Lyrik scores an unlikely band manager. An old flame reignites. Will Heather give Marilyn a second chance?

Extended Summary

Marilyn chases Heather through the caravan park, asking why she didn’t just introduce herself. Heather points out Marilyn abandoned her and left her growing up with a mother who hated the sight of her. She says everyone in Summer Bay thinks the sun shines out of her when she had a baby with a married man and left her behind. Marilyn claims she had no choice and asks Heather to listen to her side of it.

Near the surf club, Kirby rants to Theo about how Eden and Remi don’t understand how much work it takes to run the band. She tells him and a newly-arrived Justin that she’s quit the admin work. Eden appears and admits she got a migraine looking at the work they had to do. Justin offers to buy them drinks.

At the Diner, Alf says he never thought he’d be in a police station with Marilyn. Roo says she’s lucky Heather didn’t press charges and wonders if she lied about Bree giving her the all-clear. She tells Alf he needs to think about his business.

Up in Salt, Justin hands the drinks out as Kirby says they need a manager. Justin’s ears prick up at that and, when Eden says a manager would cost money, says they could get one that does it for mate’s rates. Kirby, oblivious to his comments, wonders who they could get. Eden gets a call from Felicity and leaves them.

Cash is at home and still in uniform. He has just sat down to watch television when Eden just walks in (despite him protesting that’s illegal) and declares they’re going out. He says he’s in the middle of a series but eventually agrees to go and get changed. They head to Salt where Eden briefly rejoins Theo and Kirby and says she votes for everything they agree to. She suggests getting a work experience person to do the manager’s job for free. Justin blurts out that he’d do it, saying he knows music and business. Theo thinks he should speak to Leah. Justin says he’ll do a pitch. Kirby agrees to a meeting and Eden says to text her the details. Theo wonders about her and Cash. Kirby hopes history doesn’t repeat itself. Justin asks when the meeting is.

Marilyn and Heather are sat in the caravan park. Marilyn says her relationship with Heather’s father was short and she thought he loved her. Heather says her mum told her Marilyn seduced him and couldn’t handle it when she got pregnant. Marilyn says Heather’s parents insisted they look after her and she was too young to fight them. Heather asks why she never sent her birthday cards or presents. Marilyn says they agreed she wouldn’t have any contact. Seeing Roo approaching, Heather walks away. Roo asks Marilyn if she’s upset Heather again.

At the Diner, Alf gets a call from Roo about the incident just before Marilyn walks in and asks her what’s going on. Marilyn first says Heather wanted to talk to her, then that she wanted to apologise to her. She refuses to explain any further so Alf says he can’t have her around the caravan park.

Roo and Heather are outside the caravan park house. Heather says Roo’s not to blame for what Marilyn’s done and dismisses her behaviour as crossed wires. Roo says Marilyn’s the best person she knows: Kind, loyal and honest. Heather repeats the last two terms quizzically. At the Lyrik house, Justin presents his pitch document to Theo and Kirby, the only ones who’ve turned up. He says he will be professional, dedicated, forthright and personable and printed the documents up as soon as he got home. Kirby tells him to go ahead and pitch. Justin says they need a vision of where they’re going.

Cash and Eden are drunkenly walking outside the surf club. Cash recalls Eden wanting him to kick a door down when she locked herself out and he found the key under the mat. He thanks her for not asking how he is. Eden says she got a free dinner and drinks out of it. Cash says he knows her better than most. Eden says things didn’t work out last time. Cash says they were in different places then and he doesn’t want to talk about it. Soon after, they are kissing back at the Parata house. Eden suggests it’s a bad idea and wonders about Felicity before they go to the bedroom.

Next morning, Heather meets Marilyn near the beach, having got a note from her. Marilyn says she didn’t get much sleep last night. She wishes she could say she tried to ring Heather and sent her cards but she didn’t. Heather isn’t sure if she believes Marilyn about her father. Marilyn insists she loved and wanted her and thought it was the best thing for her. She goes to walk away but Heather calls her back, saying maybe she had her wrong. Marilyn says she’s happy she got to meet her.

Eden gets breakfast off Cash and says last night was fun. She suggests they treat it as a one-off again. Cash agrees, noting Eden wouldn’t want to explain to Felicity exactly how she took care of him. He asks for his shirt back then repeats it in a firmer tone of voice when she doesn’t immediately comply, saying he has to get to the station.

Kirby tries to get Theo to agree to Justin as manager. Theo isn’t keen on having his aunt’s boyfriend and his boss around all the time. Kirby says they need help now since she’s already got three more e-mails about gigs. Theo agrees. Justin arrives home and Kirby tells him he’s now their manager and Remi and Eden don’t get a vote. Kirby says everything he needs is on the table and their fee for the Reefton Lakes wine bar gig is $800, not including travel. As they leave, Justin looks at their post-it note sheet with some concern.

Marilyn asks Heather what her plans are, suggesting she could rent the van long-term so they could get to know each other. Heather is keen and suggests a dinner so she could get to know Marilyn’s friends. Marilyn asks to keep it to themselves for now while they get used to it. Heather agrees but looks a lot less appreciative.

Justin makes a call about Lyrik’s gig, giving their fee but getting offered $400 including travel, not knowing anything about the lighting rig or cables needed or the insurance and eventually just agreeing to the client’s offer.
