Ziggy’s van search goes off road. Dean fears Ziggy is in unsafe hands. Marilyn comes clean.
Extended Summary
Ziggy and Remi are driving. He asks to turn the music down, suggesting they swap life stories and wondering how she got into cars. Ziggy says it’s not very interesting and turns the music back up. Remi turns it down just long enough to tell her that he got his first guitar at four because his parents wanted him to have something to do while they were on tour: His mum plays violin and his dad oboe in an orchestra. At Salt, Dean complains that he’s eaten everything on the menu several times and doesn’t fancy the specials. Mackenzie sarcastically suggests he wants something with baked beans, but when he starts talking about Ziggy and her supposed customer, she offers to get the chef to make him something.
Marilyn looks nervously at the numbers on the flyer. Roo arrives, having just seen off Alf for his week in Merimbula. She notices the missing numbers and says Alf told her Marilyn had something to say to her. Marilyn denies it and offers her a cake and muffin. She quietly tells Leah that she has to tell Roo something but is working up to it.
Leah meets up with Justin who says Theo isn’t joining them because he’s busy looking over his assignment: Ziggy hasn’t got back to him. Leah isn’t too concerned since Ziggy only got it last night and Theo’s doing what he said and keeping on top of both TAFE work and the band. Justin tries to call Ziggy but gets voicemail so they head off to lunch.
Marilyn brings Roo the biggest muffin they have before rather specifically saying she’d never intentionally hurt her. She says she has a confession to make and produces the number slips. Roo is confused as to why she took them. Marilyn says she thought if she took them, people would think Roo was in demand and start calling, admitting the plan was better in her head. Roo says she could handle rejection but this is humiliating and walks out, leaving the muffin.
At the band’s house, Eden and Kirby are revelling in their new home. Eden shows off that they have their own food in their own fridge. Kirby says it’s like Eden’s never lived in a house before. Eden replies that it’s been a long time since they had a house of their own and couch surfing is overrated. She shows off that they have an air fryer to cook breakfast. She calls out for Remi, and Kirby says he left early, leaving a note. Eden is surprised he’s out of bed this early.
Ziggy gives Remi a speech on strategy and the art of negotiating, saying they can’t be too positive, then realises he’s asleep. He insists he was just resting his eyes and recounts a vague version of what she just said. Ziggy says she’ll do the talking and Remi suggests she likes being in control. Ziggy is in the middle of denying it when she misses the turning.
At the surf club, Justin sends Leah upstairs while he talks to Dean, wondering where Ziggy is and saying she hasn’t given Theo feedback. Dean has a go at Justin for complaining when he’s made Ziggy meet a customer on her day off. Justin is utterly bemused, saying he hasn’t done that. He joins Leah up in Salt and says he may have just thrown Ziggy in it, explaining about her using him as cover with Dean. Dean storms up and asks Mackenzie’s opinion on Ziggy lying. Mackenzie suggests he call Ziggy rather than bothering her.
Ziggy and Remi pull up at a rundown property. A young man, Carl, greets them and shows off the van, saying he’s leaving the property so doesn’t need it anymore. Remi chats to him about using it for the band as Ziggy looks it over, rejecting a call from Dean. She asks Carl for the service history and he says he’s done it all himself. He’s happy for them to take it for a test drive and leave their car there. Ziggy says there’s no red flags yet.
Roo comes back and takes the flyer down, saying it’s obvious no-one’s interested. Marilyn suggests she advertise at the surf club since that’s where the young people hang out. After initially biting her head off, Roo listens as she suggests advertising at TAFE and uni and in the Coastal News, saying that’s helpful. Meanwhile, Dean tells Mackenzie that Ziggy isn’t answering his calls. Mackenzie still refuses to get involved. Leah and Justin quietly discuss the situation and get a message from Theo saying he hasn’t heard from Ziggy either. Ziggy and Remi return to the yard. Ziggy notes she looked at the engine and it needs new brake pads and work on the gear box. Carl knocks the price down to $3000 and Remi hands over the money. Carl says rego is in the glove box and he’ll e-mail the sale receipt. Ziggy gets a text from Dean.
At the surf club, Roo asks Dean if he knows anyone that would be interested in the tutoring, leaving him bemused. Leah and Justin come down and ask about Ziggy. Dean says he knows Ziggy stayed up to read the assignment. Leah wonders if something’s wrong and Dean says he’ll try calling her again. Ziggy is driving back and answers this time. She only gives Dean vague answers to where she is, even when he tells her what Justin said, then abruptly breaks off and flags down Remi, who is driving the van in front of her: There is smoke coming out of his exhaust, meaning the head gasket has blown. She says they’re going to get his money back.
Kirby suggests they discuss a budget for buying a van when Remi gets back. Eden admits they already did that without her and says it was just after they sorted the new rules. She checks Kirby is fine with it. Kirby snaps at her, then softens. At the Diner, Roo tells Marilyn she’s done all the new advertisements that she suggested. Marilyn adds that Roo will be busy at the bait shop as well. Roo thanks her for her encouragement and suggests they share the muffin.
Mackenzie joins Dean who tells him about Ziggy hanging up and not ringing back and that Justin and Theo haven’t heard from her either. Mackenzie admits she was helping Remi buy a van. They head back to the farm house where Dean calls out for Ziggy. He tells Mackenzie off for not telling him and is unhappy about Ziggy seeing Remi behind her back, saying he doesn’t trust the guy. He worries that Ziggy sounded stressed.
Carl is calling someone, saying they were supposed to pick him up fifteen minutes ago, and quickly hangs up when Ziggy and Remi appear. Remi demands the money back. Carl says it’s in the garage. He ushers them in, then says it’s in the house and locks them in. They hear him driving off in Ziggy’s car.
