Eliza lashes out. Levi’s got big news for Mackenzie. Mali’s workload is weighing him down.
Extended Summary
Mali and Abigail are in bed in his caravan. Abigail says it looks like being the best day and Mali points out the day is half-done. He starts getting dressed to head into work. Abigail both tries to get him to have lunch and tries to get him to come back to bed, saying she doesn’t have to be in work for an hour. Mali says he has to sort out back orders and doesn’t look entirely happy as he leaves.
At the farm house, Mackenzie comments to Levi that with Abigail helping Eden they’ll have more time together. Levi agrees that he doesn’t need to be in work either but says he has to pop out for a surprise, asking to borrow her car since Abby has taken his. Mackenzie says she’ll make it worth his while if he tells her. Levi points out she’ll do that anyway and she hands him the keys.
At the Diner, Marilyn asks Roo how her lesson plan went. Roo says she couldn’t concentrate and apologises for being ungrateful but says she’s trying to find ways to support Eliza. Marilyn says she shouldn’t have accused Eliza of stealing. Roo gets a call from Tane and has to rush off as Alf comes in. Alf tells Marilyn that Martha has some storm damage and needs a hand but he’s not sure if he can leave at the moment.
At the surf club, Eliza stares at the ultrasound photo before accepting a juice. Tane comes in and says he told her to wait in the gym. Eliza says she was thirsty. Tane knows what she did was deliberate. Roo comes in and Tane takes her aside, saying Eliza hurt one of the boys. Roo asks if he’s okay and says accidents happen. Tane says it wasn’t an accident.
Roo and Eliza walk on the beach. Roo tells her what Tane said about her hitting Scott deliberately. Eliza claims that Scott said Roo didn’t care about her and was only using her because she’s paid by the government to look after her. Roo says that’s not true. Eliza agrees and says that’s why she hit him, to defend her.
Levi arrives home on the phone to someone, saying that’s why he reached out. Mackenzie comes in behind him as he says he’s pleased for them and wishes them well. After he’s hung off, he realises Mackenzie is there and tells her it was Imogen. He produces a bottle of champagne and explains the divorce is finalised. Mackenzie is delighted and Levi says he feels free.
Tane greets Mali at the surf club and talks to him about visiting Harper. He attempts to show him the new scan photo but can’t find it. As he heads off, Abigail comes downstairs with Mali’s order and seems keen to hang out, even though she’s meant to be working. Mali is obviously keen to get on with work and tells Abigail not everything’s about her.
Marilyn is trying to convince Alf to go and help Martha but he says he can get one of the neighbours to do it. Marilyn says she can keep an eye on Roo and Eliza, and Theo would help out at the caravan park. Roo and Eliza return and Roo settles Eliza at a neighbouring table. She admits to Alf and Marilyn what happened, then finds Eliza looking at the scan photo. Eliza admits she took it from Tane and says a life growing inside Harper is fascinating. Roo says they’re going to take the photo back to Tane and she’s going to apologise.
Levi explains to Mackenzie how Abigail helped him realise that he’d been separated over twelve months and Imogen was happy about it, having met someone else now. He also says that he wants to take Mackenzie away, suggesting Queensland. Mackenzie is delighted at the idea until Levi says it’s time for him to meet Dean.
On the beach, Mali is showing a class how to pop up onto boards. He sees Abigail approaching and leaves them to practice. Abigail says them not working together was the right thing to do. Mali points out she’s still interrupting him at work. Abigail says she didn’t think about leaving him short-staffed and offers to help. Mali agrees however that it’s good they’re not in each other’s pockets.
Roo and Eliza approach Tane at the surf club. Tane says Scott will be at the next session. Roo prompts Eliza to apologise for losing her temper, although she repeats the story about Scott saying things about Roo. Tane tells her to use words, not fists next time. Roo prompts Eliza further to return the photo and apologise. Tane wonders why she’d take it and Roo says Eliza’s interested in medical things. She tells Eliza she’s proud of her for doing the right thing. Eliza tells Tane she’ll see him tomorrow.
Shortly after, Tane is up in Salt and meets up with Mali. He tells him about Eliza punching someone, which he thinks she enjoyed, and taking the photo. He says even though he started the programme to help troubled youngsters, there’s something about her that he doesn’t feel comfortable with. Mali tells Tane that he should make Harper and the baby his priority. Abigail, who has been on the phone, tells Mali that Levi has summoned her home and wants him there too.
Roo and Eliza arrive back at the Diner. Roo tells Alf and Marilyn they’ve been to apologise to Tane, then tells Eliza to go and pick cake out. Marilyn isn’t happy and says Roo’s stopping Alf going to Merimbula. Roo says she’s the one that signed up for this, not Alf. Alf says he promised to support her but Roo tells him to go. Eliza chooses the chocolate cake and Roo says they’ll have it to go. She then gets a text from Tane asking to see her.
Mackenzie tells Levi this is a bad idea. Levi points out that if they’re going to spend their lives together, he needs to meet Dean some time. Mackenzie says she can’t leave Eden in charge of Salt again and Levi says it’s just for a week. Mackenzie asks about Abby, and Levi says he’s summoned her and Mali over. Abigail and Mali appear at that moment. Levi asks Mali to move in while they’re away. Mali shrugs and Levi drags Mackenzie off to pack. Abby comments on so much for space and distance.
Roo and Eliza turn up at Tane’s place. Tane asks to speak to Roo in private and Roo tells Eliza to wait in the car. Tane says he doesn’t think the youth programme is the right fit for Eliza and she has deeper problems. Roo says there’s bound to be behavioural issues but argues that Tane started the programme for this and he has a chance to make a difference. Soon after, Roo invites Eliza back in. Tane says he’s not going to give up on her but there are ground rules. Eliza says she doesn’t do rules. Tane wants her to promise it won’t happen again. Roo thinks that’s reasonable but Eliza doesn’t respond.
Mackenzie is packing but tells Levi it would help if she knew details. Levi suggests they stay with Dean. Mackenzie asks if Dean knows and Levi says he hasn’t got his number. Mackenzie argues that Dean isn’t Levi’s biggest fan. Levi thinks the fact they’ve been together over a year will count for something. Mackenzie thinks he’s overestimating Dean’s ability to forgive and forget. Levi says they’ll find out.
Roo is chasing Eliza down a path. Eliza says Tane’s trying to control her like Roo is. Roo says she’s responsible for her and Eliza threatens to ring the department and say Roo’s forcing her to do things, adding that she was right about Roo giving up on her like everyone else. Roo insists she cares. Eliza retorts that she doesn’t and Roo’s nothing to her.
