Extended Summary

At the surf club, John is giving Nikau a list of jobs to do. Bella and Chloe arrive and Nikau gives Bella a delighted hug. John comments that he’s had romances too until the spark dies and you have to deal with mundanity. He offers Nikau a break and says to have juices on him. Nikau and Bella quietly chat about how Chloe’s doing. They notice the gym’s open and Nikau tells them about needing the money, suggesting Chloe go back to work as well. Chloe says Irene reallocated her shifts but Bella takes her to see Irene at the beach house. Chloe is quick to accept defeat on seeing Irene has brought in extra help but Irene says Chloe can share her shift today. Chloe doesn’t look too happy.

John gives Nikau information on becoming a full-time lifeguard. Roo arrives and admits she’s not feeling too good about staying at home. She asks John if he’d accept help from Jett but John says he wouldn’t want to put his kid through it. At the caravan park, Felicity chats to Tane about spending time with family. Tane notes he was expecting to still see Ari in prison, recalling he never visited him when he was in jail before since he was too busy partying and said it was going to be different this time. He notes he missed Felicity.

At the Diner, Irene and Bella set Chloe up for her shift. Irene asks if they got the flowers and Roo asks about Mia. Nikau arrives and Chloe asks him and Bella what they want. Nikau says they’re actually meeting Tane at Salt. He takes Bella’s hand and pulls her away, with Bella checking to make sure Chloe doesn’t mind. Soon after, John, Nikau, Bella and Tane are all at Salt, discussing the gym reopening. Felicity gives John an expensive bottle, then joins the others in a toast to Ari, offering a free round of drinks. Nikau notes things are looking up. Tane thanks Bella for keeping an eye on Chloe.

Chloe checks her phone, considering calling Bella. Roo asks her what she thought about Ryder’s video. Chloe, in something of a panic, tells her and Irene that she needs to go and wasn’t ready to come back to work. Meanwhile, Bella and Nikau are sat in his room, talking about how much they missed each other. Bella says sometimes they have to think about themselves, which Nikau comments is permission to be selfish. They kiss but are interrupted by Chloe hammering on the door. She asks Nikau if Bella’s there. Nikau says she is and they’re busy, closing the door. Chloe looks annoyed.

Irene and John have met at the Diner after she cancelled dinner together. Irene explains about Chloe coming back to work and then leaving. John wonders if the family are moving on too soon with Nikau, Tane and Mia all back at work and tells her about the fundraising page. At Salt, Tane thanks Felicity for changing the mood. Felicity says she thinks Nikau’s going to be okay. Tane says bad luck follows his family around but he’s going to give Nikau the life he and his brothers didn’t have. He says Felicity’s what made him happy and she’s the big picture. Felicity looks shocked.

Next morning, Bella and Nikau are kissing at the Diner. Chloe, sat at their table, hands them menus and asks Bella if she wants to go for a swim and walk to the lighthouse. Bella says she and Nikau were hoping to spend time together alone. John comes along and comments on Chloe leaving work early. Bella and Nikau ask why she didn’t say she was upset. Chloe says she tried and they didn’t listen. She walks out, leaving them feeling bad. They follow Chloe home where she tells them she’s fine. Nikau apologises for blanking her. Chloe says she understands they needed to catch up and is used to being left out. She goes into the bathroom, where she smiles and then starts making sobbing noises. Nikau and Bella are concerned.

Tane wakes up alone in the caravan and finds Felicity sat outside. She says she has things to get on with. Tane is confused since she’s not working. She calls it life admin and quickly leaves. She heads to the beach house, calling out for Cash or Jasmine. Irene says they’re not there and offers herself as an alternative. Felicity reluctantly agrees, helping herself to an apple and telling her what Tane said. Irene tells her to cut him some slack, since he’ll want stability.Felicity’s not sure she can be that person.

Felicity meets up with Tane near the beach and asks him about talking about crazy stuff like happiness. Tane isn’t sure what the problem is. Felicity says she knows what it’s like to grab onto something when you’re grieving and wonders if he’d have said it if Ari was alive. Meanwhile, Bella convinces Nikau to let her fix things with Chloe. Nikau calls out a farewell and leaves. Chloe stops sobbing and exits the bathroom, looking pleased when Bella hugs her.
