Extended Summary

Roo and Eliza are walking through a park area. Roo refers to Eliza starting the youth programme next day. Eliza isn’t keen. Roo tells her that since she’s being home-schooled, she has to take part in outdoor activities elsewhere. She ultimately offers her an extra hour’s screen time in exchange for taking part in the programme. Eliza dryly comments on trusting her to make the right choice.

At the surf club, Alf remarks that he hasn’t seen Tane in a while. Tane explains that he’s been visiting Harper in the city, and training her replacement is taking longer than expected. Roo and Eliza turn up and Tane shows them a baby scan photo, which Eliza stares at in a detached manner. Roo gives him the paperwork. Eliza momentarily seems interested in the programme but claims it’s just because of the screen time.

At the Diner, Marilyn is looking worriedly at her purse as Justin arrives. She tells him and Alf that money’s missing again and she went to the bank yesterday. She says it’s the second time. Alf realises she’s saying it’s happened since Eliza moved in. Justin advises her not to throw accusations about without proof. At the garage, Theo and Sonny are working on the car. Theo tells him Remi had a terrible motorbike accident and nearly died, so deserves happiness. Sonny accepts he should cut him some slack. He manages to start the engine and they decide to go celebrate.

At Salt, Bree comments to Remi that it feels more real than a year ago and wishes her dad had met Remi. Theo and Sonny come in; Sonny goes to a table while Theo gets the drinks. Bree encourages Remi to go and talk to him. Remi apologises for bailing on Sonny and explains about the anniversary. Sonny tells him to do what he needs to do.

At the Diner, Marilyn tries to point out she’s served Eliza her meal and just gets a glare in response. Roo explains to her and Alf about giving her extra screen time. She goes over to Eliza, who says she’s looking at buying something to wear for the workout. Roo says gym gear can be expensive but Eliza says she has her own money. Marilyn listens and takes note.

Sonny greets Remi and Bree as they arrive back at the Lyrik house. Remi goes to have a shower. Sonny tells Bree he’s sorry to hear about her dad and says he lost his grandma a few years ago, describing her as a real larrikin. He says he thinks about her cracking jokes and laughing and it makes him grateful for the good times. Bree gets a bit teary and Sonny hugs her.

Next morning, Roo is walking Eliza to the park area where the youth class are meeting. Eliza says her doubts yesterday must have been nerves. One of the other teens, Scott, introduces himself to her and they make brief small talk. Roo chats to Tane and asks if she can stay but Tane says the youngsters don’t want someone keeping an eye on them which she accepts.

Sonny tells Remi a story about drinking a litre of tequila because he wasn’t allowed to bring it on a plane. He says he’s helping out at the garage again. Remi jokes to him and a newly arrived Bree that Theo’s his replacement. Sonny gets a text from Theo saying he’s having to work at the caravan park and decides to head there. Bree thanks him for last night.

Inside the surf club, Scott notes he’s there because he went joyriding in his uncle’s car and crashed it. Eliza asks if anyone was hurt and he says no. Tane calls them together and gives a speech about how much they can get out of it. Scott asks about martial arts and Eliza asks if she can help carry the things out. Behind Tane’s back, she removes the baby scan photo from his bag.

At the caravan park, Alf details Theo to clean the vans that are being moved into, the shed and the shower block. Sonny turns up and announces he’ll be helping. Theo does the introductions and Sonny explains the alternative was staying with Remi and Bree, referring to Theo as his new best mate. He is thrown that they’re cleaning more than one caravan.

Tane is getting the teens to run in a circle. Scott stops to tie his shoelace so Eliza can catch up with him and says he saw her take something from Tane’s bag and won’t say anything if she puts it back. Tane sees them talking and tells them to get going. Eliza tells Scott to shut his mouth.

Justin turns up at the Diner and comments to Marilyn on Theo having the day off and helping at the caravan park. Marilyn is increasingly suspicious about Eliza being the one who took the money and thinks she needs to talk to Roo. Justin says now’s her chance as Roo appears, chatting about dropping Eliza off, and saying she’s meeting Alf there. Justin comments to Marilyn that you have to pick your moments and Marilyn says that wasn’t it.

Back at the Lyrik house, Remi asks Bree what happened with Sonny last night. Bree explains he gave her some healthy ideas on how to cope with losing someone. Remi realises he was talking about his grandma. He suggests he and Bree take a ride down the coast, so she can visit her dad’s grave and he can finally meet her mum. Bree readily agrees.

Theo and Sonny arrive at the garage to work on the car. Theo offers Sonny half the money from the work they did but Sonny says he has no need for it. Justin comes over and Theo explains about the money while Sonny wonders how fast the car will go. At the Diner, Roo tells Alf she’s working out a lesson plan for Eliza. She opens up her laptop and she, Alf and Marilyn see the pictures of surgical instruments Eliza was looking at. She seems a bit unnerved but says that, even though some of it’s graphic, it’s good that Eliza’s interested in something.

Tane is leading the class in self-defence moves, with Eliza partnering Scott. He tries to get her to return what she took, saying Tane will realise it’s gone and blame the whole class and he’s not going to get into trouble for her. Eliza dares him to tell Tane. Scott makes a move towards him and Eliza punches him in the face. Tane goes to help him while Eliza just stares at him, expressionless.

Alf is on the phone to Martha and goes outside to take the call. Marilyn approaches Roo, telling her about the money going missing and how she suspects Eliza, explaining how the first time was just after Eliza arrived and the second time was last night when Eliza said she had money. Roo repeats what Eliza said about the money coming from her last foster family. Marilyn asks if the medical images are healthy. Roo calls Eliza a troubled young woman and accuses Marilyn of being judgemental.

Tane has taken Scott, whose nose is still bleeding, inside and dismisses the class. Eliza remains watching, however. Tane tells her to get some water but she ignores him so he goes to get it himself. Eliza tells Scott that if he says anything she’ll give him more than a bloodied nose. Tane watches the conversation, looking concerned.
