Extended Summary

Mackenzie gives Dean, Ziggy and Colby some free food, saying she needs feedback on the new menu. She asks them about themselves. Ziggy says she’s an apprentice mechanic, Dean says he surfs (Colby adds that he also eats) before explaining he works in the board shop downstairs. Willow comes in and is introduced to Mackenzie, who says to call her Mack. Colby asks Willow about Bella, who she says is watching a movie with Irene. Ziggy and Dean leave, passing Mackenzie, who again looks stony-faced. At the Diner flat, Tori tells Robbo and Jasmine she’ll meet them at nine for the 20 week scan, noting she has to go home and drink lots of water. Jasmine notes that they’ll be able to find out the sex and asks Robbo if he found out with Sophie and Luca. He says he did…when they were born. He likes it to be a surprise.

Next morning, Mackenzie is on the beach and sees Colby coming back from a surf. She recalls Dean was meant to be the surfer and Colby says Dean has better things to do first thing; Mackenzie deduces he and Ziggy are a recent thing. She notices Colby’s River Boy tattoo (but doesn’t seem to know the significance) which he awkwardly says he got a long time ago. She asks if there’s anywhere she can have breakfast and Colby reminds her she has a restaurant. However, he takes her to the Diner, where he asks why she moved from the city. Mackenzie says Summer Bay was in her price range. Willow joins them as she adds she had an agent looking for her. Mackenzie asks Willow if she grow up in town. Willow says she grew up in Mangrove River with Colby and Dean and they’re like her brothers.

Ben is staring at a laptop screen and tells Maggie he’s been crunching the numbers and, with the labour and materials, he’s not sure he can do it. Maggie convinces him to at least try and to call the customer back. Meanwhile, Alf runs into Tori near the bait shop and she explains she’s waiting for Robbo and they’re going for the scan. He wishes her luck. Robbo and Jasmine appear; Jasmine is prepared to wait behind but Tori says she’s been involved from the start and missed the last scan so should come.

Dean and Ziggy are still in bed but Dean insists he needs to get up and get to work, despite Ziggy offering to talk to his boss. He heads off to the shower block but Ziggy tries to hide his keys so he’ll have to stay. Instead, she finds his money. At the farm house, Ben is on the phone to the customer. He asks if there’s wriggle room on the deadline but quickly says it will be fine before asking how he found out about him. Dean goes back to the van and finds Ziggy gone. He gets a text message from Ben saying to meet him at Salt ASAP.

Robbo, Jasmine and Tori are waiting at the hospital. Tori and Jasmine point out that they’ll be able to tell the sex of the baby from the screen but Robbo says not to tell him. He isn’t moved by their arguments for finding out, thinking it doesn’t make a difference to decorating or clothes, while Tori thinks she’d need time to adjust to a girl after growing up with boys. The sonographer calls them in. Later, Tori is having the scan as the others watch. She and Jasmine both notice something but don’t say anything. The sonographer confirms that everything is fine.

Mackenzie establishes that John is the surf club manager and Alf is the president. Willow mentions she works at the gym but Mackenzie doesn’t seem very interested in trying it out. After she’s gone, Willow suggests Mackenzie is interested in Colby. She says he can’t wait around for Chelsea but Colby isn’t comfortable with the conversation and tells her to drop it. Meanwhile, Mackenzie briefly chats to Ben at Salt before Dean arrives. Ben asks Dean if he knows Mick Scanwell. Dean confirms he put the word around. Ben tells him about the order; Dean is pleased but Ben says they can’t do anything else from now on and need to start the prep work.

Ziggy goes to the beach house to see Willow. She nearly leaves without saying anything but eventually asks if something’s going on with Dean. Willow doesn’t think there is but Ziggy mentions all the secretive phone calls and telling her it’s nothing, just like Brody did. She says if he’s hiding something she’ll kill him. Meanwhile, Robbo and Jasmine wait at the hospital until Tori rejoins them after getting stills of the baby. She and Jasmine talk about going clothes shopping for the baby, which Robbo says they’ll have to leave him out of. Jasmine winds him up by giving a list of androgynous names for the baby.

Ziggy approaches Dean outside the surf club and tells him they need to talk. Willow goes over to Colby and asks if anything’s wrong with Dean but Colby’s attention is on Mackenzie’s car, which is parked in the No Parking area again. He goes up to Salt to confront her. Mackenzie says it’s a convenient spot. Colby replies it’s a life saving club and the space is for emergency vehicles. Mackenzie says she’s happy to be boxed in and ignores a phone call she says is from her dad. Colby tells her not to do it again or he’ll have her car towed. Mackenzie asks if he’s going easy on her because she’s a local now; he says yes.

Ziggy takes Dean to his van and produces the money, asking where it came from. Dean is initially annoyed she went snooping, but when it looks like she’s going to walk away he tells her the story: That his dad is former AFL star Rick Booth, that he paid for Karen’s house, that Rick didn’t want anything to do with him and gave him the money as a pay-off. He says he’s got half of it left, having spent some on the search for Bella, Colby and Chelsea’s wedding, food and fuel. Ziggy is sympathetic and says he’s better off without Rick. Dean assures her he won’t lie to her. At Salt, Mackenzie again gets a call from her dad and again ignores it.

At the Morgan house, Tori leaves a phone message for Justin saying to call back to find out if he’s having a niece or a nephew. Her phone rings instantly but the ID says it’s the obstetrician. At the Diner flat, Jasmine says regardless of sex the baby looked like Robbo; he retorts that it looked like an alien. He realises she’s not going to give up and, when Tori calls, says she wins…only to be thrown by her news. He and Jasmine go to the house where Tori explains she spoke to a receptionist who said she had to come back in because an issue had arisen. Neither she nor Jasmine saw anything on the scan. Robbo comforts her.
