Can Eden trust Cash? Dana risks blowing her own cover. Rose traces her roots.

Extended Summary

Cash and Eden have just finished a swim. Eden is preoccupied with Kirby but ignores a phone call from her despite saying she wants answers. John appears and asks Cash about Harper. This is the first Eden has heard of her. At the beach house, Irene notices Harper has made a large amount of sandwiches, apparently all for herself, for breakfast. She says her goodbyes and, after making sure Irene has gone, Harper calls for Dana to come out of hiding. Dana wonders when they’re going to hear from Cash. Harper says she’ll text him after breakfast.

At the Diner flat, Xander is eating breakfast on his own and gets up as soon as Rose sits down next to him. Rose says that she understand it’s a lot for Xander to get his head around and claims there’s been no progress. Mali turns up and asks if Rose has given Xander an update. Rose quickly repeats her earlier claim and Xander leaves. Rose tells Mali she isn’t sure what she’s going to do. Downstairs, Irene serves a distracted Xander. John comes in and Irene says she hasn’t been murdered in her bed, as he was probably worrying. John uses his coffee card.

Cash and Eden walk near the Lyrik house. Eden notes that Remi seems to have moved on already but she still hasn’t come to terms with what Kirby’s done. Cash gets a text from Harper and has to hurry away. Eden goes to the surf club and questions John about Harper. John admits they didn’t hit it off and tells her about Harper acting oddly around the police officers but says she seems comfortable around Cash. He also mentions she’s staying with Irene.

Dana is searching through a bag in the bedroom. Harper appears with a phone and asks if she was looking for that, saying they ditched Dana’s phone so she couldn’t be tracked. Dana wants to phone Olly, refusing to believe he’s abandoned her and convinced there must be a reason he lied. Their argument is halted by the arrival of Cash at the back door. Harper ushers Dana into hiding before telling Cash they should go for a walk.

As they walk near the beach, Cash says he’s spoken to the local LAC about Dana’s case but they haven’t got back to him. He says he’d be the same if it was his sister. Harper checks he hasn’t spoken to anyone else. As she walks away, Eden approaches Cash and guesses that was Harper. She asks what’s going on.

Irene serves Mali at the Diner, commenting on the fact both Xander and Rose seem to have things on their mind. Mali joins Rose who admits she’s not sure about looking for Samuel. Mali says it didn’t look like he was much older than her mother and it’s her choice. Meanwhile, Harper arrives back at the beach house and tells Dana that Cash is still waiting on the case file and isn’t sure how long it will take. However, she promises he’ll sort it.

At Salt, Eden tries to quiz Cash about Harper, mentioning what John said. Cash is vague about what he’s doing with Harper and asks for her to just support him. He walks out and Eden comments to Xander that she thinks she’s been told. Meanwhile, Irene comes back to the beach house for her charger. She hears the shower running so is shocked when Harper emerges from the bedroom. Harper says she had to let the shower run to get hot water where she lived before and promises not to do it again.

At the police station, Rose goes to a computer and looks up Samuel Edwards. She goes through several IDs until she finds a picture that matches the man in the photo. She looks up his details and finds a marriage certificate. Cash appears and asks what she’s doing, noting it’s not like her to break the rules. Rose explains what she found, including that Samuel was born in Cape Town, meaning she could be half South African, and was married when she was conceived. Cash agrees to keep quiet about it and to cover while she goes to call her mum. In a park area, Rose calls Yvette and asks if the name Samuel Edwards means anything to her. It’s clear Yvette isn’t giving her the answers she wants.

Eden vists Cash to present him with some apology doughnuts. She also explains that she will talk to Kirby eventually but isn’t ready yet. Cash offers her one of the doughnuts before she leaves. He makes a phone call about the case file and is puzzled that the other person seems to have a problem with a police officer requesting a police file. Later, he goes to see Harper again and tells her that someone isn’t co-operating. Dana listens at the door. As Cash leaves, Dana notices a phone and tries to send a text to Olly. Harper catches her and is furious.

At the surf club, Rose tells Mali that her mum hung up on her as soon as she mentioned Samuel’s name. She notes that her father cheating on his wife with one of his students isn’t a great story but her gut tells her it’s true. She is also pleased to have answers. Xander appears and says Yvette called him, upset. Rose notes Yvette will talk to Xander but not her, and reminds him he wanted her kept in the loop. She says she can’t deal with this and leaves. Aware Mali is looking at him, Xander says it’s none of his business. Mali says it isn’t Xander or his mum’s either, and Rose doesn’t feel able to share what she’s found with him.

Xander tracks Rose down to near the beach and apologises. Rose tells him about Samuel, that he was their mum’s lecturer and born in South Africa. Xander agrees that’s massive. Rose says she used to keep a journal with a list of all the countries she could come from and has always been curious about the other side of her family. Xander asks what she’s going to do.
