Extended Summary

Remi is playing guitar outside the surf club with Bree looking on. The end of his set is greeted with a round of applause and he encourages the crowd to check out him and the rest of Lyrik at their next gig. A young woman comes over and says she’ll be there. Bree also joins Remi, as does Theo, who then gets a text from Justin about the decision being in.

Theo goes home and tells Leah and Justin he’ll be right with them. Leah goes to wait outside as Justin tells Theo that he appreciates his support but doesn’t want him coming to the court when it could end with him being dragged to a police van. He adds that he couldn’t be prouder of him.

Tane and Felicity approach the surf club with Felicity suggesting they should both quit their jobs and run off to a tropical island. Tane says that’s fine if they never need to eat or pay rent again. Bree and Remi come round the corner and Remi suggests they get breakfast together. They see Tane and Felicity kissing and Remi teasingly calls for them to get a room. Bree looks uncomfortable and changes her mind about breakfast.

Bree goes back to the flat where Rose is on the phone to Xander, telling him to listen to the “boring” therapist and that she hasn’t heard anything about Jamie’s funeral. Ringing off, she admits to Bree that Jamie’s funeral is later in the week but she thinks it’s too much for Xander to handle. Bree suggests that’s a big call for Rose to make. Rose quickly changes the subject and asks about Bree, who admits she’s confused.

Theo turns up at the Lyrik house looking for Kirby. Remi tells him she’s with Marilyn. Theo explains about Justin wanting him to stay away from court and wonders what he’s supposed to do. At the Diner, Alf tells Leah she and Justin have both got their support and Irene gives her a hug. Justin turns up and Irene says she’ll have his favourite burger waiting for him. Justin hopes he can take her up on that and thanks Alf for the character witness. He and Leah leave.

Tane is leading a class in an exercise work-out near the beach. A young man appears and quips that they’re not there to be tortured. Tane recognises the man as his cousin Kahu and delightedly asks what he’s doing there. Kahu reminds him he said to visit any time. Up at Salt, Tane approaches Felicity from behind. Felicity dreams of having the house to themselves after work, a plan quickly derailed when she notices Kahu is there as well, but she greets him warmly.

Leah and Justin exit the court house, with the judge’s verdict ringing in their ears: Justin has been sentenced to an eighteen month intensive cirrection order to be served in the community and is required to attend anger management counselling and do 500 hours of community service. If he doesn’t comply, he will be arrested and serve out the tenure in prison. Leah says it’s over and they should go home.

Down on the beach, Bree talks to Rose about seeing Remi flirting with other girls. Her main issue was how carefree he looked and how Bree misses feeling like that. She explains they haven’t been together since before Jacob took her and her head keeps getting in the way. She says Remi’s happy to take things slow but she wants to move past it.

Theo greets Justin and Leah on their return home, pleased to see Justin there. Justin says he called Ava on the way over. He apologises for putting them through it. Leah thinks they want to move past it. Theo says his community service wasn’t too bad. Justin says he’s not sure how he’s going to fit 500 hours in but he wants to learn from this and changed. Later, Leah and Justin go to the Diner and receive a warm welcome from Alf and Irene. Justin asks for the burger Irene promised.

Remi is strumming his guitar when Bree turns up. She says she wants them to be like they were before and it’s ironic that things felt easier when they were having an affair. She says she’s scared she’ll panic. Remi reassures her. She kisses him and then leads him to the bedroom, where they lie down on the bed. At the Parata house, Tane and Kahu reminisce about how Kahu used to come over to the family house when he was young and was like a brother to Tane. Kahu expresses surprise that Nikau moved away from there but Tane says it was the right thing for him and he’s happy. He and Felicity are perfectly happy for Kahu to stay. Kahu encourages Tane to grab his guitar and they play He Paru together.

Rose arrives home and finds a note from Bree saying thanks for the pep talk and she’s gone to see Remi. Rose smiles. Bree and Remi are curled up in bed together. Bree says she loves him. Remi says she’s never said that before but says he loves her too. Meanwhile, Tane apologises to Felicity for the change of plans but Felicity says she’s pleased for him to have family around. She falters a bit when Kahu starts playing loud music in his room. Tane reminds her that she invited a whole band to stay there. Kahu comes out briefly and encourages Tane to take tomorrow off. Tane also goes off to bed, leaving Felicity on her own, looking not entirely happy.

Next morning, Remi and Bree are greeted by Irene at the coffee court, with her referring to them as “lovebirds”. Bree says she has to go and get ready for work. Theo appears and Remi chats to him about Justin before saying they need to have a band meeting to get things back on track, trying to drag him away before he has coffee.

At the Parata house, Tane tries to reassure Felicity that Kahu won’t be there long. Felicity tries to act as though she doesn’t mind before admitting she was getting used to having him to herself. Kahu appears and Felicity offers to show him around the Bay. Kahu wants to spend time with Tane. Tane says he’ll be busy looking for a new trainer. Kahu says he’ll take the job. Tane looks intrigued. Felicity looks a bit rabbit-caught-in-the-headlights.
