Extended Summary

Remi catches up to Bree as she is walking beside the road: She has the next two days off. Before they can get too far into the question of what they’re going to do, Mercedes pulls up on her bike and announces she’s got hold of the phone number of Rueben Phillips, a top record producer who likes to foster new talent and who was at the Battle of the Bands. She thinks they should get straight onto it and Bree tells Remi to go. Mercedes hands Remi a helmet and says he can drive. Bree is clearly not happy.

At the Lyrik house, Eden checks her phone and finds Cash hasn’t responded to a text she sent. Remi and Mercedes arrive home, with Remi surprised that, despite him calling a meeting, Eden is on her way out: She says Kirby has work and Theo has family stuff. Remi and Mercedes explain the situation, with Remi convinced he can explain to Rueben why they dropped out of the competition. Eden rather offhandedly wishes them good luck.

Cash is getting awkward looks from other officers at the police station. Eden turns up and asks how things are going. Cash says there’s no new leads from Felicity viewing the footage. He checks the forensics report and learns they have the attacker’s DNA and are going to do a search of the database. Later, Eden convinces him to leave work at the end of his shift, saying his sergeant will let him know about the results.

At the Diner, Bree asks Alf how Roo is. Irene turns up with John, who has just got out of hospital. Bree checks someone is coming to stay with him. John thinks he’ll be fine but Irene insists he comes and stays with her. John chats to Alf about the surf club and Roo, as they reflect on how Marilyn must be blaming herself. Bree goes round to the Lyrik house where she finds Remi on the phone in the garden with Mercedes listening in. He is unable to get past Rueben’s PA. Bree suggests thinking outside the box. Mercedes isn’t happy with her input but Remi agrees.

Cash and Eden arrive at the surf club with Cash in a rather distracted mood. Alf comes over and asks Cash what’s going on with Stunning Organics. Cash says the police have caught the bomber and the case is closed. Alf complains that they’re still in business and Cash says he’ll have to talk to Fair Trading. When Alf pushes the point, Cash shouts that the police don’t waste their time investigating crimes that are already solved.

Remi makes a failed attempt to get through to Rueben by trying to convince his PA that he’s from his bank. Bree suggests that in her world, if someone wants a job, they send a CV and a nice letter. She then recalls an intern getting a job by sending cupcakes. Mercedes reluctantly suggests whiskey as an alternative but Remi thinks the PA would just drink it herself. Mercedes suddenly says she’s got an idea and to leave it to her.

Irene shows John into the beach house, saying she’s put him in the downstairs bedroom so he doesn’t have to use the stairs. She offers to clear out a drawer but John says he’ll only be there a couple of days. Irene asks if there’s anything he wants her to put on the shopping list for tomorrow. John is worried about putting her out. Irene points out she invited him there and says she did it because he’s her friend.

At the Lyrik house, Bree asks Remi how lame her cupcake idea was and he says seven or eight out of ten. Mercedes turns up and reveals she found out Rueben’s PA works as a DJ. She went to her set, befriended her and got them a meeting tomorrow. Remi says he’ll let the others know but Mercedes thinks they should handle it themselves. Both Bree and Remi aren’t keen on the idea but Mercedes talks Remi round, saying Eden’s got other things on and Theo and Kirby are still rocky.

Cash and Eden are sharing a drink at Salt. Cash says he’ll apologise to Alf. Eden realises he’s desperate to catch Felicity’s attacker and says he just needs to support her. Cash gets a text from forensics saying there’s no match. Later, Cash wonders how he’s going to tell Felicity. Eden says that sometimes terrible things happen without justice and he’s not going to be able to fix this for her.

Alf is pottering around the surf club when Cash and Eden come down. Cash goes over and apologises. Alf has listened to what Cash said and understands there’s nothing the police can do. Cash can understand not being able to do something about the people who’ve hurt your family. Meanwhile, Irene has prepared dinner. John, who has just been in the shower, comments on her fluffy towels and she says she washes them with vinegar and bicarb. She points out she’s had people stay there before and John’s one of the oldest “strays” she’s had. Relaxing, John asks for a particular brand of salt and vinegar crisps, a doona for the bed, and tomato sauce…which was already on the table.

Next morning, Cash and Eden are outside the Parata house, preparing to go away. Bree comes over and asks Eden about Mercedes, wondering if she still doesn’t trust her. Eden says Mercedes is good for the band and she’ll work with her professionally, but Mercedes only looks out for herself. Bree goes across the road and finds Mercedes there, with Remi in the shower. Bree tells Mercedes to back off from Remi. Mercedes says she’s not trying to steal him from the band. Bree wasn’t thinking of that, saying if something was going to happen romantically between Mercedes and Remi, it would have happened. Mercedes says she doesn’t know what Remi sees in Bree, when they’ve nothing in common. Bree says they’re solid and Mercedes accuses her of getting antsy about a threat. Bree retorts that Mercedes isn’t a threat but a spoilt rich kid with a crush. Remi comes in and is puzzled by the tension. Mercedes leaves.

At the beach house, John is getting up and tells Irene he had a restful night. He takes a plate of toast from  her. Irene says she’s going into work. John says he’ll get dressed and go with her. Irene protests that he’s meant to be resting. John says she’ll be the one working and adds that he normally has more butter on his toast.

Remi catches up with Mercedes outside the house. She says she’s going back to the motel and seems happy to miss the meeting. She tells him about Bree telling her to back off. Remi asks her to give him a minute to sort it.
