Roo rebuffs Bree’s act of charity. Harper tells Tane to step up his romance game. Dana faces a painful truth.
Extended Summary
Tane is running a class on the beach while Harper sits watching him from nearby. Dana sits with Harper and starts quizzing her about the relationship and how romantic Tane is. Harper says that Dana must be really missing Xander if she has to do this. After Dana has gone, Tane sits with Harper, addressing her as the mother of his child. Harper tries to suggest they go out to a movie but Tane is more preoccupied with feeling the baby kicking. At the Lyrik house, Remi is trying to assuage Bree’s guilt, saying it’s not her fault that Alf is the way he is. Bree however wants to do something to help and Remi agrees.
Alf arrives back at the caravan park house, noting that the bait shop looks as though he’s never been there. Roo starts running him through her ideas for the new shed and where it should be. Alf asks for a moment but eventually looks at her ideas. He doesn’t mind one until he sees it will cost $35,000, at which point he decides to go back to using the old shed.
At the Diner, Justin tells John about clearing out the bait shop and Roo’s plans. Roo arrives and explains that Alf won’t pay for a new shed and wants to use the old one, where Justin helped him store the gear thinking it would be temporary. Roo doesn’t think he’ll change his mind.
At the surf club, Dana notices Theo playing pool on his own and angles to play him. Dana starts talking to him about long-distance while breaking without flipping a coin. She continues to wax lyrical about it as Theo prepares to take his shot, then gets a text from Xander inviting her to Melbourne for the weekend. Theo gives up on the game. Later, Dana is discussing the trip with Xander on the phone when Harper sits with her and admits she and Tane have nothing to talk about other than the baby. Dana asks if she’s tried changing the subject before suggesting they ban talking about the baby for 24 hours.
Roo continues to tell John and Justin that she wishes Alf would spend the money. Remi and Bree turn up and ask to talk to Roo, offering their help. Roo tells them about Alf thinking the new shed is too expensive. Remi offers to pay for it and says Alf doesn’t have to find out but Roo doesn’t think it’s appropriate and refuses.
Later, John approaches Remi and Bree wondering why Roo suddenly took off. Remi doesn’t want to talk about it and instead tells John that if he objected to the noise, he should have knocked on the door instead of sending the police round. John says he actually quite liked it and suggests the couple at Number 26, who’ve just had another baby, might have done it. Remi notes he’s getting everything wrong lately but suggests to Bree that he could talk to Roo.
Roo arrives home and finds Alf looking over the quotes. She again tries to convince him to buy the shed but Alf refuses to pay those prices and puts the printout in the bin. Meanwhile, Tane and Harper are walking and she puts the idea of not talking about the baby to him. Tane agrees and suggests she goes first. Harper awkwardly says they should just talk about other things when they come up. After a few moments of silence, Harper suddenly “remembers” she has something to do.
At Salt, Dana chats to Xander on the phone about seeing where he works. Harper arrives and says she and Tane have nothing to talk about, which she realised after 24 seconds. Dana wonders what they used to talk about before she got pregnancy. Harper says they talked about Perri, his court case, fostering and his marriage. Dana says Harper deserves some romance and encourages her to tell Tane to take her out to dinner.
At the caravan park house, Roo tries to get Alf to crunch some numbers and reveals she’s taken the quotes out of the bin. Remi turns up and, on establishing he’s there to see Roo, Alf makes himself scarce. Remi suggests that Roo is causing Alf to miss out just so she can go on punishing Bree. Roo says she hopes Bree is getting help with whatever Remi told them about but still isn’t comfortable with it. Remi stresses that she’s only hurting Alf.
Tane and Harper are having dinner on the balcony at Salt and Harper is reminiscing about how Dana nicknamed her Harpsichord when she was young, not because she was musical (Dana buried her recorder so she wouldn’t play) but because she thought it sounded cute. Tane says he doesn’t just talk about the baby, which Harper says means he has to pay her $5 for mentioning it although she also understands him being excited.
At the Lyrik house, Theo and Remi are happily practising together while Bree looks on. Roo arrives and says she’s got the song stuck in her head now. Remi sends Theo out the back so they can talk in private. Roo says she was rude before and that she’ll accept the offer if it’s still on the table. Remi and Bree both agree. Roo shakes Remi’s hand and leaves. Bree kisses Remi, who decides to tell Theo that rehearsals are over for the day.
John tries to talk to Dana about sweeping out the old bait shop but she’s preoccupied; Xander has cancelled their weekend together. John gets a text from Roo asking to talk as Dana says it was the first time they were going to see each other. John is amused that it’s only been three days and says he did long distance while in the navy and she’s no chance if she can’t make it through the first week.
At the Diner, Roo tells John and Justin that they’ve received an anonymous donation but the shed can’t be delivered and installed for three months, so she wants them to build one like it. They are both unconvinced, especially since she wants to hide it from Alf. Alf walks in as Roo is telling John he’ll need to keep his mouth shut. John quickly covers by saying Roo wanted to stop one of his naval anecdotes (but is crestfallen at how quickly it’s believed). Roo ushers Alf out, and John tells Justin this could blow up in their faces.
Tane and Harper are walking near the beach and Harper seems willing to accept Tane’s offer to go straight home until she notices Dana sitting on her own outside the surf club, looking upset. They go over and Tane says he’ll see Harper at home. Dana tells Harper about Xander cancelling their weekend and says she thinks they’re over.
