sort out some bedding. Harper doesn’t look too happy.

Theo is back with Justin and Leah, still unconscious. Bree joins them and says Levi’s been called away to another emergency. The surgery was a success but there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again: Even if he recovers consciousness now, there’s still a risk of complications. Meanwhile, Cash brings Lacey in for a talk and asks her what happened to Theo. Lacey says no-one saw anything. Cash thinks she’s scared to talk and says they can protect her. Lacey doesn’t believe him. Cash doesn’t believe she and Gage had an arrangement, thinking he’s not the type to share. He asks her what she’ll do if Theo doesn’t make it. Lacey walks out and she, Gage and Spanner leave the station.

Bree tells Eden and Remi that Sonny has bleeding from his left kidney but they’re hoping it’ll resolve itself. She convinces them to go home. They see Dana arrive with Cash, who apologises to Eden for not answering her calls. Dana says she’s there to make sure Cash doesn’t tire Sonny out. Cash asks Sonny to identify his attackers from photos. Sonny flips through them and identifies Spanner but points out Gage is the one calling the shots. Meanwhile, Tane is asleep when he hears Archie crying and goes through. Harper is breast feeding him and says he didn’t need to get up. Tane says to call him when she’s through and he’ll settle Archie but Harper says she’s got it.

Next morning, Cash and Eden chat outside the surf club. Cash doesn’t have anything to tie Gage to the attack on Theo and isn’t convinced Spanner will talk. He’s waiting on an arrest warrant. Eden hopes Theo will be okay. At the hospital, Bree finds Leah and Justin have spent a sleepless night by Theo’s side. They say Levi told them much the same as she did. Bree says there’s no change  She notes the longer Theo is unconscious, the more likely he’ll end up on a ventilator. After she’s gone, Leah says this could have been avoided: Theo told her he was seeing a girl who was in a relationship and she just told him to be careful. Justin says Theo told him too and he told him to talk to her and find out their options, but they’d have handled it differently if they knew. Leah says it still could have been avoided. Justin insists Sonny’s to blame.

Gage arrives at the River Boy compound and wonders where Lacey is. Spanner just says he was there earlier. Cash arrives with another officer and says he’s there to arrest Edmund “Spanner” Smith for the assault on Sonny. Gage says to not say anything and he’ll arrange a lawyer. Cash wonders where Lacey is and Gage sullenly says he doesn’t keep her on a leash.

In fact, Lacey is at the hospital. Dana tells Sonny he’ll be moved to a ward soon, although he’d rather be discharged. Dana heads off home and Sonny notices Lacey wandering around lost. She says she came to check on Theo. Sonny says he’s in intensive care and isn’t allowed visitors. He asks her to tell the police what happened. Lacey says it was a mistake to come here and Gage would kill her. Sonny says she was always playing a dangerous game and she owes it to Theo to make Gage pay.

Irene is cradling Archie and tries to hand him to Tane but Harper says it’s nap time. Dana turns up and fusses over Archie, saying it’s been a hard night. Harper offers her a cuddle (which Tane obviously picks up on) but she says she has to go and sleep. Tane offers to make something to eat but Harper says she’ll lie down while she has the chance. Tane tells Irene he’s going to check on the gym.

Bree tells Leah and Justin she’s heading home but will come back in if anything changes. She briefly chats to Remi outside. Justin comes out and tells Remi he’s not welcome there, insisting Theo wouldn’t be in that bed if not for Sonny. Remi agrees: He’d still be under the car. He says Sonny saved Theo’s life so Justin can drop the attitude. Elsewhere, Cash checks in on Sonny and Eden.An orderly arrives to take Sonny away. Cash is worried about Lacey. Eden tells him about her being at the hospital.

Lacey arrives at the River Boy compound and finds Gage on the phone to someone, annoyed that Spanner isn’t getting bail. He tells Lacey she should have been there. Lacey says it’s her fault but suggests they take a break until things settle down. Gage tells her that her place is there where he can keep an eye on her. Cash drives past and sees them together. Meanwhile, Irene runs into Tane outside the surf club. He says it was a good thing he checked on the gym but Irene can tell he’s bothered. Tane says he wants to help but Harper won’t let him.

Lacey arrives at the police station and Cash comes out to see her. She asks if he meant it when he said he could protect her.
