Extended Summary

John and Dana draw up on the beach in the surf club buggy with John telling Dana to get out and tooting the horn at her, saying it serves her right for drinking before a shift. Dana says he could give her the day off. John agrees there are enough lifesavers on dity to cover…so they can look after the swimmers while she does the grunt work. Dana insists she’s solved Harper’s problems. John isn’t convinced her tackling Tane about a bigger wedding is a good idea. Dana claims she was subtle. Rose comes out of the sea and notes Xander will be back in a couple of days. John sends Dana to do an inventory of the first aid kit now the flags are up. He and Rose see Cash and Eden approaching and John starts lobbying to be celebrant at their wedding. They awkwardly fob him off.

Up at the surf club, Tane asks Harper if he got it right about her being fine with a small wedding. Harper realises Dana has been speaking to him and tries to explain it away as her being drunk. Tane wonders why Dana would think that. Harper says that Dana has always had a dream about what their weddings are going to be like and is just having a hard time believing she’d want something low-key.

Alf and Roo are examining the breakfast spread Marilyn has set up on the surf club veranda. Roo says she was listening out for Eliza during the night and is going to take her shopping today, although she points out it’s not exactly fun since Eliza only has the clothes she’s wearing. Alf takes some of the breakfast spread and Marilyn complains about having to get some more.

Inside the otherwise empty house, Eliza comes downstairs, finds Marilyn’s bag and helps herself to some money from her purse. Roo comes in and tells her about the shopping plan. Eliza asks where breakfast is and Roo says it’s out on the balcony. Eliza walks out while Roo is still talking.

Dana complains to John as she works in the surf club office, saying it’s the surf club not a warship. She gets a call from Xander but John tells her to put her phone on silent in the drawer. He confirms they didn’t have phones in the navy and says things were much simpler then. He adds that the safety equipment can be checked if she’s bored.

Cash and Eden arrive back at the Newman house. Eden shrugs off John’s comment earlier but Cash tells her he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Eden says she wants the last six months to have not happened but they did, telling him not to push her. Cash says he needs to know, so Eden says in that case the answer’s no, and walks out.

Outside the surf club, John approaches Dana and gives her instructions on selling surf club raffle tickets, before noting an angry-looking Harper approaching. Harper tells Dana that she had no right elbowing in. John retreats as Dana insists someone had to do it and Harper can’t marry someone she can’t be honest with. Harper argues that it’s compromise but Dana replies that Tane hasn’t had a chance to compromise because he doesn’t know what she wants and if she ends up resenting it, it’ll be her fault. Harper tries to argue they don’t have the time or the budget but Dana thinks she’s simply scared.

Inside, Tane and Rose are chatting about Xander’s course. Rose goes to enjoy her day off. Harper comes in and tells Tane that Dana was right: She does want a big romantic wedding and it’s supposed to be the happiest day of her life so she wants the fairy tale of the flowers, the venue and the ring. She then walks off again.

John joins Eden at Salt and says it’s good to see her and Cash back together, even though Remi thinks different. Eden says the real problem is Cash wanting her to commit to being married. She says she does want to be with him but they have things to work through. John advises her to be honest with him. Meanwhile, Tane arrives home to find Cash staring at the ring and notes Harper now wants the whole deal. Cash says she’s entitled to change her mind. Tane says she didn’t, she wasn’t straight about what she wanted. Cash comments on how it’s his fault that Eden isn’t ready and he has to fix it.

At the Diner, Marilyn is trying to buy some tickets off Dana, who says there’s some good prizes although she might want to skip the dinner with John. Marilyn finds she doesn’t have the $50 note she thought she had and will have to pay later. Harper comes in and tells Dana she told Tane the truth, but she’s not sure how he reacted because she just blurted it out and ran off. Dana tells her to go back and talk to him.

Roo and Eliza arrive home with their shopping. Eliza says the shops were lame but when Roo asks about the shoes she got, she admits her last foster family never let her buy things like that. She gives Roo a thank you card. Roo wonders how she could afford it. Eliza thinks Roo is accusing her of stealing and says she had pocket money from her last family in her music box. She heads upstairs and puts a wad of cash in the box, hiding it before letting Roo in. Roo apologises for jumping to conclusions and says she’s happy Eliza’s there. Eliza hugs her, although her face remains expressionless.

Rose gets a phone call from Xander at Salt. Nearby, John offers to buy Eden dinner since she’s not talking to Remi or Cash but finds himself off the hook when Cash turns up. Cash tells Eden he made the wrong call before. Eden says she wants to be with him but he hurt her and it’s going to take a long time to come back from it. Cash accepts that.

Downstairs, Tane meets with Harper and asks why she didn’t tell him what she wanted, saying she’s going to be his wife and needs to talk to him. He says they’ll have a big wedding if it’s what she wants. Harper says she has lots of ideas. Tane says she can have whatever she wants, before releasing her to talk to Dana.

Harper bounds up to Dana and tells her she was right and Tane’s up for a big wedding. Dana checks she’s going to be matron of honour as Harper wonders how they’re going to do it in the time they’ve got before heading off to get her ideas ready. Rose approaches Dana and says Xander has been trying to call her: He’s all right but she’s not sure if the two of them will be because he’s staying in Melbourne.

Cash is getting ready for work and assures Eden he’s fine with things, putting the ring in a drawer. He notes Remi won’t be the only one with an opinion. Eden thinks Levi and Abigail will have a lot to say. Cash convinces her it’s better they hear it from her. He adds that he has a couple of days off after this shift and suggests they go away together.

Dana finishes a phone conversation with Xander, noting to Rose that it’s his dream job, events manager with a hospitality group and lots of venues. Rose says it’s all right to be upset because she is. Dana says it’s more complicated than that: Xander has asked her to move to Melbourne.
