Extended Summary

Roo and Owen note they’re a bit out of practise with kissing but it seemed to go okay. Owen suggests going for a walk but Roo suggests going upstairs instead and he seems happy to agree. At Salt, Mackenzie hands over a takeaway while Ari again encourages her to move in. Mackenzie says that was never the plan and she’s stayed longer than intended. She thinks there’s no rush to live together but Ari continues to push it. She claims to have a meeting with John but Ari just says he’ll wait for her.

As Mackenzie heads downstairs, Ziggy, who is just there for lunch, has been accosted by John who is complaining about Dean not turning up or answering his calls and leaving a group of confused surf lesson customers. After trying to say she doesn’t know where he is, Ziggy ends up blurting out that they’ve broken up before hurrying out. Mackenzie tells John it’s the first she’s heard of it. She calls Willow but she won’t explain or put Dean on and quickly hangs up. Back upstairs, Mackenzie takes a pizza and tells Ari she has to go deal with it.

Mackenzie turns up at the farm house and rambles to Ziggy about the bad directions John gave her. She explains she wanted to check on her and produces the pizza that Ziggy wanted. Later, as they eat, Mackenzie wonders about the break-up. Ziggy says it can’t be fixed. Mackenzie wonders what it was about and asks if it was about Amber and Dean being a dad. Ziggy says he hid something big from her. Mackenzie wonders if he cheated and Ziggy says she can’t discuss it, pretending it’s because Mack is Dean’s sister.

At the Diner, Alf asks Marilyn if he can go and do the job at the caravan park yet while Ryder is meant to be meeting Bella and Nikau in Yabbie Creek for a movie and needs to go home and change. Marilyn insists they both stay and starts making Ryder a milkshake he doesn’t want. Tane turns up for a burger, saying he fancied a change and will eat outside. He asks Ryder if he knows where Nikau is and Ryder again stresses the movie start time to an unyielding Marilyn. Shortly after, Ari finds Tane eating on the wharf. Ari explains about Mackenzie moving out. Tane suggests she might have been affected by Ari getting Bella to leave but Ari is dispirited that he and Mack aren’t on the same page.

Ryder heads up towards the house, on the phone to Bella or Nikau saying he’ll be there in twenty minutes. He then sees Roo and Owen emerging from the house giggling and says he’s not going to make it. Back on the wharf, Tane tries to suggest to Ari that it’s for the best and Mackenzie might not have liked living there as much as he has. Ari thinks he needs to make another attempt to talk her round. Tane tries to talk him out of it but Ari says he couldn’t handle it if he didn’t fight for her and lost her.

Back at the farm house, Mackenzie is telling Ziggy she’s lucky to have so much space. Ziggy thinks it’s a bit quiet but Mackenzie appreciates it living with three men. Ziggy understands but says she misses company. Mackenzie looks thoughtful. Back at the surf club, John fills Marilyn in on his visit to Jett, mentioning how they compared rehab stories. He also tells her about Dean and Ziggy splitting up and that he’ll let her know if he gets any more information.

Owen finds Ryder waiting outside his caravan. Ryder says that since he’s been living with Roo she’s never dated anyone and notes that she’s special. Owen agrees. Ryder warns him not to hurt her and that he’ll be watching. At Salt, Mackenzie runs into Ari, who begins giving a speech about how if she gives living together a chance she won’t regret it. When Mackenzie finally manages to get a word in, she explains she’s already arranged to move in with Ziggy. She tries to convince him it’ll be better having somewhere quiet to escape to but Ari is clearly disappointed.

At the Diner, Marilyn tells Alf that chatting to John was like talking to an old friend and it was the first time she’s spoken to him without feeling sad. Ryder comes in and Alf wonders what happened to his movie. Ryder says he got enough entertainment and a caravan is more appropriate for some things than a family home: He doesn’t want to talk about it. Marilyn heads home and finds Roo outside, asking if she found out if Owen was interested in her. She realises from Roo’s reaction that she definitely did. Roo wishes Ryder didn’t know but Marilyn thinks it should be celebrated. She makes herself scarce as Owen approaches. Owen tells Roo that he’s had “the talk”: Not from Alf, but from Ryder. Roo is embarrassed but Owen thinks it’s sweet. He suggests they have dinner in Yabbie Creek tonight. Roo agrees but says they have time to kill until then and offers to show him upstairs.

Ziggy collects Mackenzie’s case from the Paratas’, which is heavy despite only containing clothes. Mackenzie gets her charger and exchanges awkward looks with Tane. She thanks Ari for letting her stay and says she’ll see him tomorrow. After she’s gone, Ari comments to Tane that they keep driving women away. Shortly after, at the farm house, Ziggy gives Mackenzie a beer and offers her Ben and Maggie’s old room: It’s the biggest and Ziggy likes her old room. Mackenzie asks if there are any house rules and Ziggy says no touching her ice cream, no complaining about her wet towels and no touching her tool box without permission. She asks if Mackenzie has any bad habits and Mackenzie says she sometimes gets up during the night to make a cup of tea and is a clean freak. She celebrates a guy-free zone but Ziggy looks upset and admits she misses Dean. Mackenzie comforts her.

Next morning, Ari is woken up by loud music and finds Tane cheerily making breakfast. Ari notes it’s the first time in weeks he’s been in a good mood and Tane says it’s a chick-free zone. Ari asks if he said something to Mack. Tane looks awkward.
