Extended Summary

Xander and Bree finish a surf on the beach, noting it was easier to meet up when they lived together. Xander gets a text from Felicity telling him to run Salt tonight, which pleases him. Bree notes she has to work. Mali comes along and is somewhat standoffish with Xander. Xander apologises for what he said before. Mali accepts but says he has grommets to torture. Later, Xander approaches Mali at the surf club and offers him a free coffee at Salt. Mali comments on him giving away Mackenzie’s caffeine and declines.

Cash gets off the phone to the anti-corruption commission and tells Rose that they can’t open a case against Madden until he speaks to them, and even if he gets the evidence to them now, it’ll be too late to help Dana. He goes to the room where Irene and Harper are waiting and admits the lack of progress. At the warehouse, Madden tells Fletcher to go and join the search and make sure they keep away from here. Dana tells him that Cash will make sure he’s caught but Madden is convinced everyone will believe that she got tired of lying and being on the run and ended it all with the drugs she stole. He says she should have taken the rap like she was supposed to. Dana offers to plead guilty but Madden says it’s too late and injects her with the drugs.

Rose tells Cash the phone has been traced and they have an address. Cash mobilises the officers at the station, telling Irene and Harper to stay behind. As Dana loses consciousness behind him, Madden chisels the message “Forgive me” into a bench. He unties her and wipes the chisel, drug bottle and syringe of prints, placing each in Dana’s hand. Police cars pull up outside and officers rush in to find Madden bent over Dana, claiming he found her like this. Cash and Rose take over checking on her and Cash says to phone an ambulance.

Some time later, Paramedic Jo loads Dana into an ambulance: She still hasn’t come round. Rose goes with her. Inside, Madden is organising a forensics team collecting all the evidence he manufactured. Cash quietly tells him he won’t get away with this and Madden feigns ignorance. At the hospital, Jo hands Dana over to Bree. Irene and Harper arrive, with Harper insisting it’s not a drug overdose. She is convinced to wait outside.

Xander greets Mali at Salt, and Mali explains he’s there to meet Rose. However, he promptly gets a text from her saying she’s caught up at work. He decides to stay and eat, inviting Xander to take a break and join him. At the hospital, Bree directs hospital staff in ventilating Dana and giving her naloxone. Rose is filling Irene and Harper in on what happened. Bree tells them they’re waiting on blood results and lets Harper in to see Dana. Dana starts stirring and Harper calls out. Bree tells Dana where she is and Dana recognises Harper.

Madden is finishing off his report at the station. Cash asks him how he knew where Dana was. Madden says it was a hunch, explaining about it being the hideout of a drug associate of hers and that he didn’t call an ambulance because he’d only just found her. As he’s about to leave, Cash gets a text and tells Madden that Dana’s regained consciousness. There is a long pause before Madden says he’ll go and take her statement. Cash shows him Rose’s text, saying Dana has said Madden tried to kill her. Despite Madden continuing to feign innocence and saying she’s not a credible witness, Cash arrests him for attempted murder.

Bree says there was a lot of drug in Dana’s system. Harper defensively says she didn’t take it, and Bree explains she just meant it took a lot to counteract it. Rose says she’ll arrange for a police officer to stay, reminding them that technically there’s still a warrant out for Dana’s arrest. Cash arrives and adds that Fletcher is still at large. Harper thanks him for his help. Rose offers to take Irene home, seeming rather subdued.

Xander comments that it sounds like Mali was a third wheel. Mali says they all felt like that at one time or another: Samuel’s a great guy with interesting stories but they don’t really know him, although Mali’s convinced he and Rose will connect eventually. Rose turns up at that point and says they put a really bad guy behind bars today, but it’s complicated and she’s not celebrating just yet.

Next morning, Rose goes to see Cash at the station with coffee. Fletcher is brought through in handcuffs. Cash identifies him as Detective Stuart Fletcher, Madden’s partner, and says he was arrested late last night. He also has a meeting with the anti-corruption commission. Rose takes him aside and criticises him for all the rules he broke. Cash says he was right. Rose suggests Dana wouldn’t have nearly died if he’d brought her into custody, and Cash argues it might have just led to Madden getting his hands on her sooner, saying he sees it as a win. Rose says she hopes his superiors agree with him.

At the Diner, Bree tells Irene and Harper that Dana might be able to go home today. Rose comes in and is also thanked for her work. Harper wonders when the charges against Dana will be dropped. However, Rose has a go at Harper for involving Cash, saying she could have got him into trouble. Irene tries to calm things as Harper leaves. Irene asks Rose if that was necessary. Rose leaves without answering.

At the surf club, Xander celebrates with Mali that he’s got another day of being the boss. He then gets a message from Mackenzie asking if everything’s ready for tonight. He is puzzled until he realises he missed an e-mail from her last week about a hens night: He has to organise cocktails, music and food for then.

Irene goes up to the flat and tells Rose she was pretty harsh. Rose is apologetic but says she’s worried about Cash and about the rest of them as well for hindering a police investigation. Irene is aghast that the police might still come after them.
