Extended Summary

Jasmine and Lewis are hanging out near the beach before work, with Jasmine about to go for a jog and Lewis less keen on the idea. He claims to have a pulled muscle in order to elicit a kiss. He tries for another one but Jasmine runs off and he chases her. At the hospital, Christian is explaining to Mia why he wants to send Ari for a CT scan: They need the swelling to go down before they bring him out of the coma. Mia wonders if she should call Tane and Nikau but Christian says there’s nothing they can do until they get the results. Tori watches him through the window and Christian joins her outside. He notes Ari’s stable but everything hinges on the scan.

Alf and Roo run into each other outside the house; Martha decided to get her painting started early, sending Roo to get coffee and Alf fishing. However, they find the paint things overturned and scattered. They dash into the caravan park looking for her, checking her van and finding it locked. In fact, Martha is inside, being held by Kieran with his hand over her mouth. Roo decides to call Irene while Alf goes to the surf club. Once they’ve moved on, Kieran releases Martha, who is shocked to realise he’s actually real and wonders why he came back. Kieran says that she owes him.

At the Diner, Irene finishes a phone call from Roo, saying no-one’s seen Martha. She and Marilyn are both shocked when John walks in looking woozy. He insists he’s on the mend and asks for a glass of water. Irene wonders how he got ill, saying they both had the chicken. Susie arrives and tries to get John to go home. John insists he’s going to the surf club, but feels dizzy when he tries to stand up so asks for water and toast. At the hospital, Mia is on the phone in the corridor. Lewis and Jasmine arrive and Lewis snidely asks Christian if he lost anyone during the night. Tori warns him they’ve spoken about that and Jasmine says Lewis didn’t mean anything by it. Lewis gives a not-very-sincere apology and Christian angrily says he hasn’t. Mia listens in with concern.

Alf returns as Roo is finishing a phone call to Justin. No-one has seen Martha but several caravans were broken into. Alf gets the keys and decides to check Martha’s van. They find the empty beer bottles in there and Roo recalls Martha saying she saw Kieran, wondering if he really is back. At that moment, Kieran is driving, with Martha in the passenger seat. She worries about him being pulled over. Kieran says Alf’s already got the police after him. Martha says they were after him already but Kieran dismisses it as his ex causing trouble. He asks why she thought he wasn’t real and is scornful when she says she’s had troubles lately. He says he’ll be gone as soon as they go to the ATM.

Susie leaves John in order to answer a phone call from a sponsor. Irene takes John’s toast from Marilyn and sits with him, asking him to try and remember what happened before he fell ill. Marilyn suggests he was drinking but Irene thinks there’s more to it. Susie returns and insists on taking John home, saying she’ll look after the surf club. She dismisses Irene’s offer of help. At the hospital, Mia asks Christian why Ari hasn’t come back from radiology and he goes to check. Mia asks Jasmine if there’s anything she should know, given what she heard them saying earlier. Jasmine says Christian’s an amazing surgeon but the family are entitled to ask for a second opinion or another doctor. Tori calls Jasmine into the office and says the family need to trust their doctor and she should have come to her if she had a problem with a doctor. Lewis appears in the doorway and says Tori should come to him if she has a problem with his staff. Tori thinks that would be pointless given their relationship but Jasmine points out Christian is Tori’s fiancé, saying she didn’t say anything she hasn’t said to families before.

Roo says the police are sending a car round. Both she and Alf feel bad about not believing Martha, even though she didn’t believe it herself. Alf decides to go and look for her. Meanwhile, Martha and Kieran have resumed their journey. Kieran is annoyed that Martha only got enough money for a week. Martha says there was a withdrawal limit and suggests going to a bank. Kieran pulls over and tells her to get out but Martha insists he needs to take responsibility for his actions. Kieran says he tried being the good son. Police cars suddenly screech to a halt around them. Kieran thinks Alf called them but Martha says she did, when they were at the ATM. Murray tells Kieran to get out of the car. Kieran goes to strike Martha and Murray drags him out and handcuffs him.

Susie has gone to the Diner for a takeaway chicken soup. Marilyn comments on using it to cure food poisoning caused by chicken. Susie claims John’s feeling better now and it was just 24 hour stomach flu. After Susie’s gone, Marilyn again suggests John was drinking. Irene says he only had one glass and realises Susie bought it for her, deducing she put something in it. Marilyn protests that would mean she tried to poison Irene. Irene thinks everyone’s underestimated her. Meanwhile, Alf, Martha and Roo have gone to Salt. Martha notes it was the hardest thing she’s had to do and hopes Kieran will get help. Alf apologises for not believing her. Martha says she needs to get proper help because what she’s getting from them isn’t enough.

Sat on a park bench, Lewis is critical of Tori’s treatment of Jasmine but Jasmine understands her defending Christian and says Lewis’ comments didn’t help. She notes Christian’s lost some of his swagger. Lewis thinks Ari should have been brought out of him coma by now. Jasmine suggests Christian’s just being cautious but Lewis thinks he’s stalling because he knows Ari isn’t going to live: The longer he’s in a coma, the worse the outcome. At the hospital, Mia is by Ari’s bedside, saying Gemma keeps calling and Chloe will be a nightmare if he doesn’t get better. Christian comes in and says the scan didn’t show much improvement so he needs to call Ari’s family in to discuss a treatment plan. He convinces Mia to go home for the night. Christian checks on Ari, unaware Lewis is watching him.

Later, Tori finds Christian looking over Ari’s notes at home. Christian says he’s going to talk to Ari’s family about bringing him out of the coma, because he can’t lose this one. Back at the hospital, Lewis is sat by Ari’s bedside. He says there’s no chance for Ari but at least this way his death won’t be for nothing: Lewis is going to make sure Christian never works again.
