Extended Summary

Irene, Rose, Harper and Dana are sat on the veranda at the Diner. Rose admits that there’s been no luck chasing up any leads: They found two Poppys registered in the last three months but they’re both safely at home with their families. Dana thinks this means Maia’s mother didn’t register her but Rose points out that they don’t even know if Poppy is really her name. Harper recalls her and Dana visiting Maia and that the nurses think she’s missing Tane. Irene says Roo’s stepped up. She and Rose head off, while Dana feels guilty.

At the Morgan house, Justin presses Theo to tell him what’s going on. Theo reveals that he and Valerie are together and Kirby knows, so she’s probably jealous. He turns down Justin’s offer to talk to Kirby, saying it would make things awkward. Theo heads off to bed and Justin goes to see Leah, who’s reading in the bedroom, and tells her Theo and Valerie are a thing. He thinks she could be good for Theo. Leah agrees and thinks Theo’s good for her too, saying her and Justin’s love thing must be catching. Justin looks a bit less certain when he turns away.

Next morning, Cash runs into Rose outside the surf club. She has heard about him working for Stevie Marlow and admits she was scared for days after watching Death Throes. She asks if there’s going to be a sequel; Cash points out they killed the bad guy and Rose says that never matters in a successful franchise. Nearby, Valerie approaches Theo, commenting she could use a pick-me-up but that’s out of the question. Theo admits Justin and Leah know about them, explaining about Justin seeing him arguing with Kirby and having to give him something. Valerie isn’t happy.

At the coffee cart, Leah tells Irene she’s thinking of getting Salt to cater for the wedding and just wants something simple and low-key for the venue. A nervous Valerie approaches and Leah jokes that she didn’t recognise her without Theo next to her. Valerie asks to talk.

Theo arrives home and Justin presents him with breakfast, saying Theo did a good job getting the engagement ring so he wants him to be his best man. Theo points out Justin has a brother for that. Justin says Brody has a kid and a business to run, and he needs someone who’s there. Theo says he’d be honoured.

At the surf club, Rose is cataloguing the latest set of donations. Harper and Dana join her and Rose says there’s been no clues since the bracelet. Dana says it would help to have a police officer there full time but Rose says they don’t have the resources. Harper invites Rose to join them for a coffee upstairs. Dana declines to go with them, saying she has things to do.

Cash arrives at the hotel to find Stevie on the phone and trying on a red carpet-style dress. She gets Cash to help her out of it, letting it drop to the floor and going to put on a robe. Cash says he’s been doing research and Stevie jokingly asks if he knows who Lily Stevens is taking to the premiere. Cash gets the file she showed him and shows her the number, saying it’s the time Miranda killed the murderer in Death Throes. Stevie realises he’s right and wonders if it’s all to do with the film.

Down on the beach, Leah talks to Valerie about her seeing Theo. Valerie says she’ll break up with him if Leah wants her to. Leah says that they’re both adults and she thinks they’ll be good for each other. Valerie is surprised but agrees, saying Theo looks out for her and makes her feel safe. Leah says this is a big change though and suggests she makes an appointment at the clinic

Cash quizzes Stevie (now dressed in casual clothes) over whether there’s been any other strange incidents going on with the film. Stevie says her co-star Crystal, who played Jade in the movie, was killed a month ago. Cash is aghast that no-one’s told him that before. Stevie thought it was well known, saying the police considered it an accident but the coroner’s inquest is ongoing. Cash asks for details.

Justin asks Theo about Charlton House in Yabbie Creek as a venue. Theo wonders if he has enough mates to fill it. Leah and Valerie arrive back and Valerie gives Theo a kiss on the cheek, then a proper kiss with encouragement from Leah. Leah asks if Valerie’s thought more about their chat and Valerie says she’ll call the clinic now.

Harper and Rose come downstairs and see Dana sat taking notes. A woman drops off a donation at the table and Dana surreptitiously photographs her. Harper and Rose approach her, asking if she has permission to take photos there and saying she could get kicked out. Dana says she’s been writing down descriptions of everyone who makes a donation. Harper points out Dana can’t be there all the time and Rose says the best thing she can do is care for Maia.

Justin admits to Leah that he asked Theo (who is listening to headphones nearby) to be his best man without consulting her. Leah is delighted, calling them two of her favourite men. Valerie reappears and says she’s made an appointment at the clinic for that afternoon. Theo offers to drive her. He takes her into his room and congratulates her on putting the hard work in, suggesting they stop for dinner on the way back. Valerie admits she lied and there is no appointment, walking out.

Cash watches Death Throes on his phone, seeing Stevie and Crystal’s characters hiding together, with Jade apparently injured. He asks Stevie about her. She says Crystal was her best friend; they trained together and celebrated being in the same movie. She says despite what the tabloids say, Crystal wasn’t depressed and didn’t do drugs. Cash wonders if someone could have pushed her off the cliff. He expresses his condolences and Stevie notes no-one has said that before. She says she’ll need his suit measurements for a tux to accompany her to the premiere.

Leah is rejecting Justin’s suggestions for a venue, insisting she wants something simpler. They ask Theo and Valerie if they have time for a coffee before going to the clinic and Valerie says they do. Once Leah and Justin are out of earshot, Theo asks Valerie why she can’t just tell Leah that she thinks therapy doesn’t work. Valerie says she needs Leah to trust her and warns Theo not to do anything to jeopardise that.

Stevie is taking Cash’s measurements and relaying them over the phone, reminding him he refused to let a tailor in there. There’s a knock at the door and Stevie says she’s not expecting anyone since Cash wouldn’t allow her a hair and make-up artist. He opens it to find a box outside the door with no-one in sight. The label says it’s from her agency but he tells her to call and check.

Rose, Harper and Dana walk outside the surf club. Rose admits she’s back to square one on the investigation and Harper admits she’s had no luck with foster carers. They assure Dana they’re not giving up and her looking after Maia is important. At the Diner, Valerie announces it’s time for her and Theo to hit the road. Irene gives them some takeaway, having been filled in by Leah on them being together. After the pair have gone, Justin asks Leah about her bridal party. Leah says she’s not going to have one, reiterating that she wants something simple.

Stevie gets off the phone and says the agency forwarded it but don’t know where it came from. Cash slowly opens the box to find a teddy bear in a football kit inside. Stevie calls it creepy but not dangerous, while the teddy apparently takes a camera image of them.
