Extended Summary
Robbo is driving and sees he has a phone call from Colby. He pulls over to answer it and says that he’s busy; he is initially uninterested to hear Justin wants to speak to Tori, but when he hears Raffy needs help he agrees to talk to Lance. He then notices a note that has been placed on top of the car’s sunblind. It has a picture of an ouroboros and the message “Tick tock, time’s almost up.” Meanwhile, Maggie arrives back at the farm house. Ben asks if she’s checking up on him and she admits that’s part of it. She mentions that Alf said he called round but Ben doesn’t respond. Maggie says they’re both gutted by what’s happened but she’ll give him space to do what he needs to. She adds that she filled up the jerry can for the mower if he feels like using it.
At the Diner, Justin is pacing and checking his phone, which catches Leah and Marilyn’s attention. Justin asks a server for a double shot but Leah intervenes and he changes it to decaf. He initially tries to pretend he’s waiting on a call about the garage before admitting he needs Tori’s help. Leah asks Marilyn to hold the fort; she and Justin go outside where he explains about the trial being cancelled and that Colby has spoken to Robbo but he doesn’t know when Tori will ring. Leah asks if he’s going to tell John and Marilyn but Justin says they’d only worry and have to keep it from Raffy. Leah suggests he ask Colby for more information while she look for alternative trials. Justin recalls Mason did that once so Leah says she’ll ask him where to start.
Lance has joined Robbo in the car. Robbo shows him the note. Lance knows the symbol from movies but isn’t sure what significance it has here. Robbo tells him to check if it’s associated with any gangs or tattoos. Lance asks him how he is and Robbo reflects that Jasmine is going crazy and Tori needs to help Raffy. Lance repeats the question: How’s he? Robbo says he has no idea what the people want or how he can give it to them. Outside the safe house, Tori beats Scott at monopoly and says he’s lucky she’s too pregnant to do her victory dance. Lance rings and patches Tori through to Justin. After he’s checked she’s okay and told her about Raffy’s exams, he explains about the trial being cancelled. Tori says she has a colleague who could help but she doesn’t know his number. Justin asks for his name.
At the surf club, Ryder is warned by John that Raffy’s outside. Ryder says he won’t try and talk to her but John thinks they might distract each other, so Ryder sits inside to study. After having an offer to help turned down, John tells him Raffy’s grieving for their relationship and he just needs to give her space. Nearby, Maggie and Roo chat about Alf’s advice; Maggie isn’t convinced she isn’t just giving Ben permission to wallow. She says they haven’t even got a court date yet and she’s worried how that will affect him. At the farm, Ben stands stationary with the jerry can in his hand for quite a while before eventually starting to pour the petrol into the mower.
At school, Raffy chats to Maggie about how she did at the exam and is in a positive frame of mind. She passes Ryder without acknowledging him. Maggie asks Ryder if he wants a post-mortem too but Ryder says he’s just pleased that, once the exam’s done, he doesn’t have to think about modern history or World War II again. He adds that he was worried how he’d cope without Raffy and Coco but now knows he just needs to focus on himself. He wonders if that’s selfish but Maggie agrees sometimes that’s what you have to do. Meanwhile, Leah and Mason are looking up clinics in the gym office with Mason noting many of them won’t take under-18s. Justin turns up and passes on the news from Tori; he’s going to call her colleague.
Robbo is driving when he notices a car behind him. He pulls over and takes his gun out of the globe box, keeping a firm grip on it but having it out of view. The car passes without incident and he relaxes. Meanwhile, Maggie arrives home to find the mower in the middle of the mown lawn and Ben sitting outside. His mood is unchanged however and he turns down her offer to go to Salt, saying they need to save money and he just wants to conk out. He suggests she call Roo or Ziggy. Maggie says she wants to spend time with him but Ben thinks he’d be poor company.
Justin seems to be in a positive mood during his phone conversation but this abruptly changes. He tells Leah and Mason that Dr Bowers only has one possibility and it’s in Melbourne; Raffy won’t be eligible unless she’s living in the state. He adds that any other time they could arrange a move but she can’t go in the middle of the HSC. Mason thinks they need to tell Raffy, pointing out she’ll find out at her hospital appointment. Raffy turns up, positive about her HSC, then wonders what’s going on. After a pointed look, Justin says they need to tell her something. Soon after, John, Marilyn, Justin and Mason are all comforting Raffy at the Diner. Justin says the hospital’s trying to get funding to continue with the trial but Mason is quick to point out that could take months. Raffy tearfully says she’s going to run out of tablets soon. She runs out and Justin follows. He says she’s doing better but Raffy thinks that’s because of the CBD. She worries that she’ll lose concentration and have seizures during exams; all her work will be for nothing and she’ll fail the HSC. Justin promises to fix it somehow.
Robbo is working on his laptop at the motel and starts to look up “Snake following its own tail”. The phone rings and he answers it. A distorted voice tells him to come alone to Blackfriar’s Wharf at 8am, adding that they’re watching the motel and Jasmine. The person hangs up and Robbo looks out the window. Next morning, Robbo drives to the wharf. He talks to Lance over an earpiece, confirming he has the tracker and saying if he’s not back in 48 hours, take Jasmine somewhere safe. He leaves the earpiece in the vehicle and acts as though he’s placed a tracker above the wheel but actually places it in his sock. He stands around to wait.
