Has Theo lost Valerie? Rose lays down the law. Tane and Roo push back.
Extended Summary
Theo goes chasing after Valerie and admits he never had to go to TAFE and just needed someone to talk to. Valerie isn’t keen on the idea that it was Kirby. Theo says she was understanding and Valerie asks what he told her. Theo admits he told her about Valerie’s brother. Valerie isn’t happy, pointing out not even Leah knows about that. Later, Theo arrives home to find Valerie packing. She thinks she can’t stay there now and that Kirby will tell Justin and Leah about the pills. Theo insists she won’t and that no-one’s going to kick Valerie out, asking her to stay and talk.
Dana is settling Maia at the hospital as Roo turns up. Dana tells her about Rose trying to get Tane to leave and him refusing until she came back with back-up, confirming that he’s at the police station now. She feels bad for telling Tane about Maia being ill. Meanwhile, Rose and Erikson arrive back at the police station with Tane. Rose tells Erikson to leave them alone. Tane insists that Maia needs him but Rose replies that this isn’t about Maia, it’s about him.
Leah and Justin arrive at the Diner, with Justin suggesting a buffet for the reception but Leah preferring a sit-down meal. Justin says he’ll try and find a venue that can do that. Leah and Irene discuss Felicity’s fundraiser and agree to donate a gourmet hamper. Marilyn arrives, closely followed by John, who tells them he passed his celebrant’s course with a high distinction. He offers to show them the video of his ceremony. Leah quickly ducks out leaving Justin to deal with him. Later, John comments on how long the vows go on for before showing Justin his closing speech. Justin acknowledges that John’s a natural. John asks him if he’s changed his mind and Justin says he’ll have to speak to Leah. John thinks he’s in.
Rose tells Tane he isn’t allowed within 100m of the hospital or the baby and faces arrest and prison if he breaks the AVO. Roo arrives to hear the last bit and protests that everything Tane has done is for the baby. She says she’s going to get the AVO dropped but Rose says it’s done. Tane signs the paperwork and leaves. Rose tells Roo to keep an eye on him. Roo follows Tane back to the Bay, telling him she’ll get him a lawyer but for now he has to do as Rose said. Tane asks why he’s being treated like the bad guy.
Theo tells Valerie she can trust him and doesn’t have to leave. Leah arrives home in time to hear the last bit and wonders what’s going on. She notes Theo has TAFE work to do and suggests she and Valerie go for a walk. Theo says he’ll be there when she gets back. Leah and Valerie walk on the beach with Leah wondering what the argument is about, wondering if maybe Valerie’s breakthrough has changed things between them. Valerie goes along with that but thinks Leah isn’t happy about her being with Theo, describing herself as a mess, and thinks they’ll choose Theo if things go wrong between them. Leah reminds Valerie she was there for her without judgement and says she’ll always be welcome.
Dana is looking after Maia when Rose comes back. Dana makes it clear she’s unhappy about what Rose did. Rose says Dana shouldn’t tell Tane anything about the baby because he needs to stay away. Dana says she’s made mistakes but so has Rose. In the garage at the surf club, Roo tells Alf she’s not sure Tane’s listening to anyone. Tane comes past and Alf stops him, telling him he needs to keep his head down or he’ll mess up his residency application and being Maia’s foster carer. Tane walks away and Alf isn’t sure if he listened. Roo thinks there has to be something else they can do.
Irene and John carry things to the coffee cart, with John convinced Justin and Leah will change their mind. Dana appears and John tells her Justin loved the video and he got a high distinction. Irene warns Dana not to give John too big a head but Dana says sometime it’s good to back yourself and John agrees. Meanwhile, Theo finds Valerie in the park. He tells her he’ll do anything he needs to in order to convince her to trust him again. Valerie produces two pills and says they should take one each, so she knows they’re in it together. Theo does so but doesn’t look happy. Elsewhere, Alf and Roo run into Tane again near the surf club. Tane apologises for being short with them before. Roo tells him that she’s e-mailed the department to officially apply to be Maia’s emergency foster carer.
At the Morgan house, Justin tries to strike up a wedding conversation with Leah again, saying he’s found some ideas on the internet for writing their vows. Leah isn’t impressed, saying vows have to be deep and personal and Justin has no experience. As they are arguing, with Justin getting frustrated that Leah rejects every suggestion he makes, John turns up, trying to get an answer about being a celebrant. With Leah saying they already settled that and John pressing the matter, Justin ends up losing his temper and shouting at John that they don’t want him to marry them. John leaves hurt, and Leah is unhappy with Justin.
At the Diner, Irene and Marilyn watch a hangdog John watching his wedding video. Irene suggests rock-paper-scissors to see who talks to him but Marilyn volunteers. She tells John that Justin was right about him being a natural, reminding him of the speech he made at Jett’s wedding and offering to watch the video with him.
Back at the Morgan house, Leah tells Justin that John didn’t deserve that. Justin tells her he could have used some back-up and Leah says he was too harsh. Justin says he’ll fix it but they need to focus on the wedding. Leah says they’re supposed to be planning the happiest day of their lives but all they’ve done is argue.
