Episode 8426

Extended Summary

Harper and Dana are walking by the beach. Dana is nervously talking about how it’s no big deal asking Tane to change the wedding plans. Harper eventually asks that she do it on her own and walks on. At the surf club, Roo tells Alf that she doesn’t know anything about the child that’s arriving except that it’s an emergency and will hear more from the social worker later. Harper passes her and asks Alf if he’s seen Tane. All Alf can offer is that he was there earlier.

Cash and Eden are curled up in bed together. Eden says she’s missed this. Tane comes home and calls out to Cash. Eden quietly notes she thought he’d have worked it out and Cash says they’ve barely left the room. He suggests they go out for dinner later. Tane gets a text from Harper asking him to meet her. He sees Cash and Eden emerge (fully dressed). Eden says she’d better go and Cash says they’ll meet back there in an hour before telling Tane it’s a long story.

Alf finds Marilyn outside the house. She warns him that Roo is on the phone to the social worker inside. Roo emerges a few moments later and tells them they’re getting a 14-year-old girl: She’s been in care since she was ten and her last foster home was destroyed in a fire. In response to further questions, she says her name’s Eliza and she’s arriving tonight.

Tane notes Cash looks happy and says he’s pleased for him and that Eden has got past everything. Cash is thrown by the comment and Tane reminds him he put Eden through a lot. Cash seems uncertain as he says he hopes they can move past that. Tane says it looks like they already have and heads off to meet Harper.

Tane meets Harper at the surf club and tells her that Cash and Eden are back together. Harper says some people are meant to be together. Tane says it’s the happiest Cash has been since Felicity. He asks Harper what she wanted but she says it was boring and they’ll get some food instead. Meanwhile, Remi arrives home to find Eden in a dressing gown. She didn’t know he’d gone away, from which he deduces she didn’t spend the night there and she had sex with her ex. Eden says she and Cash are officially back together. Remi asks if they’re just going to go back to planning the wedding and Eden says they haven’t talked about it. Remi drily says of course they haven’t.

Roo checks through the cupboards and sees they need to get cereal. Marilyn offers to start on dinner and Alf tells her to go easy on the tofu and mung beans. Roo says she’d better get Eliza’s room ready for her and some clothes, noting she doesn’t know if Eliza lost everything in the fire or not. Alf and Marilyn comment on Roo being nervous. Marilyn goes upstairs to help Roo make the bed. Roo still worries about letting Eliza down. Marilyn reminders her of the love she gave Maddy and Ryder and says Eliza’s lucky to have her.

Cash is drying himself off when Eden turns up. He notes she looks beautiful. She tells him she didn’t know Remi was visiting Bree and he had an opinion when he came back. Cash says Tane’s happy for them. As Cash is getting dressed, he notes they haven’t talked about what happened and asks if she can forgive him. Eden wearily notes that’s date night gone but agrees they need to talk.

Dana arrives at Salt on the phone to Xander, saying Harper has promised to tell Tane and that she can see them and they look happy. She hangs up as she approaches the table and says Xander will be back in a couple of days before asking what’s going on. Harper says she got bored and messaged Tane. Dana goes to join Remi at the bar, complaining about people making things difficult for themselves before asking him to buy her a drink and saying she wants everything.

Alf and Marilyn are getting the table set up as Roo arrives with Eliza, explaining she told her about Alf and Marilyn in the car. Alf says to treat the place like her own and Eliza says she won’t be there long. Alf tries to take a box from her but she won’t let go and Roo explains the music box is all she saved from the fire. Marilyn says they have dinner ready including chocolate pudding but Eliza says she’s not hungry. Roo offers to show her to her room.

On the balcony at Salt, Dana asks how you can get someone to wake up to themself. Remi says if he knew that he wouldn’t be drinking alone which she shows minor offence at. They wonder who the other is talking about and Dana suggests they tell each other on three. She says Harper while Remi remains silent, before going on to explain Cash and Eden are getting back together. He guesses there’s a problem between Harper and Tane.

In the main restaurant, Harper suggests Tane go and close the gym. He asks what she wanted and she says she thinks they could make more of a fuss of the wedding, which surprises him. She says you only get one wedding: Tane looks bemused and she amends it to her only getting one wedding. Tane says he thought she wanted something small before Archie arrived and she agrees. Tane goes to close the gym. A drunken Dana comes over and complains to Harper, who says she spoke to Tane but it’s not going to happen and she’s not going to push it.

Eden and Cash are eating at his place. Eden says it’s not about forgiveness but acknowledges she saw a version of him she didn’t like. Cash admits he put her through hell but suggests they focus on the future. Eden wonders what looks like to him and he says the two of them back together and engaged. Eden says she needs time to think about it.

Roo is changing Eliza’s dressing in her room, saying there’s some pyjamas there and they’ll go shopping tomorrow. Eliza says very little as Roo says she can talk to her if she wants to. Eliza eventually says the fire was intense and all she could do was run. Roo says she heard her foster siblings were still inside the house and is thankful they got out alive. Eliza says Roo did good with the dressing. Roo leaves her to settle in.

Tane is closing up at the surf club when Dana accosts him in a drunken state telling him to give Harper the big wedding she’s asked for. Tane says he and Harper spoke and they’re on the same page. Dana insists that Harper wants the big dress and the flowers and the venue and the ring and tells him to give her what she wants.

Alf, Roo and Marilyn are sitting down to eat, noting it’s a shame Eliza can’t join them. Roo reflects on how scared she must be. Upstairs, Eliza opens up the music box and removes a drawer, producing a feather, a lock of hair, a photo with some of the faces scratched out, a ring and a lighter which she ignites. As Roo is saying it’s important she doesn’t give up on her, Eliza stares intently into the flames.
