Extended Summary

Ari and Mackenzie are on the beach, with him rubbing sun lotion onto her back. Tane appears and tells them that Mackenzie’s needed at work since a delivery’s running late. Mackenzie decides to have a shower at the surf club instead of going home to get changed. Ari and Tane head home and find some bags in the living area. Nikau and Bella emerge from his room just long enough to announce that Bella’s moving in, collect the bags and disappear. Ari in particular doesn’t look pleased. In his room, Nikau chucks his clothes out of the drawers to make room for Bella’s things. Bella isn’t convinced that her moving in has gone down well but Nikau says it’s his house too and promises to smooth things over with Ari.

Ryder and Owen are walking through the caravan park after their surf, discussing Owen’s date with Roo. They see Roo trying to look inconspicuous by cleaning the outside of Owen’s van. After getting rid of Ryder, she asks Owen what he thought of her message and he says his phone’s on charge inside. She suggests he meet her at Salt at eight, saying she goes there to keep Ryder company. Owen heads into his van and Roo realises she doesn’t know if he’s coming or not. At the Paratas’ house, Nikau is making his mother’s bacon and egg pie with some help from Bella. Ari and Tane are impressed but Ari adds that it’s not going to work.

Roo is sat on her own at Salt. Ryder passes her table, wondering if she wants something to eat, but she sends him to check on other customers. Mackenzie also stops by to ask if she wants anything other than wine. Roo denies that she’s waiting for someone. Mackenzie goes home and finds Tane playing his guitar outside. She notes she didn’t know he played and he says he doesn’t like an audience. He decides to go to bed. Mackenzie says he doesn’t have to but Tane gives her a long look that suggests she thinks he does.

Soon after, Ari and Mackenzie are discussing Nikau moving Bella in without asking. Mackenzie is somewhat confused by the news since Bella and Colby are usually inseparable. Ari is surprised he hasn’t been banging on their door. At Salt, Owen has joined Roo and talks to her about how he lost everything, noting it was actually quite liberating not to have a mortgage and possessions to worry about. He indicates he’s staying in Summer Bay for the foreseeable. John arrives and sits down with them, saying he’s just got back from Jett’s and didn’t expect anyone else to be there. He asks if he’s interrupting and Owen says they’re just keeping Ryder company. Ryder doesn’t look happy.

Next morning, Ari and Mackenzie again discuss how surprising it is that Bella isn’t living with Colby, with Tane sat nearby not really paying attention. Bella and Nikau enter and Mackenzie takes Bella to the Diner for coffees, confirming it’s so Ari and Nikau can talk. Ari makes it clear he thinks Bella being there is a bad idea. Nikau says Colby upsets her and Tane chimes in that all families have issues. Ari thinks if Colby’s off the rails that’s even more reason to steer clear and says Bella can only stay a few nights. Meanwhile, as they walk on the beach, Mackenzie tries to get information from Bella. Bella says Colby’s made some bad choices but won’t betray any confidences. Mackenzie is shocked that Colby hasn’t even called her. Bella refuses to discuss it further.

Both Ari and Tane think they should keep away from Colby in case he starts hassling them again. Nikau says Colby has other things to worry about but refuses to elaborate. Ari refers to himself as trying to protect the family but Nikau thinks he’s trying to control him. Ari insists that no good will come from Bella living there, just in time for her to come home with Mackenzie and overhear. Shortly after, Ari and Mackenzie are at Salt. Ari realises he’s looking like the bad guy but is still worried about Colby. Mackenzie senses there’s something wrong at home and doesn’t think sending Bella back is a good idea.

Roo and Marilyn are walking through the caravan park. Roo tells Marilyn about her date with Owen, including the fact that John interrupted them. They see Owen nearby with Alf and Ryder. Marilyn announces she’s taking Alf and Ryder to the Diner for lunch, whilst Roo invites Owen up to the house for coffee and cake. Shortly after, the two of them are having a snack outside the house. They discuss John’s behaviour, the fact they have the house to themselves and how they feel around each other before Roo kisses him. Owen is surprised but kisses her back.

Bella and Nikau are in Nikau’s room. Bella thinks she should go back to Colby rather than cause trouble. Ari appears and asks to talk to Bella. He tells her that she’s welcome to stay there if there’s trouble at home but Bella decides to go home anyway, since she doesn’t want Colby thinking the Paratas have come between them. She tells Nikau of her decision, saying she can’t turn her back on Colby. At the surf club, John complains to Mackenzie about Dean’s absence. Mackenzie sees Tane emerging from the gym and asks if anyone there knows where Dean and Willow have gone. Tane says they’re not mates and her being everywhere isn’t helping.

Later, Ari goes to Salt and chats to Mackenzie about how things went with Bella. He notes Mackenzie’s looking at rental properties and she points out her staying with him was only meant to be temporary. Ari suggests it doesn’t have to be and asks her to stay.
