Theo’s holding out on Valerie. Harper and Dana clash. Cash scopes out Stevie’s body of work.
Extended Summary
Justin and Theo have just finished a surf. Justin tries to make small talk before leaving Theo alone as Valerie approaches. Theo asks how she is and Valerie says she didn’t get any sleep. Theo says he wants to help her but is still reluctant to give her any pills. At the Diner, Dana is disgruntled that Harper is trying to get her to do some exercise to take her mind off things and still feels bad about messing things up for Tane. She asks if there are any updates on the baby. Harper thinks she’s changing the subject but says there’s nothing, although she’s hoping the mother saw the appeal. Dana thinks it might be best if she didn’t and says the two of them would have been better off being left on the beach.
Cash arrives home and Felicity tries to quiz him about his job. Cash says she’s as bad as Eden and it was a straightforward shift. Felicity says she follows Stevie on social media and thought she’d see Cash on there. Cash says he told her to stay off it. Felicity suggests it’s Cash’s job to know everything about his client. Cash says only what’s important and Felicity wonders how he knows what’s important, before going off to Salt.
At the Morgan house, Justin cosies up to Leah but she says they have to go out. Theo and Valerie arrive home and Valerie tries to go to her room. Leah asks her if she’s thought anymore about what they discussed. Valerie says she wasn’t getting anything out of the clinic by the end. Leah and Justin leave and Theo notes Valerie never told him she discharged herself from the clinic. Valerie says she needs something to distract her.
Leah and Justin arrive at Salt where Leah asks to speak to Xander about his offer to help with the wedding. Felicity gives Xander free time to talk to the pair. Meanwhile, Theo and Valerie are walking with Theo suggesting they go to a movie in Yabbie Creek. However, Valerie has changed her mind and doesn’t think this will work. Kirby appears and says they got off on the wrong foot, suggesting they have coffee together. Instead, Valerie rushes off home and Theo apologises before going after her.
Harper and Dana arrive at the surf club, still involved in a heated discussion. Dana insists some people are better off without their parents while Harper accuses her of letting their past colour her opinion of others. Dana says their parents were irresponsible. Harper says they were addicts and Dana doesn’t know Maia’s mother’s situation. Cash enters as Harper says her job has taught her people get scared and desperate and Dana retorts it’s taught her to normalise and enable selfish behaviour. Harper walks out with Cash following.
Cash and Harper walk through a park area with him noting he’s never seen her and Dana argue like that before. Harper admits they do sometimes. She tries changing the subject by asking Cash about his job and is equally excited to hear he’s working for Stevie Marlow, recalling something she did with her dress at a premiere. Meanwhile, Dana has retreated to Salt and is confiding in Xander about her falling out with Harper and the fact their parents were never there for them. Xander says Dana and Harper seem to look out for each other and they’re lucky to have that.
Theo and Valerie arrive home where Valerie immediately starts searching Theo’s bag for pills, then checking his guitar case. Theo says she’s not going to find anything. Valerie tries to say she’ll go back to the clinic if he gives her a pill, and reminds him he wanted the pills for his interview. Theo refuses to take responsibility and Valerie admits she’s broke, hence why her card was declined.
Harper arrives at the hospital and finds Dana in with Maia. They both apologise for what they said before Dana wonders how they’ve both ended up in there on their day off. Harper says it shows Maia’s the most important thing. She accepts Dana has the right to still be angry at their parents. Dana says she hasn’t forgotten that Harper looked out for her. Looking down at Maia, she notes she can’t imagine not having anyone.
Theo finds Valerie searching through drawers for money and calls it stealing. Valerie tries to justify it by saying she was going to pay it back. Theo asks what’s going through her head. Valerie says that, at Josh’s funeral, her mother said she always knew Valerie would ruin their lives and her father wouldn’t even look at her. Theo agrees to give her a pill.
Not long after, Valerie is dancing about near the beach while Theo watches. Kirby comes along and Valerie, now a lot more hyper and friendly, apologises for being mean to her before and suggests they get the coffee now. Kirby declines and Valerie dances away. Theo says he hasn’t taken anything but Kirby notes it’s obvious Valerie has. Justin watches from a distance as Theo and Kirby argue and Theo tells Kirby to stay out of it.
That evening, Cash and Felicity are sitting down together to watch Death Throes, although Cash isn’t entirely convinced it will help. He is even less keen when the film opens with shots of an old house and Stevie’s character screaming at the window, pointing out it’s starting on a dark and stormy night. Felicity warns him not to talk and Cash warns her he’ll probably be asleep in five minutes.
Later, they continue to watch as Stevie’s character explores the house nervously. Cash jumps at a noise in the film and complains about cats appearing out of nowhere, but also wonders why Stevie’s character Miranda doesn’t know who the killer is when it’s clearly a revenge scenario. They watch as Miranda discovers a body and is menaced by a man wearing a mask. They see the number 2346 written in blood on the wall and Cash gets Felicity to pause it, saying he’s seen the numbers before.
Leah and Justin arrive home and Theo says Valerie’s gone to bed. Leah wants to check on her but Theo says she’s asleep. Justin notes he saw them with Kirby before. Theo tries to go to bed but Justin railroads him into having a cup of tea with them and discussing wedding plans. Later, Leah goes to bed but Justin insists Theo stay, wondering why he was arguing with Kirby and saying he’s gong to find out what Theo’s hiding eventually.
Cash gets a file through from his boss on his laptop. He and Felicity look at scans of the photos of a sleeping Kirby, which has the same number written on the back. Cash asks what the numbers mean in the movie. Felicity says it’s the time when the murders happen. Cash concludes it’s a time of death.
