Extended Summary

Mia is going for a run on the beach but collapses, gasping for breath. Irene appears from the direction of the Diner and convinces her to come inside. Back at the Parata house, Ari says Tane was home late last night. Tane says he was working and then looking for Felicity. Ari shows him Felicity asleep in bed, explaining he found her asleep by the pool outside. Tane drapes a blanket over her.

Irene has sat Mia down in the Diner and got her a glass of water. She asks how long it had been since Mia had seen Matthew. Mia says he was never around when Chloe was growing up and it was her choice. Irene says that, from what she’s seen him of him, he seems decent. Mia sharply agrees he seems that way. Irene suggests it’s difficult with exes. Mia just asks to sit there for a while. At Salt, Chloe has met with Matthew, who suggests she might have to accept that he and Mia aren’t going to get along. He asks if she’s thought about business school, giving her a pamphlet. Chloe says it’s far away. Matthew says he only lives a couple of streets away and she could stay with him. He convinces her to think about it.

Ari asks Tane if he saw Mia when he was out, also asking about Felicity. Tane goes to see Felicity, who is now awake: She has been clutching the family photo album. She accepts Tane’s offer of a coffee but refuses his food and is mortified to realise she fought with Jasmine. Tane asks her to show him the album. Felicity shows him photos of her and Cash with their parents and her dog Rusty. She bursts into tears on seeing the last photo of her with her father. Tane comforts her. Later, Jasmine finds Felicity sitting by the beach. Felicity apologises for the way she spoke to her and Jasmine forgives her. Jasmine asks if Felicity does this every year. Felicity says when she was growing up she had everyone looking at her with pity, believing her father had killed himself, and that’s why she never goes back.

Mia arrives back at the house, closely followed by Chloe. Mia apologises for the previous night but says she doesn’t want Matthew coming there again. Chloe says that she’s enrolling in business college in the city and is going to live with Matthew. Ari and Mia are both opposed to the idea but Chloe says they can’t stop her. At the Diner, Irene serves Jasmine a triple shot espresso for Felicity, saying the hurricane needs it. Jasmine asks Felicity if she’s ever told Cash how she feels. Felicity says Cash does things the right way, not because he has to but because he wants to. Nearby, Chloe joins Matthew and says she’s decided and Mia will have to get used to it. Back at the house, Mia is saying she doesn’t know what to do. Ari says she knows how to stop it: Tell Chloe the truth. Mia says there’s something else she wants to try first.

At the surf club, Felicity finds Tane and tells him she’s back to being besties with Jasmine. She wonders what Ari thinks of her. Tane tells her to tell him before it gets that bad next time. Felicity asks him to come away with her. They head to the gym where Tane says he can’t just disappear: He has his job to think about. Felicity complains that he said he’d be there for her but claims she wasn’t being serious. She is going to go for a drink but Tane stops her and asks why she keeps running away, saying drinking and partying is a cop-out and she can’t keep taking off. He convinces her to wait until Cash gets back.

Irene greets Ari at the Diner and asks about Mia. Chloe comes back in from taking the rubbish out and Ari asks to talk to her. Chloe says she’s busy but Irene gives her five minutes. Ari insists that there are things she doesn’t know but it’s not his place to tell her. Chloe says Matthew’s done nothing but support her. Irene wonders what’s going on and Ari leaves. Back at home, he runs into Tane and tells him about the disastrous dinner. He isn’t sure Mia’s going about it the right way but Tane says Mia’s strong and the pair of them together are even stronger. Ari goes to the bedroom and finds a ring.

Matthew meets Mia near the beach and notes he wasn’t in a hurry to have her yell at and insult him again. Mia accuses him of buying Chloe. Matthew says he’s just trying to help her. Mia tells him to take back the offer of college and get out of their lives or she’ll tell Chloe the truth. Matthew says it’s Mia’s truth and if she was going to do that, she’d have done it by now. He walks away. At the Diner, Felicity is on the phone to Cash, who seems surprised she’s still there, and promises to be there when he arrives. Jasmine joins her and Felicity says Cash is on his way home. She’s promised to talk to him when he arrives. Chloe comes over to take their order and Jasmine offers to split a carrot cake. Felicity says she doesn’t split dessert: They’ll have two slices. Chloe gets a text and tells Irene she’s been accepted into North East Business College.

Mia arrives home and tells Ari her plan didn’t work. She says he’s right and she doesn’t have a choice: She has to tell Chloe the truth.
