Extended Summary

Angelo pulls up outside the Diner and sees Bella with Nikau near the bait shop. Ari approaches the pair after his fishing session. Both he and Alf agree the point of fishing isn’t to catch anything but to relax. Alf tells Nikau he can take a break once he’s finished cleaning the boats. Angelo continues to watch Bella and Nikau’s banter, looking annoyed and suspicious. At Salt, Mackenzie is looking after Tane and thinks he needs stitches. Tane says he’ll go home and do them himself, but when he tries to stand up he ends up abruptly sitting down again, in pain. Mackenzie wants to call the police about him being stabbed but he sharply tells her not to. Mackenzie agrees if he gets himself looked at.

At the Morgan house, Leah tells Ava she has to put Grace down for a nap and gets her to check on Buddy. She then asks Justin how he’s feeling. Justin says he’s relieved they found a surgeon but also freaked out about the operation. Leah asks if he wants Ava there while he’s in hospital. Justin doesn’t want her around if anything goes wrong so is going to send her back to Nina, but he wants one day with her first so she remembers him as a fun dad if he ends up in a wheelchair. At the Diner, Bella charms Irene into giving her and Nikau a two for one deal on muffins and they mention her recent trip away. Angelo has been listening in from a nearby table. He approaches Irene and comments on how well she seems to know Bella, who Irene mentions lived with her for a while. He asks where she and Nikau went and Irene says Mount Currawong. Angelo heads back to the police station where he calls someone and asks them to look for Bella and Nikau’s names on transport to Mount Currawong.

Tane and Mackenzie arrive at the hospital, where Mackenzie gets a call from Ari, who is at Salt and has heard what has happened. Mackenzie reassures him, but at that point they go into a lift and she loses the signal. The lift then judders to a halt and attempts to use the call button fail to get any attention. Later, Tane is sat on the floor as Mackenzie bangs on the door and calls out. She tells Tane that if he’d let her call the police they’d have gone there in an ambulance. She then realises that he didn’t want her to because he knew the men. Tane confirms it’s true but says he said no when they wanted him to do a job. Mackenzie starts banging on the door, becoming even more panicked, and Tane hugs her to calm her.

Leah, Justin and Ava have set up a pair of makeshift goals on the grass near the beach. Justin and Ava are going to play, with Leah filming them. Justin winces in pain after just a few kicks but carries on playing. At the Diner, Irene stops by Alf and Roo’s table, asking about Roo’s walk with Owen which Marilyn told her about. Roo says they had a good time. After Irene’s gone, Alf questions Roo further and she says that they cleared the air. Alf leaves, calling over to Nikau that his break ends in one minute. Bella and Nikau have a race to see if they can finish their drinks in a minute.

At the police station, Angelo speaks to someone he calls Zac on speakerphone. Zac says that Bella and Nikau flew out to Mount Currawong and then flew back a week later: They bought one-way tickets the first time, even though returns would have been cheaper. He also mentions that Colby requested the same information. Angelo asks for a full passenger list. Meanwhile, Justin agrees to take a break from playing Ava and Leah takes over for a bit. She then offers to take a photo of Justin and Ava together; Ava insists that Leah get in it with them.

Mackenzie and Tane are huddled on the floor of the lift. Tane notes Ari told him about the siege and Mackenzie notes even the smell is taking her back there. She asks why Tane didn’t tell her the truth. He says he wasn’t sure if she’d have believed him, and even if she had Ari wouldn’t. Mackenzie believes he said no to the men. The lift starts up again; Ari is waiting when the doors open. Later, as Tane is being examined, Ari asks Mackenzie if he picked a fight. Mackenzie says they were just randoms from out of town and Tane helped keep her calm in the lift. Tane has the all clear so Ari suggests they take the stairs.

At the Morgan house, Ava is telling Justin that she understands he needs to focus on the medical stuff. She says goodbye to Grace and discusses teaching her to play soccer. Leah appears, ready to take Ava to the city. Ava tells Justin she wants more days like today and he’s the best dad ever. Justin says it’s easy with a kid like her. At the Diner, Nikau is telling a disappointed Bella he can’t see her tomorrow because he has work and has to help look after Tane. Ari calls him over as he collects a takeaway from Marilyn. Irene chats to Bella about Nikau, who Bella says makes stress bearable. Marilyn checks on Roo, who has just got a text from Owen saying he had a good time.

At the Parata house, Mackenzie pours herself a glass of wine. Tane appears having had a shower and Mackenzie tells him Ari’s gone for food. Tane thanks her for not telling Ari he knew the men. Mackenzie notes she didn’t want to ruin the pair’s good spell but feels bad about lying to him. Ari and Nikau arrive with the food and Tane jokes Ari and Mikaere did worse to him than the stab wound. At the police station, Angelo looks over the passenger list and highlights the names of Ari, Mackenzie, Tane, Bella and Nikau.

Next morning, Bella is on the phone to Nikau in the flat, with him deciding he wants to see her after all. She hears a knock on the door and think it’s him but it’s Angelo. She tells him Colby and Dean aren’t there. Angelo says he needs to talk to her again about Ross. Bella says she can come by the station tomorrow but Angelo insists she come now. Both Alf and Nikau see them outside; Angelo says Bella’s helping with enquiries and Nikau calls over that he’ll get Colby. Angelo puts Bella in the car.
