Extended Summary

Mackenzie tells Logan she has to go into work. Logan tries to get her to take the day off, saying she’s the boss, but Mackenzie insists she needs to go home and change. Logan says he’ll walk her. Not too far away, Ryder remarks to Chloe that he’s finally had a rest while Chloe ponders renegotiating Leah and Irene’s percentage. They run into Nikau, who is listening to Bella’s message. He wonders if she wants to talk about the camera and Ryder confesses to giving it back to her, explaining that Ari let him in. Nikau thinks in that case there’s nothing to talk to her about and declines to call her back.

Alf and Martha arrive at the Diner and Martha approaches Bella at her table, thanking her for her photographs. She asks Bella if she’s having another exhibition, saying she’d like to go, but Bella clearly isn’t in the mood for talking and abruptly leaves. Roo has come in during the conversation and she and Marilyn tell Martha and Alf about Bella and Nikau’s break-up. At the surf club, Nikau is playing pool while Ryder is trying to get him to call Bella. Nikau protests that Ryder’s meant to be keeping an eye on the board shop and Ryder retorts that it’s right there. Nikau eventually has enough and leaves. Chloe enters and asks Ryder why he had to do that. Ryder wants to know why Nikau didn’t answer.

Mackenzie and Logan arrive at Salt and Logan ogles Mackenzie as she bends down behind the bar. Mackenzie tells him to go and let her get on with her work, as Logan says her running a bar is really sexy and he thought he’d blown it with her. He leaves but stops a few times to look back at her as he does so. Meanwhile, Bella joins up with Ryder and Chloe at the surf club and wonders if they’ve seen Nikau. Ryder admits that he heard her message but refused to call her. He tries to dissuade her but she insists on going to look for him. Chloe wonders why Ryder’s getting involved.

Nikau hears someone knock at the door and tells them to go away. Bella comes in and insists they need to talk. Nikau refuses and shuts himself in his room. Bella says she knows how this works and will wait until he’s ready to talk. At the Diner, Martha is glued to the auction site on her laptop, telling Alf and Marilyn that there haven’t been any bids yet. She suddenly gets a notification of the first bid: Someone offering $200 for a painting of Alf. Logan comes in and orders a sandwich, then cancels it when he gets a text.

At the surf club, Ryder tells Chloe he was just looking out for his friends but Chloe thinks he hasn’t helped. Mackenzie comes downstairs, looking at texts. Ryder calls over that he’s done the roster for the board shop. Mackenzie is initially distracted but when he gets tetchy she apologises. Ryder says it’s the last time he sticks his nose in something and that Bella and Nikau are tearing each other apart again. Mackenzie says sometimes you have to let people make their own mistakes. She heads home and finds Logan waiting for her: He says the spare key was under the second plant pot, not the first. They kiss.

Bella is still sat outside Nikau’s room, saying she just wants to talk to him. Nikau emerges and Bella tells him about the photo she found and how she thinks they could be happy like that again. Nikau thinks they won’t be able to get past what he did. Bella says this is his last chance: If he lets her go now, she won’t come back. Nikau goes back into his room and Bella leaves, upset. Nikau is in tears also. At the Diner flat, Mackenzie and Logan emerge from the bedroom, with her now wearing his shirt. She goes to get some food from the fridge but finds they’re short of supplies. Logan quips it’s a shame they don’t know someone who runs a restaurant. Mackenzie suggests takeaway.

Down in the Diner, Roo and Chloe offer Martha encouragement over the first bid. Martha wonders if Alf or Roo placed the bid. Roo says she wouldn’t and Alf says he wouldn’t know how to get into the website and wouldn’t patronise her. Upstairs, Mackenzie and Logan are now dressed. Mackenzie thinks Logan isn’t letting anything slip about himself and asks him why he left the army. Logan simply says he wanted to see what else life had to offer and Mackenzie accepts that’s all she’s going to get. Logan leaves for a shift, then comes back and kisses her before leaving.

Ryder sees Bella sat on a boat near the pier, crying. He goes to sit with her and she explains Nikau rejected her attempt to get back with him. Ryder comforts her. Chloe watches from outside the Diner. She heads home and finds Nikau looking unhappy on the couch. She points out that Bella is willing to get back together and he’s the one that’s stopping it from happening. Realising she’s right, Nikau dashes out.

At the Diner flat, Mackenzie is comforting Bella, who now feels she should just move on. Nikau bursts in and says he needs to speak to Bella. Mackenzie checks Bella’s fine with it, then leaves them alone. Bella reminds Nikau he let her walk away. Nikau says he wants what she said and asks for one more chance.
