Extended Summary

Tane and Felicity are walking by the beach, discussing the offer they’ve put in. Tane thinks they should just get on with their lives until they hear something, since they won’t start building any time soon. However, Felicity wants an answer now and dreams of taking a caravan or tent to their new land. She recalls she always refused when Gary took Cash camping but with him she could make it work.

At the police station, Cash, Harper and Irene all continue to worry about Dana’s whereabouts. Cash says Despatch have no record of Madden making the arrest and no-one knows who the detective with him was, since they didn’t get a name. Cash suggests Madden might have taken Dana to the city. He sends Irene and Harper to wait in the interview room while he calls someone asking to speak to the duty officer.

John runs into Rose at the surf club and she tells him she’s been out of town visiting Samuel. He asks why she hasn’t liked the photos of the committee’s team bonding. Rose says she doesn’t really do social media, before heading off to take coffees to the station. Tane and Felicity come in, discussing building a holiday home. John tries to offer them his experience of the property market, saying he’s heard horror stories, but Felicity says they’re only interested in positive news at the moment.

Cash tells Irene and Harper that Madden’s area command don’t know anything about the arrest but he’s told them a country cop’s interfering, so they won’t track his car or tell Cash who was with him. Harper wonders if he would actually hurt Dana. Rose turns up. Cash introduces her to Harper and explains about Dana being arrested and going missing.

John follows Tane and Felicity up to Salt, trying to give them advice again and saying they need to have room to build when their family expands. They explain it’s just land and John warns them about getting into a lifetime of debt. John asks if this is fuelled by baby plans. Felicity says when she gets pregnant, she’ll let him know and send him a test. Tane looks pleased and says he’s impressed at her putting John in his box. At the station, Cash has filled in Rose, who is astonished he knew where Dana was. Cash reminds her that Dana disappeared as soon as she showed her face and they have to find her.

Madden and Fletcher take Dana to a warehouse and chain her to a chair. Madden says it’s the hang-out of a drug dealer who was arrested around the time of her charge. Dana says she hasn’t done drugs in years and Madden says no-one will believe that. He quietly tells Fletcher to wait until he’s established his alibi. He heads to the police station where Harper and Cash both quickly asks where Dana is. Cash ushers Harper and Irene out, saying he can’t do what he has to while she’s there. Madden announces that Dana’s escaped and asks for a map of the bush. Rose shows him.

Irene and Harper walk through a park area. Harper is now very worried that Madden is going to do something to Dana. Irene tells her to trust Cash. Meanwhile, Tane goes to see Felicity at Salt and says he’s heard from the real estate agent. She worries that it’s bad news but Tane says their offer has been accepted, although there’s a cooling off period.

Madden wants a dog team and Rose says she’ll have to contact the sergeant. Cash asks Madden about his partner and Madden says Fletcher’s searching where Dana was last seen. Cash asks why he didn’t call it in straight away and is unconvinced by his story that Dana escaped while they were changing a tyre. Madden tells him he’s benched. Rose quietly agrees with Cash that Madden is dodgy but they have no proof and the sergeant says to give Madden what he wants. Madden surreptitiously types a message on his phone.

Fletcher gets the message at the warehouse: “Do it now.” He produces some gloves and a syringe from a bag and tells Dana she’s going to write a note to Harper. As soon as she’s untied, she kicks him in the groin and bashes him over the head with a chair. However, she’s unable to get out of the locked warehouse.

Madden sends out search parties. Cash tells Rose he’s probably sending them in the wrong direction. Madden comments on Cash wearing dress uniform and rhetorically asks if he has a meeting. After he’s gone, Cash tells Rose that’s why Madden made his move now: Because he had to finish it before anti-corruption started looking into him. Meanwhile, Dana tries and fails to force the door. After searching Fletcher, she hears his phone get another message from Madden: “Is it done?”

Tane and Felicity arrive home, both still buoyed at the idea of owning land. Felicity says she loves their life and can’t wait to see where they go next. She says she’ll call Xander and say she can’t come in because she wants to celebrate. At the coffee cart, Harper wants to call Cash but Irene advises her that he’d have called if he had anything to tell them.

Dana tries to unlock Fletcher’s phone, using his badge and driving license numbers and only succeeding in running out of attempts, but eventually uses facial recognition. She calls Harper, who answers as Dana’s quietly begging her to pick up. Fletcher then grabs Dana from behind and the call disconnects. Fletcher calls Madden, saying they have a problem.

At the police station, Harper and Irene tell Cash and Rose about the call, which Harper is convinced was from Dana. Rose arranges to trace the call, then realises Madden is missing. At the warehouse, Madden berates Fletcher for letting her make the call; Dana is tied up again. Fletcher says Madden told him he could easy money and he didn’t sign up for this. Madden says he’ll do it himself. Dana says people will be able to tell she was tied up. Madden replies that he’ll make sure that detail’s missing from the coroner’s report, just like he made the CCTV footage disappear.
