Levi’s concern for Abigail grows. Harper and Tane look to the future.
Extended Summary
Levi and Mackenzie are sharing a long kiss outside the surf club after he’s arrived back from work. Mackenzie admits she’s had a problem with Abigail: She asked her how she’s getting on with finding a new counsellor and Abigail got annoyed. Levi notes that he’s given her a list of ideas but she hasn’t picked one. He decides to talk to her…after pulling Mackenzie into another kiss first.
Inside, Alf, John and Dana are sat together. John wants to get on, insisting there’s no problem. Dana disagrees, since he’s rearranged the rosters to stop them working together. Roo arrives and John hopes she’s there to relieve him. He tries claiming that Dana just doesn’t need supervision now that she’s qualified to drive the buggy and ends up walking away. Roo promises that she’ll fix it.
Levi arrives home and is pleased to see Abigail’s looking at her journal again. However, Abigail thinks it’s proof that Tim was full of garbage, reading out passages that say she has the opportunity to grow and to take control and saying the fact Tim dropping her shows she has no control. She walks out, refusing to talk about it.
At the Diner, Leah and Justin are affectionately talking about her rings being back where they belong while Marilyn glares from the counter. Alf comes in and is puzzled why Marilyn’s in a bad mood. Marilyn follows Leah into the kitchen and Leah insists she’s not going to tell Justin what really happened to the rings. Marilyn argues that white lies are still lies and Leah made her promise to keep her honest but Leah tells her to let it go. Meanwhile, Tane and Harper arrive back at the Parata house. Cash is on a night shift so they have the place to themselves. They discuss the fact they’ve decided to do this “relationship thing”. Harper calls it scary but admits it’s in a good way. They kiss with increasing intensity.
At Salt, Mackenzie tells John and Roo there’s a table ready for them on the balcony. John checks the meal’s on Roo and she says to put it on the surf club account. Xander admits to Mackenzie that he made things worse between John and Dana earlier. Mackenzie suggests the free meal might make him better. John says he’s glad to have company with Irene away. Dana comes in and John says Roo’s as bad as Alf. Dana admits she was in on it and Roo tells them to have a nice meal, leaving them to it. Dana asks John if he’s going to walk out and John notes there’s a free meal in it.
Abigail thanks Levi for cooking and he notes he just heated up last night’s takeaway. Abigail drops a bag into the bin before wondering if they should invite Eden over for a movie. Levi asks what the plan is if she’s not going back to counselling. Abgail says she doesn’t have one. Levi says that terrifies him because she might relapse. Abigail insists she won’t. Mackenzie arrives and Abigail tells her there’s only leftovers, before going to eat in her room. Levi says he could throttle Eden. Meanwhile, Tane and Harper are curled up in bed together. Harper notices the ultrasound photo and Tane says he looks at it all the time. Harper thinks she should go but Tane tells her to stay.
Dana thinks the meal is a failure, since all John has said is that the food was good, four hours ago. She tells him she wants to work with him and be friends. John wonders why when she thinks so badly of him. Dana says he’s been a big part of Summer Bay feeling like home, recalling how he’s taught her lifesaving and how they enjoyed each other’s company when he was sick. John recalls her sticking up for him when he was banned from teaching. Dana says he’s been like a father to her and John says he sees her as a daughter. Dana says none of the things she said change how she feels deep down. She promises not to jump to conclusions and he promises to give her the benefit of the doubt as they clink glasses…then decide to order all the deserts to annoy Roo.
At the Diner, Leah and Justin leave together while Roo fills Alf in on what she did with John and Dana. Marilyn is still in a bad mood and tells them about Leah and Justin getting her to promise to keep them truthful when they renewed their vows. (Roo didn’t know they had and wonders what else she missed.) She tells them about Leah lying about where she found her wedding ring. Alf and Roo don’t think it’s a big deal, with Alf saying Marilyn needs a hobby, but Marilyn thinks Leah should be truthful.
Levi is telling Mackenzie about how Abigail won’t see a counsellor. Mackenzie suggests they tell her why Tim abandoned her but Levi worries that will undo her progress. Mackenzie proposes they trust that she is handling things. Levi finds what Abigail threw away: Her journal, with everything she’s written scribbled out, which he thinks is a reason to worry.
Next morning, Dana drives John in the buggy on the beach. He tells her to set the flags up, after which she can take an early break, and drives off in the buggy. Xander approaches and Dana asks if he wants to have a coffee with Summer Bay’s number one lifesaver. Xander says he’d rather have one with his girlfriend. They see Tane and Harper walk onto the beach holding hands; Dana is delighted and Harper smiles at her,
Levi has got breakfast set up, telling Mackenzie he’s going into work late so he can talk to Abigail, since he thinks she wanted him to find the journal as a cry for help. He checks her room but finds she’s not there and might have left during the night, not answering when he tries to ring her. Mackenzie says she’ll get dressed and they’ll go look for her.
At the Diner, Leah and Justin have finished breakfast and Justin wants to buy a leg rope and go for a surf. Marilyn steps in, saying the dishonesty ends here. Leah tells Justin about planting the rings in the pipe because she didn’t want his hard work to go to waste. Justin mulls it over for a moment, then hugs her and calls it sweet. Marilyn says honesty is the best policy.
Levi and Mackenzie arrive at the surf club and find Abigail at work. She says Mali had an early lesson so she got a lift in with him. Levi sends Mackenzie on ahead and tells Abigail he’s not going to stop worrying about her. Justin arrives and tries to buy the leg rope. Levi tells Abigail about looking at the journal and Abigail says he’s worse than Eden before storming off. Justin heads up to Salt for a coffee and tells Mackenzie and Xander what happened. Xander tells Mackenzie he’ll cover while she goes and sorts it.
Abigail is standing by the beach. Levi apologises for overstepping. Abigail says she trusted her counsellor, who he recommended, and now Levi needs to trust her. Mackenzie cuts in, saying Levi wants what’s best for her. Abigail says one more word about Tim, counselling or her recovery and she’s packing her bags and leaving.
