Extended Summary
Tane hurries after Mia as she walks near the beach, telling her to wait up. Mia says she doesn’t want to talk about it and just wasn’t expecting the certificates. Tane tells her to forget about work but Mia says she needs to do it. Tane lets her go as Felicity approaches. After commenting on it seeming tense, she points out she’s given Tane space but hopes he can tell her where they stand. Mia goes to the gym and shuts herself away in the office. She sees the photo of herself and Ari on the desk and picks it up.
Outside the garage, Justin brings Theo a coffee but warns it might not be drinkable. He explains Leah’s trying to get Dimitri to give him another chance and that family’s important to her. Theo thinks Dimitri doesn’t care about him or Leah. Ziggy appears, happy that the Paratas’ crowdfunding has hit 5K. Theo throws the coffee away and walks back inside. Meanwhile, Roo is welcoming Marilyn back with a cup of tea outside the caravan park house. She says she found some biscuits down the back of the pantry and Marilyn notes she hid them there from Alf. They discuss Marilyn seeing Raffy, how gorgeous Brody’s baby is and what’s happened with Ari. Roo notes she’s too busy to think about Merimbula and hasn’t heard from Alf.
Tane joins Felicity at Salt with a drink. Felicity thinks he’s going to break up with her but Tane says he isn’t and tells her about the troubles with Nikau and Chloe, and Mia getting the certificates. He says recent events have taught him to live for the moment. Felicity asks if he’d really be fine with not having kids or marriage. Tane assures her he is and Felicity kisses him in delight. Tane heads down to the gym and finds Mia in the office. He tries to get her to talk to him. Mia says she misses Ari every moment of every day and unless he can stop that, he can’t help. She walks out.
Marilyn tells Roo that she’s got things in perspective and is hoping to get her life back. Roo thinks Irene will be glad to have her back at the Diner. Moments later, to their confusion, Alf pulls up. He and Marilyn have a brief reunion before he tells Roo that Martha isn’t all right. Later, Alf and Roo talk, with him explaining that Martha’s dialysis isn’t a long-term solution and she’s getting worse so he might have to stay at Merimbula for a while: He’s come back to put things in order and tell Roo in person. Roo wants to try and understand but Alf tells her just to accept it.
Theo is sweeping up at the garage as Justin and Ziggy discuss a part coming in tomorrow. Ziggy gets a text that Bella has invited Chloe and Nikau over again. Justin is surprised Dean puts up with it and Ziggy says he’s just looking out for Ari’s family. Theo snaps at her to stop organising her social calendar because he can’t finish until she does. Justin convinces Ziggy to go early, then invites Theo out for dinner. At Salt, Mia is drinking heavily and ignores Felicity’s suggestion of getting something to eat. Tane turns up and Felicity quietly tells him the situation. Tane tries to get Mia to leave without success. Felicity refuses to serve her and stops her grabbing the bottle. Tane tries to take Mia home but she insists she can do it herself, staggering out. She arrives back at the house and drops her bag. Heading into her room, she finds the certificates on the bed and folds them up, putting them in the box with Kauri’s things. She then lies down on the bed fully clothed and snuggles under the blanket.
Back at Salt, Felicity is finishing off and suggests Tane drop her home. He suggests she come back to his place instead and she agrees. Justin and Theo arrive as they’re leaving. Theo says Justin should have just said if he and Leah wanted rid of him, walking out. Tane and Felicity arrive back at the house and find the door open and Mia’s bag where she left it. Tane checks her room and says her bed’s been slept in but she’s gone. He goes looking for her and finds her wandering around. He calls out to her, then realises she’s sleepwalking, so steers her back to the house and into her room, putting her to bed, before explaining to Felicity and hoping it was a one-off.
Next morning, Justin and Theo meet up on the beach. Justin is annoyed at what Theo said, saying he might have wanted rid of Theo when he first turned up, but at the end of the day, he’s family and belongs there. He offers Theo an apprenticeship at the garage. Theo is delighted. Justin meets Ziggy at the Diner and then greets Marilyn. They briefly discuss Brody before Marilyn looks awkward on realising Ziggy’s there. Justin tells Ziggy about employing Theo as an apprentice. Ziggy isn’t enthralled and wonders if they even need one. Justin suggests it might let them do more work. Roo comes in and chats to Marilyn about Alf going back to Merimbula. Marilyn encourages Roo to go with him, saying it might be her last chance to see Martha.
Roo chases after Alf and says she’s going with him. Alf asks why the change. Roo says she wants to see Martha and to change her mind about the operation. Alf says Martha would be delighted to see her but only if she can keep a lid on her feelings. He drives off. At the garage, Justin is on the phone to Theo, giving him instructions on how to enroll at TAFE and suggesting he talk to Ziggy. Ziggy hurts herself twisting a bolt in anger and Justin rings off. Ziggy says Justin didn’t talk to her about offering Theo an apprenticeship. Justin protests that he didn’t think he needed to and Ziggy points out she’ll be supervising him. Justin asks what she thinks of the idea and she says she hates it. Justin asks if it’s to do with Theo’s attitude. Ziggy says to forget it and walks off.
