Episode 8225

Extended Summary

Tane cheerily jogs up to Mali overlooking the beach, saying he’ll take the class. He explains that Roo has agreed to consider being Maia’s foster carer. Mali agrees that she’d be great and they see Alf and Roo walking nearby. Alf is expressing concerns but Roo reveals she has arranged to meet Harper to talk over what is involved.

Theo and Valerie arrive back at the Morgan house. Theo notes no-one’s there, which is probably a good thing given the state Valerie’s in. Valerie says she’s good at pretending to be sober, unlike Theo who was the designated driver. They talk about her getting them into a club for free and Valerie considers going to a warehouse rave next time they’re “at the clinic”. Theo isn’t keen on lying to Justin and Leah again but Valerie says this way everyone’s happy. She drags him to the bedroom where he just wants to sleep. Valerie says she can’t handle it being still and quiet. Theo agrees that sleep’s overrated and they start passionately kissing.

Xander arrives back at the flat with coffees and finds Bree on the phone to work, saying it’s not a good day for her to be doing an extra shift and asking them to find someone else. She accepts Xander’s coffee and croissants and thanks him for looking after her. Xander says a new house rule is that no-one sleeps in until mid-morning.

Harper meets Roo at Salt. Roo explains that she’s considering being a foster carer for Maia. Harper says that’s great if it’s what she wants. Roo admits she’s never cared for a baby before and asks what it would involve. Felicity overhears while serving them coffee and agrees it would be great if Roo could do it. Roo hopes she’ll eventually hand Maia over to Tane long-term. Harper asks if she’s doing it for Tane and Roo says she’s doing it for Maia. Harper offers to give her some reading material and forms and says she’ll help her with the application if she goes ahead, noting some people have trouble letting go.

Roo talks to Alf near the beach, saying Harper was very helpful but she’s not sure if she can do it. Alf says it’s not for everyone. Roo thinks she should but is scared about having to give the baby back. Alf understands Roo’s looking out for Maia but says he’s looking out for her. Later, Felicity goes to see Roo in the office and thinks what she’s doing is a good thing. She admits that she considered doing it herself and realised she was doing it for the wrong reasons but thinks Roo would do a good job. Exiting the office, Felicity notices the donations table and wonders if the baby actually needs all this. Mali says it’s surprising what babies need.

Bree checks her phone when she gets an alert and says it’s the hospital letting her know they’ve found someone else. She admits she was hoping Remi would ring. Xander points out that she wouldn’t answer if he did. Bree says she’s trying not to give him the wrong signals and Xander suggests Remi’s doing the same. Bree admits she’s disappointed he didn’t fight for her but accepts they’ve both made their choice. Later, Bree has got dressed but still refuses to leave the flat. Felicity turns up and has to prompt Xander to let her in. She announces they’re going to organise a fundraiser for the baby. Xander isn’t sure Mackenzie would like that but Felicity says she’s not here. Bree encourages Xander to help.

Tane adds something to the donations table as Roo emerges from the office. He tries to question her but Roo, somewhat flustered, asks him to give her space. Meanwhile, Theo and Valerie are lying in bed together. He comments that she seems sleepy despite her earlier comments. Valerie wonders why he’s smiling and he says he thinks he’s falling in love with her. Valerie looks suddenly uncomfortable, gathering her clothes and hurrying out. Theo follows her to the living area where she has hurriedly dressed and asks to accompany her on a walk but Valerie insists she needs to go. She wants him to take back what he said, saying she’ll let him down and mess up what they’ve got; Leah and Justin will choose sides and she’ll have to leave.

Felicity tells Xander her plan for a silent auction with local businesses donating prizes. Xander isn’t sure why she needs him and isn’t confident about his abilities after what Mackenzie said. Felicity prompts a distracted Bree to back her up, before saying she’s been thinking about what would have happened to her and Cash without foster carers. Bree decides to go and check her roster. Felicity senses there’s some gossip and Xander admits it’s about Remi and Bree.

Alf finds Roo in the surf club office. She is looking up the testimony of foster carers on the computer and says she thought she wanted to do this for Maia but maybe she needs to do it for her. Alf says if that’s how she feels then he’ll support her. He exits the office and runs into Tane, who wonders about Roo. Alf says she’s working through it.

Theo chases Valerie down the beach and asks her to come home. Valerie says she doesn’t have a home, breaking down in tears. Theo tries to comfort her but she says she can’t give him more than having fun and forgetting. He asks her to come home again, offering her his hand. Meanwhile, Roo goes to see Tane at the gym. He apologises for being pushy. Roo produces the material Harper gave her and tells him she’s in. She advises Tane to read up on it because Maia will need a permanent home eventually.

Theo and Valerie arrive back at the Morgan house. Valerie says she needs to be by herself. Theo says to pretend he didn’t say anything and it was just the drugs talking, before suggesting they hang. Valerie produces some pills, saying it’s what she’s going to do to forget and it’s up to him if he joins her. She places a pill in his mouth and kisses him, before taking a pill herself and lying down on the couch. Theo takes the pill out of his mouth and pockets it.
