Extended Summary

Tane and Felicity head out onto the balcony of Salt, commenting that they did this yesterday. Mackenzie looks slightly uncomfortable to see them chummy but asks for their order. Felicity just asks for a coffee, even though they’re meant to be having breakfast. Tane orders a big breakfast. Felicity admits she doesn’t have an income since she won’t go back to the club. Tane says it’s a date so he’ll pay. Felicity kisses him and calls over to Mackenzie that she’ll have pancakes.

Matthew comments to Ari that he’s never seen the appeal of fishing. He introduces himself but Ari says he knows who he is, explaining that he lives with Mia and is Chloe’s stepfather. Matthew says he and Mia remember that night differently. Ari tells him to stay away from his family. Matthew says that’s up to Chloe. Back at the Parata house, Mia asks Chloe how cancelling the orders went. Chloe asks her to stop cleaning and talk to her. She asks why Mia didn’t tell her Matthew was in town, says it wasn’t her call, but Mia insists it is. Chloe says her life could have been different with her dad in her life; Mia lied to keep her away from Ari and is now doing it again.

Justin enters Marilyn’s room at the hospital; Irene is there already. Irene says Marilyn is being discharged but Marilyn is refusing to go, since last time she did that she collapsed. Irene tries to point out that she got a new doctor who says she’s fine. Justin asks if she really wanted to stay in hospital. He and Irene go out to the corridor. Irene explains the doctors say there’s nothing physically wrong with Marilyn and it’s because of the toxic fumes. She’s been given sleeping pills and anti-depressants and a referral to a psychiatrist but is refusing to listen to the doctors.

Chloe is telling Mia she doesn’t need protecting and Mia can’t hold a grudge against Matthew over what happened when they were teenagers. Ari arrives back and Chloe leaves. She meets up with Matthew on the beach, having contacted him. They agree it’s weird. Matthew says Mia’s not his biggest fan. Chloe says she won’t say why. Matthew just says they were both kids and made mistakes, adding that Chloe’s turned out all right so Mia’s obviously a good mother.

Tane and Felicity exit the surf club and arrange to meet later. Mackenzie approaches Tane and asks about them getting closer. Tane reminds her Felicity was innocent. Mackenzie expresses doubts about him starting a relationship but he says it’s none of her business. At the hospital, Marilyn is saying that she wants to be there if she falls asleep and doesn’t wake up again. She thinks Doctor Singh is conspiring with Logan against her. Justin suggests that by refusing to leave she’s making it look like she has a mental health issue and she should pretend to co-operate. Marilyn sees his point.

Mia berates Ari for talking to Matthew. Ari says she just told him not to do anything stupid but Mia accuses him of ignoring her wishes and says he wouldn’t have had any more effect on Matthew than she did. At the Diner, Chloe asks Matthew how long he and Mia were together. Matthew says it was just one night. He admits his parents gave her money to have an abortion and says she just disappeared and he didn’t see her again until last week. Chloe says at least he’s there now.

Justin and Marilyn arrive at Salt. Marilyn marches straight over to Mackenzie, asking where Logan is. Mackenzie says he’s gone away for a few days. Marilyn says to tell Logan to leave her alone and that he’s turned all the hospital against her. Mackenzie heads downstairs and runs into Felicity. She apologises for accusing her of stalking Tane. Felicity says everyone thought it was her, including Tane. Mackenzie goes on to suggest that Tane deserves honesty and something good. Felicity catches the implication that she thinks that’s not her and says her apology sucked.

Mia has left ten voicemails and five texts for Chloe and goes to look for her, telling Ari to stay there. Tane arrives and Ari tells him about warning off Matthew. He asks Tane to distract him. Tane admits he’s not trusting his instincts: Not only Anne but getting things wrong with Ziggy. Ari suggests being patient. Tane goes to Felicity’s caravan. She thinks she’s done something wrong but Tane invites her to go for a walk with him. Although a bit bemused, Felicity agrees and they hold hands as they walk.

Marilyn and Justin arrive at the Diner with Justin suggesting her issues with Logan had nothing to do with Mackenzie. Marilyn gets a phone call that she rejects, telling Justin and Irene she needs some air. Justin says lunch didn’t work out. Outside, Marilyn leaves a phone message for Alf, saying she’s sorry she missed his call and really needs to talk to him because she’s scared.

Matthew and Chloe walk on the beach, with Mia watching them from a distance. Chloe promises to call and arrange another meeting and thanks him for tracking her down. Mia doesn’t look happy. A short time later, at the Parata house, Mia again tries to get Chloe to stay away from Matthew. Chloe says Mia only knew him for one night twenty years ago and he seems nice. She says Mia lied to both of them and she’s the awful one.
