Extended Summary

Kirby congratulates a class on the beach. John draws up next to her and notes Mali should be careful of her taking over the business. They discuss Mali not winning the competition. Levi and Abigail approach; Kirby tells John who Abigail is and says she’s a handful. John tries to introduce himself as they come past but Abby ignores him. Levi tells Abby that she didn’t hear everything and convinces her to have breakfast with him, reminding her their mum always used to say not to make a big decision on an empty stomach. At the farm house, Mackenzie greets Mali when he’s finally washed and dressed and tells him she needs him to drive her into work, saying it’s thanks to their new housemate. Mali didn’t know they had one.

Remi and Eden are surprised by an abrupt visit from Cash, who walks in without knocking. Remi offers to make himself scarce but Eden tells him to stay. Cash asks her not to quit Salt, saying he’ll try and make things comfortable for her while they’re working together. Eden says he’s made it clear they’re not a team anymore and to knock next time.

At the Diner, Levi tells Abigail that he wants to help her for her, not to make up for how things are with Eden. He says it was his fault for springing her staying with them on Mackenzie and that if she gives Mack a chance, he’ll soon be the third wheel. At the surf club, Kirby stops Alf and tells Mali she’s thinking of getting Mali’s certificate framed but isn’t sure whether to ask him or make it a surprise. Alf doesn’t want to get involved but says it’s a nice gesture either way.

Back at the Lyrik house, Remi tries to suggest to Eden that everything with Felicity is still raw for Cash. Eden says he’s made his feelings clear and she needs to rip the band aid off: Salt isn’t the same without Felicity anyway. Remi wonders how she’ll pay rent and Eden says she’ll weave baskets so long as Cash isn’t there. Remi suggests just ignoring him and Eden reminds him how he struggled when he and Bree were broken up.

Mali and Mackenzie arrive outside the surf club. Mali observes that Levi and Eden are both fiery. Mackenzie says Abigail has issues but doesn’t go into detail. Levi and Abigail approach and Mackenzie tries to introduce Abby and Mali to each other. Abigail says she isn’t staying and, despite Mackenzie saying she wants her to, notes she hasn’t made her feel welcome. Mackenzie tells her to drop the attitude when asking a stranger for help and walks away. Levi goes after her, leaving Abigail with Mali, who properly introduces himself. Mackenzie tells Levi she’s not the one in the wrong and to stop letting Abigail walk all over him. Levi explains Abigail overheard them talking and got the wrong end of the stick.

Remi finds Eden looking at job ads. She notes that a traffic controller pays well and an advert for a demolition labourer. She briefly considers teaching bass before realising she doesn’t have the patience. She suggests getting the band back together but Remi says they’re doing their own thing at the moment. She wonders if she could do session work with him. Remi notices she isn’t wearing her engagement ring and she says she’s not engaged anymore.

At Salt, Levi asks Mackenzie to help him convince Abigail she’s welcome. Mackenzie isn’t sure she can, pointing out Abby stole his car. Levi accepts how she feels and says he’ll find somewhere else for them to stay. Mackenzie is thrown that he’d go with Abigail. Downstairs, Abigail looks over Mali’s boards, saying she always wanted to learn. Mali says he could teach her and thinks she and Mackenzie will get along. He keeps getting texts and says it’s his brothers and sisters teasing him about the art contest, admitting he got cocky when he thought he was going to win. Abigail admits she’s barely had any contact with Eden and Levi in years. She gets a text from Levi asking them both to come upstairs.

Mali and Abigail join Levi and Mackenzie. Abigail notes it feels like being in trouble with the parents. Mackenzie says she’d like Abigail to stay if it’s okay with Mali, since it means a lot to Levi. Abigail admits she’s not been nice and mentions coming off drugs to Mali. Mali says it seems she’s their new housemate.

Later, at the farm house, Mackenzie checks on Abigail, who is still feeling the effect of withdrawals. Abigail says Levi is going to go to pick up her things from her mum’s. Mackenzie offers to take her shopping and Abigail agrees. Levi comes in and notes he said he’d be the third wheel with them. They both tell him he’s making dinner.

At the coffee cart, Marilyn tells Kirby she met Abigail earlier. John says he found her spirited. Cash appears and thanks Marilyn for the food. Kirby checks in with him. John comes over, saying he hopes the wedding’s soon and offering his services as celebrant. Cash admits he and Eden broke up. Later, Remi turns up at the Newman house and Cash comments that he was expecting him. Remi tries to say breaking up with Eden makes no sense but Cash refuses to talk about it. Remi changes tack, saying that it’s not fair for him to make Eden quit her job and he needs to come up with a better plan.

Mali tells Kirby about Abigail moving in. Kirby makes a few attempts to draw his attention to the certificate which he eventually notices and is pleased. Alf comes back and says he thought he’d like it. Mali thanks the pair of them, saying their support is better than the prize. After Alf is gone, Kirby checks if Mali really wants Alf’s approval more than $15,000 and he admits no.

Cash is walking on the beach when John pulls up next to him, saying he’s sorry to hear about him and Eden, and won’t ask what happened but is there if he needs to talk. He expects Cash to refuse but instead Cash asks his advice, telling him about trying to keep an eye on Salt for Felicity but upsetting Eden enough that she quit. John tells him to make things easier on himself and Eden: Salt is just bricks and mortar and his real connection to Felicity is in his heart.

Mali gets another phone call from an unknown number. Kirby suggests his mum has borrowed a friend’s phone. Mali speaks to the caller and says he’ll get back to him. He tells Kirby that one of the judges owns an art gallery and wants to represent him.

Cash goes round to see Eden, this time knocking on the door frame and waiting for her to respond. He tells her she doesn’t need to quit her job: He’s going to step back from Salt and become a silent partner, saying this was never meant to hurt her. Eden accepts that but wonders if this is really what he wants. He says it is.
