Extended Summary

Roo and Tane exit the surf club, wondering what they need to do to get the ball rolling. Harper appears at that moment and Roo explains her plan. Harper suggests they go somewhere and pick up where they left off. Tane is looking forward to seeing Maia when she’s living with Roo. Harper warns him that Roo hasn’t been approved yet. Roo assures him she’ll keep him up to date from the hospital.

At the Morgan house, a high Valerie tells Theo she wants to go swimming. When Theo doesn’t respond, she thinks the pill hasn’t taken effect yet and offers him another one. Theo admits he didn’t take the first one, but before they can discuss it fully, they hear Leah and Justin approaching. Theo hastily shuts Valerie in the bedroom before letting in Leah and Justin, who have just been to pick up wedding bands (Justin isn’t sure how wearing his at the garage will work). Leah was hoping to speak to Valerie about the clinic. Theo says she’s resting and convinces them to go get some food and discuss wedding plans.

Rose is bantering with a colleague, Constable Erikson, about coffee as they go back to their car. Tane accosts Rose and says that Roo is applying to be Maia’s carer and he’s applying to be a permanent resident to take her full-time. Rose warns him it doesn’t work like that. Tane thinks that with all these people behind him, the sergeant will reconsider letting him go to the hospital, but Rose says nothing’s changed for Sarge and she’ll let him know if it does.

By the coffee cart, Harper is helping Roo fill out the forms. Roo notes there’s no guarantee she’ll get Maia but Harper says they can talk to the agency about it. Marilyn serves them and Roo thanks her for her support. Marilyn thinks it’ll be good to have Maia in the house until her mother’s found or Tane’s approved. Roo thinks she and Tane will make a good team.

Kirby arrives at the surf club and chats to Tane about the donations. He lets her know he’s still not allowed to see the baby. Leah, Justin and Theo turn up and greet Kirby, who explains she’s been away visiting her family for a week. Leah tries to invite Kirby to join them but Theo and Justin quickly veto the idea. As they head upstairs, Dana comes down and Tane asks about Maia. Dana says she’s okay but Tane suspects Dana’s hiding something. Dana admits Maia has a temperature but reiterates that she’s okay. Tane rushes out anyway.

Up in Salt, Justin is putting ideas to Leah, suggesting arriving in a horse-drawn carriage or classic cars. Theo gets a text from Kirby asking him to explain what that was and makes his excuses to go see her. Justin tells Leah that Kirby’s a bit jealous of Theo and Valerie. He starts suggesting they take dance lessons and do a big routine for their first dance. Leah is willing to go for dance lessons but is hoping for something a bit more traditional as Justin shows her an example video (and tells her they don’t have to have fireworks).

A nurse leaves Roo alone with Maia. Tane comes barging in to check on her. Roo tells him that everything’s fine and warns him he can’t be there but Tane scoops Maia up, oblivious to her words. Later, Tane is cradling Maia in a chair. Roo tries to convince him to go but Tane says Maia’s settled and that Roo can go if she’s not happy with it, which she does.

Theo has met Kirby downstairs and tries to convince her he’s not doing drugs anymore. Leah and Justin come downstairs and tell Kirby it’s hard tto move on sometimes. Kirby says she doesn’t need to have this conversation with them and walks out. They wonder if they overstepped. Soon after, the three of them are back at the Morgan house, with Theo asking about the classic cars and requesting a V8. Valerie joins them and Leah asks her about the clinic. Valerie says she saw someone new and had a bit of a breakthrough. Justin and Leah go to bed. Theo apologises for lying to Valerie and says he just wanted to make up for messing things up. Valerie agrees to forget about it.

Next morning, Harper and Dana have met Marilyn at the coffee cart with Dana saying she needs caffeine to get through her shift. Rose approaches as Marilyn notes Roo said the baby hadn’t been very well. Harper and Dana say it’s no big deal and Dana says people always panic when she tells them. Harper and Rose worry that she told Tane. Dana admits she did but says he won’t turn up at the hospital… Rose goes there and finds Tane sat by Maia’s bedside. She tries to warn him what her sergeant will do if he hears about it. Tane suggests bringing the sergeant down to have a look, because he’s not moving.

Leah and Valerie are sat on the beach as Justin and Theo surf. Leah says she’s proud of Valerie for seeking help. Valerie says she wishes it helped her as much as it has Leah. Justin and Theo join them. Valerie compliments Theo and Leah says she’s saving her compliments for the wedding vows. Justin suggests they improvise the vows and just speak from the heart, which leaves Leah aghast. Justin thinks the wedding should be a big party celebrating them while Leah wants something more traditional. Theo gets a text from Kirby asking him to meet her and explain what happened and makes his excuses again, saying he has a TAFE assignment to hand in.

At the hospital, Dana is looking after Maia as Tane tells Rose he’s played things her way and she still hasn’t found Maia’s mother and Harper still hasn’t found her a home. Rose gets a phone call and confirms Tane is there. She tells Tane that one of the nurses told the police station he’s there so the AVO has been set in motion. Tane says in that case, he’ll stay until she forces him to leave.

Theo has met Kirby at the Diner. He explains he told Justin she was jealous so he didn’t have to tell him about the drugs. Kirby thinks he should have done. Theo admits he’s out of his depth with Valerie and could do with someone to talk to. Marilyn turns up and greets Roo, who tells her about Tane turning up. Harper appears and postpones her meeting with Roo; Dana texted her about Tane so she’s on her way to the police station. There, Rose is on the phone to Sarge trying to talk him out of actioning the AVO. Harper tries to argue that Tane isn’t a threat to the baby but Rose says the baby isn’t his and he’s his own worst enemy.

Theo has filled Kirby in on Valerie and says he wants to help her. Kirby is sympathetic and says he can only support her but tells him to cut out the pills  He promises that he has but doesn’t know how to help Valerie when she doesn’t want to be helped. Kirby realises he loves her. Valerie sees them holding hands and hurries off.

At the hospital, Dana comes in and takes Maia away. Moments later, Rose appears with Erikson and tells Tane that he needs to come with her or she’ll arrest him.
