Extended Summary
Robbo is driving Jasmine to the counselling session and asks if she’s all right. Jasmine says she’s worried about what the counselling might bring up and what she’ll find out about herself. Robbo assures her he’ll be there for her. Meanwhile, Justin and Ben collide outside the surf club and exchange awkward apologies. After they’ve parted, Maggie approaches Justin and wonders when he and Ben are going to be friends again. Justin asks her what you do when a woman asks you to surprise her.
John arrives home and steps in the remains of an egg on the floor. Jett explains he was trying to work out what he can do and can cross chef off the list. As Marilyn joins them, Jett ponders if he could be a stand-up comic without the standing up. Marilyn suggests he’s putting too much pressure on himself and that he and John should get some fresh air while she cleans up. Later, Jett is running along the beach…in his mind. In reality, he’s still in his wheelchair at home. He tells John and Marilyn that he thinks he might be having trouble because his mind hasn’t caught up with reality: He still dreams of running and walking.
Leah is surprised when Irene arrives back at the Diner instead of having the morning off. Irene explains Robbo took Jasmine and can’t tell if they’re back together or not. Leah says she needs to get ready for her mystery date, explaining her challenge to Justin. Irene says she can look forward to beer at Salt but Leah thinks Justin will think of something. At the surf club, Justin admits to Maggie that he has nothing. She suggests a boat trip or a picnic in the national park. He pops into the office to ask Alf if he knows what Leah likes but Alf retorts that he’s keeping his neck out. Maggie explains to Ben, who is unsympathetic about Justin running out of things to do after two weeks. Maggie asks why they can’t make up – Ziggy is back working for Justin and Brody’s doing the right thing by her – but Ben doesn’t see why he should make the first move.
Jasmine is fretting in the hospital corridor and Robbo assures her that the counselling is meant to help with this. Aiden calls her in and she admits she’d been tying herself in knots. Aiden asks about the guy outside. Jasmine starts off saying he’s just a friend before admitting they were engaged and that door’s not closed yet. She says everyone calls him Robbo but his real name’s Ryan Shaw. She admits she’s been having panic attacks and Aiden gets her to take deep breaths. At the Palmer house, Marilyn suggests Jett list his good qualities and then they work out what he can do with them. Jett is at a loss but when Marilyn reminds him how he helped after John’s brain tumour, Jett agrees he likes helping people and is pleased to see them still together. John sums this up: Determined, caring, good communication, lousy cook. Jett adds that he likes motivating people.
Alf joins Leah at the Diner and tells her about Justin struggling to think of anything. Leah says she just wanted things to stay fun and spontaneous and didn’t expect it to worry him. She gets a text from Justin telling her to meet him on the beach with swimmers. She arrives to find him with some surf boards. Leah is slightly bemused but Justin tells her he’s a simple guy and wants to share something that he enjoys with her. Surprised that she’s never tried it in all the years she’s lived in Summer Bay, he demonstrates how to paddle and then jump to your feet. Looking slightly amused, and possibly liking what she sees, Leah asks him to show her again.
Aiden asks Jasmine if she ever imagined her dad coming back. Jasmine says she used to stand by the window and look for him, dress up and practise telling him what she’d done, and think about him taking her places…but then she grew up and stopped. Aiden asks if that meant she stopped loving him or didn’t want him to come back but Jasmine says she still loves him. Aiden asks about Robbo and Jasmine says he did the same thing, leaving her. Aiden wants to bring him in, thinking it might help. Jasmine agrees and Aidens goes and puts it to Robbo. Meanwhile, the Palmers are still trying to think of a career for Jett. He says he likes working outdoors, then hits on an idea: He wants to help other soldiers who return injured, setting up meetings or workshops. John resolves to make it happen.
Justin is holding Leah’s board as she lies on her front and paddles it in the water; she doesn’t seem to be getting very far and is constantly drenched but seems to be enjoying herself. They eventually emerge and collapse onto the beach. Ben and Maggie watch from where they are sat further down. Maggie notes it’s good to see Leah happy and they recall Ben’s attempt to teach Maggie to surf, which put her off ever trying again. They note this is the first time they’ve been relaxed in a rather tumultuous year. At the Palmer house, John remarks to Marilyn that it’s good to see Jett focused. Marilyn is worried however since she’s not sure how to make his plans happen. John says he’ll move heaven and earth.
With Robbo in the room, Aiden asks Jasmine how she felt about Robbo leaving her and she says she felt abandoned and worthless, that he gave up too easily and didn’t love her. Aiden asks Robbo his reasons and he falteringly says it wasn’t because he didn’t love Jasmine: He’s felt cornered twice in his life, the first time he came out fighting and it didn’t end well, this time he ran away. He says the first time was when his family were murdered, 17th February 2015. Jasmine realises that was the date he found out Tori was pregnant. Meanwhile, Leah and Justin arrive at the surf club; Leah has had fun but suspects she was worse than Justin expected and says she’ll stick to enjoying the view. Justin gets a phone call saying something’s wrong with Raffy. They both rush out.
Jasmine and Robbo exchange apologies. Robbo says he never told Jasmine about the anniversary and acknowledges she was in a difficult position about the baby and Tori’s hard to say no to. Jasmine notes that’s the first time he hasn’t tarred her and Tori with the same brush. Aiden suggests they call it a day there but advises Jasmine to make another appointment. As they’re leaving, he gives Robbo his card, telling him that counselling could help Jasmine but Robbo needs it.
