Sonny makes a shocking admission to Theo. Remi comforts Bree on a sad day. John and Irene attempt a reconciliation.
Extended Summary
Bree is on the beach, looking pensive. Not too far away, Sonny approaches Remi and Theo and tells them that he’s booked out an arcade and, among other things, wants to recreate the time he and Remi spent eight hours playing laser tag which Remi claims he won. Theo says he has to go to work, while Remi has made plans with Bree. Sonny tries to get him to cancel but Remi refuses and goes over to Bree.
At Salt, Kirby asks Rose how her cold feet are. Rose is getting rather nervous about the idea of being a detective. Justin comes in and Kirby tells him that Rose is moving to the city to become a detective. Justin wonders if she’s got a promotion and Rose explains she has a course that she needs to pass. Justin congratulates her on following her dreams. Kirby tells Rose she needs to tell people.
John tells Irene he doesn’t want to upset her and doesn’t consider her a burden, offering to go if she wants. Irene is happy for him to do so but John says friends don’t disappear when there’s a problem and asks to talk it out. Meanwhile, Remi and Bree arrive at Salt. Kirby immediately insists Bree join her and Rose, and Remi says he’ll meet her in a bit. Rose nervously says they need to sort out what they do with their place when she leaves for the city. She is surprised when Bree calmly says that she’ll take over the lease and can afford the rent on her own.
Justin arrives at the garage and notes Theo was up all night. Theo says the cracked head, head gasket and radiator have been replaced, which he admits cost him around $2000. He asks for more overtime. Justin is concerned about how much work Theo is doing and says he doesn’t have anything extra for him. Meanwhile, Bree arrives at the Lyrik house and is greeted by Sonny, who says Remi is in the shower. He asks her to cancel her plans with Remi so he can join him at laser tag. Bree says she wouldn’t stop Remi doing that if he wanted to. Remi enters and says he doesn’t, telling Sonny he won’t change his plans.
John finds Irene’s schedule and says he could help out with a power walk or gardening. Leah arrives and is surprised to see John there. John asks Irene to be part of it and Leah suggests he could join them for tea and talk. Irene isn’t happy but gives in. Meanwhile, Bree suggests Remi could have gone with Sonny but Remi thinks it would do him good to be told no. He takes Bree down the beach where he has a rather high class picnic with champagne on ice and a table and sun shade set up for them.
Sonny turns up at the garage and makes another attempt to get Theo to come to laser tag with him. Theo still insists he has to work, saying it helps him afford the loan repayments. Justin appears and Sonny tries to get him to let Theo go. Theo says that if he wasn’t working then he’d be there anyway working on his car. He shows it off to Sonny who is impressed.
Leah is explaining to John about how the tea and talk is replacing the group therapy sessions Irene used to have. Irene says they’d talk about something bugging them or if they’re having a good day. Leah tries to kick off by talking about how she’s trying to not worry about Theo. While she and John talk it over, Irene sits in silence, looking increasingly anxious.
Kirby and Rose arrive at the Diner, with Rose having sorted out packing boxes. She admits Kirby has actually managed to get her excited and suggests she could come to the city with her and do a course in sound engineering. Kirby says she’s still hoping for her big break but there is one more item on their list: A last night out in Yabbie Creek. Meanwhile, Irene tries to put an end to their session but John says she hasn’t spoken yet and tries to ask her what being out of rehab is like. Irene snaps and says every time she looks at John it’s a reminder of the lies, the booze and falling down the stairs, and he’s making it worse.
While Justin and Theo are trying to work, Sonny is showing them photos of his dad’s classic car collection, including a 63 Pontiac Catalina and the 1972 Plymouth Barracuda that he learned to drive in. He says they kept them in a warehouse and he was bummed that they had to sell them. He says his goodbyes and Justin comments that he likes him.
Irene is in the bathroom collecting herself. John tells Leah that he’ll stick around to say goodbye. Irene emerges and she and John exchange apologies. John says he’s going to go and see Jett for a couple of weeks, who he says has a bad flu, and will see her when he gets back. Irene decides to go upstairs to lie down. John admits to Leah that Jett is fine and it was just an excuse to get out of town for a while rather than upset Irene.
Sonny runs into Rose at the surf club and complains that Remi is being boring with his girlfriend. Rose turns up, similarly dressed up as Kirby for a night out. Sonny manages to get an introduction to her and complains about the good ones getting away. Kirby says she’ll still be there and Sonny tells her not to be too proud of that, saying Summer Bay is too small for her. Rose and Kirby leave, making it clear that it’s a ladies’ night.
Down on the beach, Bree and Remi are drinking the champagne. Remi admits that he knows it’s the anniversary of her father’s death and wasn’t sure if she wanted to do anything so decided to arrange something low-key. Bree says she didn’t know but this was exactly what she needed. They kiss, which is seen from a distance by a grumpy-looking Sonny. Bree and Remi head home and Remi suggests dinner at Salt.
Sonny turns up at the garage where Justin is just leaving. Sonny says that everything seems to go right for Remi, who he thinks leads a charmed life. Theo tries to argue that he’s seen Remi have his fair share of dramas but Sonny says there’s always a bucket full of money and a beautiful woman to catch him.
