Extended Summary

Kirby finishes off a surf class on the beach. John pulls up in his buggy and comments that he’ll have peace and quiet tonight, saying the band should have quit earlier. Kirby protests that they’re just on a break as he drives off. Remi comes up to her and learns Mali has got her covering the afternoon classes. He gets roped into helping her take the boards up to the surf club, noting he’s got nothing else to do.

Tane chases Harper down a flight of steps, asking if he did something. Harper says he slept with her and acted as though it meant nothing. Tane says they talked and it was okay. Harper says Tane talked. Tane says he’s not in the right headspace for a relationship right now. Harper says that’s why she can’t work with him anymore.

At the coffee cart, Irene expresses surprise at John being against Tane’s plan. John says it sounds dangerous. Irene doesn’t think Harper would get involved in something that would put people at risk and John admits he might have been harsh. Leah turns up and Irene tells her that she understands Leah not wanting to pay for the health inspector so she’s going to pay herself. Leah is annoyed and says she’ll transfer her half.

At the Newman house, Felicity congratulates Cash on coming to his senses and she and Eden note they always knew he was meant to be a cop. Cash asks why they didn’t say something at the time, then remembers they did. Felicity leaves Eden to help him out. Cash says he needs to reapply and isn’t keen on doing an online refresher course. Eden calls it a hoop he has to jump through. Cash suggests she check on Remi to take her mind off Levi. Eden tries to deny it before admitting she’s not as heartless as she makes out. Cash says he’ll bring some pizzas over later.

At the Lyrik house, Kirby is on the phone to a board customer while Remi plays guitar on the sofa, saying she’ll get back to them when she has the details. She goes to make a cup of tea and finds they have no milk. Remi says he meant to get some and Kirby is annoyed he couldn’t even do that. Eden turns up and Remi tells her to run. Kirby says her savings are running out and the other two need to get jobs. Remi suggests Eden ask Cash for money and she suggests he ask his parents.

Later, Remi and Kirby insist there’s no jobs. Kirby says she saw at least ten in Yabbie Creek they could apply for. Remi reads out the list: Cleaner, receptionst, parking cop. Kirby says she took the job that was available and Remi points out she’s surfing all day. Kirby says she’s trying to keep a roof over their heads. The lights go out and Kirby asks who didn’t pay the electricity bill.

Felicity serves Cash and Tane at Salt. Cash asks Tane how he’s been since getting back from the city. Felicity reveals Cash is going back to the police. Cash confirms he’s applied and signed up for the course. He recalls talking to Rose about Levi. Tane has no idea what he’s talking about. Later, Cash has filled him in but doesn’t know who did it. Tane says he’ll call Mackenzie and tells Cash and Felicity about his gym programme and how John isn’t keen on it. Seeing Harper come in, Cash calls her over and says she could help out. Tane says she’s already helped and Harper quickly leaves. Cash realises this is what she had on her mind before.

Kirby is searching through the drawers for more than one candle while Remi and Eden sport torches. Eden says she’s responsible for paying for WiFi and Remi says he’s responsible for gas and that’s not due for two months. Kirby says she’s gas. Remi realises he’s electricity. He suggests this is a chance to put aside their tension with a jam session. The others decide to head over to Cash’s instead.

At the Diner, Irene and John discuss her falling out with Leah. John still doesn’t want to put Tane’s idea before the committee. Irene thinks he’s afraid that Alf will come back and not like it. John makes a quick exit when he sees Harper coming. Harper tells Irene she’s pulled out of Tane’s idea and indicates something happened between her and Tane a few weeks back (it takes a couple of goes for Irene to realise what) and she thought it would lead to something. She says their friendship meant a lot to her and she wishes she hadn’t complicated things.

Cash is serving the pizza to Eden, Kirby and Felicity at the Newman house. Kirby thanks them for putting her up for the night. They note Remi’s in denial about how broke they are. Eden asks Felicity if the offer to work at Salt is still open, saying it’s not Mackenzie’s fault she fell in love with the wrong guy. Felicity says she can start on Monday. Eden tells Cash not to say a word. Across the road, Remi is sat strumming his guitar. His torch keeps flickering on and off and eventually goes out completely.

Next morning, Harper is approaching the surf club and sees Tane outside. He says she doesn’t need to take off. Harper says she was actually looking for him and they need to talk. At the Diner, Remi is slowly counting out the money for his coffee. John mocks him and Leah eventually lets him off the rest of it. Irene says the inspector came first thing and she’s waiting on the report. She apologises for pressuring Leah into this and says she got her priorities wrong and their friendship means a lot to her. Leah says she understands Irene wanting to help Bronte and agrees they can get past this.

Walking on the beach, Tane apologises for the crossed wires and Harper says she should have been honest. Tane reiterates that he shouldn’t be with anyone but says he couldn’t have got through the last three months without her. Harper says they can’t be friends until she’s worked her way through it. However, she also tells him to push ahead with his idea.

Tane goes to see John at the surf club and tells him he’s not going to take no for an answer: If need be, he’ll go directly to the committee. Nearby, Kirby is trying to get hold of Mali on the phone. Cash and Eden join her. Cash offers to pay to get the power back on but Eden refuses. Kirby goes to take a class as Eden insists Remi has to pay the bill.

Leah tells Irene that she misses Justin but he’s getting on well with Ava. Irene gets a message with the report but can’t bring herself to read it. Leah does and says the investigation focused on who was responsible for plumbing maintenance. Irene thinks it’s the building owner. Leah says that they have a responsibility to keep on top of annual reports. Irene doesn’t think there was anything in the last one but Leah says apparently they missed a recommendation to get the plumbing checked out, meaning they’re at fault. Meanwhile, Eden goes home and tells Remi about taking the job at Salt. Remi says he’s going to go out busking. Eden agrees it’s a start but says she’s going to get some clean clothes and have a shower at Cash’s…and he’s not invited.

Leah gets off the phone with the solicitors and tells Irene that if the claimants go through then they’ll have to pay $100,000, which they can’t do without selling the Diner. She thinks their best option is to talk to Joseph and Bronte. Irene says Bronte’s prospects are dire without the payout. Leah is going to talk to Joseph and Irene needs to talk to Bronte, otherwise the Diner is finished.
