Extended Summary

Mia emerges from the gym at the end of her shift and is greeted by John, who comments that it’s good to see her back. Justin and Theo come in, looking to grab a pizza while Leah’s away. Theo asks when Leah’s coming back and Justin says when she can get a flight. Theo is confused, since there’s flights from Cyprus every day. He invites John to join them, calling himself John’s favourite delinquent. John says he’s in the top three. Mia arrives home and declines Tane’s offer of a beer, asking him to look over her attempt at the roster. Tane says Nikau’s staying over at Bella’s and he’s not sure where Chloe went. Mia says she’ll text and ask her. Tane says he will and Mia points out she can do that herself.

Chloe comments that she hasn’t had the stew in a while. Nikau says it’s Ari’s recipe but there isn’t enough for seconds because he wasn’t expecting three people. Chloe gets a text alert and Nikau has to prompt her to check it: She says it’s Mia and Tane asking if she’s coming home. Nikau points out she said Tane wanted space and also that Nikau himself said he wanted space with Bella. Chloe says she’ll go home to a lecture from Tane and Mia crying then. Bella tells her to stay. Later, Nikau comments to Bella that he expected to be fuller after eating. Chloe appears, wanting a movie marathon. Nikau isn’t keen but Bella agrees. Nikau decides to go to bed and leave them to it, quietly telling Bella that Chloe needs her more than him,

John shows Justin and Theo his to-do list, explaining Jett has got a new girlfriend and he’s going to meet her. Theo asks if he gets let off community service but John says that’s one of the thing he’s sorting out. Theo says not to tell Leah about his arrest, explaining he wants to tell her himself. John tries to make out watering his plants is part of Theo’s community service and Theo says to just ask him. Justin gets a call from Leah and comments on her having roast lamb. Theo is confused, since it should be morning where she is. He follows Justin onto the balcony and overhears him asking Leah how things are going with Dimitri. Theo dashes downstairs, with John following. Theo says Leah’s back in Australia with Dimitri.

Mia gets a text from Chloe saying she’s staying with Nikau and Bella. Tane, watching a sports match, is surprised. Mia tells him he can’t deal with everything on his own. Tane says that things are tense between Chloe and Nikau but she doesn’t need to worry. At the surf club, John tries to calm Theo down and assures him he didn’t say a word, even though he wanted to. Theo is worried that Dimitri will blame him. He ignores a call from Justin, who promptly walks past in the middle of leaving a voicemail asking where he got to and sees them. John says they were just going over community service stuff and they head back upstairs.

Next morning, Bella is asleep on the couch. Chloe is sat next to her, writing her journal. She says Bella’s the only one she trusts and she thought crying in the bathroom would get rid of Nikau. She takes a photo of the sleeping Bella then drapes a blanket over her. Nikau sees the last part and jokingly asks if she’s going to sing her a lullaby. Chloe says they sat up talking. Bella wakes up and Chloe teases her. Down by the beach, Mia and Tane have just finished a class. Chloe, Nikau and Bella appear and Chloe suggests a family breakfast. Tane stops Bella, telling her he’s not sure Nikau is coping. Nikau calls out for Bella to hurry up.

Up in Salt, Mia goes to order. Chloe comments that she’s glad she’s there this time. Nikau reminds her she was working last time and suggests she’ll plan something for them all to do. Tane asks what’s going on and why he pushed Chloe to go back to work. Bella says it’s about Nikau, not Chloe. Nikau realises they’ve been talking about him and walks out. Chloe stops Bella going after him. Mia asks what she missed. Downstairs, Nikau is accosted by John, who is leaving instructions for when he’s away and checks Nikau can handle it. Nikau admits his family are at each other’s throats. John suggests he apologise for whatever’s happened.

Justin and Theo are working at the garage when John turns up. He jokes about Justin giving him a free service as landlord before saying he had a few community service items to discuss with Theo. He tells him that he’ll be reporting to Cash and John won’t be leaving until tomorrow so Theo can talk to him until then. Justin again dodges questions about Leah coming back. Theo retires into the office and calls Leah, asking about Cyprus and how it must be the middle of the night there. He also comments to Justin on the time difference. Justin suggests he help him with a car. Later, Justin wonders why Theo doesn’t seem too enthused as he struggles with a jack. Theo says he knows Leah’s back and is talking to Dimitri, wondering why they’re lying to him.

Tane and Mia arrive home and Tane goes to talk to Nikau in his room. Nikau regrets storming out and says it felt like Chloe was deliberately coming between him and Bella. He wonders if maybe he isn’t coping as much as he thought he was. Tane tells him to concentrate on himself. Mia checks through some mail and finds two envelopes from Births, Deaths and Marriages. When Tane comes out, she shows him she has both her marriage certificate and Ari’s death certificate, noting that’s what happens when your husband dies on your wedding day. She says that’s her life right there.
