Extended Summary

Robbo is going for a jog on the headland. He stops for several moments, looking anguished, before jogging back the way he came. At the Diner, Jasmine tells Irene and Willow that the counsellor can fit her in tomorrow and Tori pulled some strings. Irene offers to drive her but Jasmine says Robbo offered, which Irene isn’t sure is a good idea. Willow sees Leah and Justin enter and notes everyone else seems to be moving on with their lives. The pair tell Irene they’re going hiking and Irene notes that’s how new love starts and soon you’re vegging out in front of the telly. After Justin’s moved away, Irene apologises to Leah for using the L-word. Leah says she’s letting that and the wisecracks roll off her and it’s still less stressful than hiding the relationship.

John and Jett are sat outside the surf club. John comments on the fresh air and Jett, slightly withdrawn, just agrees with him. Marilyn turns up with some bottles of water and has to stop John undoing Jett’s for him. Jett spends most of his time staring at people playing ball games so John decides they need a change of scenery and wheels him inside. Marilyn makes a phone call. Meanwhile, Jasmine runs into Robbo outside the Diner, telling him about her appointment. Robbo is suddenly unenthusiastic, saying he’ll have to check the roster. Jasmine says Irene can take her if he can’t and Robbo awkwardly says he’ll be in touch.

Marilyn leaves John and Jett as Alf enters the surf club, telling him he was right about John but she doesn’t want to hurt his feelings. Alf reminds John he promised him a beer. John says he’s busy but Alf queries it so John reluctantly agrees, telling Jett he’ll be just upstairs. After they’ve gone, Marilyn tells Jett to follow her. Robbo approaches Willow and asks if she’s doing anything tomorrow morning. Willow says she was going to visit Russell but can work if he wants her to. Robbo says it’s fine. Marilyn leads Jett up to the headland and sits on a bench, saying he’s stronger than he was at the start. Jett thinks there won’t be any more new beginnings. Marilyn gives him a notebook and pen and says he can write ideas of what he wants to do, like playing pool. Jett says all he wanted was to be a soldier and things won’t be the same again. Marilyn agrees but says there’s still a world of possibilities.

Willow and Robbo are setting up for a class near the surf club and Willow talks about getting another qualification. Robbo leaves her to talk to Jasmine and tells her that he has to work tomorrow. He says she should get Irene to take her, adding that she’d probably be better at knowing what to say. At the Diner, Jett shows Marilyn that his page is still blank. Marilyn suggests he help out around the Diner by clearing tables. Irene is uncertain about the idea and Jett immediately drops some plates.

John has finished his drink but Alf’s is still half full and he refuses to rush. John tries to go, saying he has to get back to Jett. Alf says Marilyn’s there and even if she wasn’t Jett could cope. John says Jett needs support but Alf says John’s smothering him and Jett needs to fight his own battles. John knows he does too much for him but says he can’t watch him struggle. Alf says he has to and Jett would never hate him more than he loves him. At the Diner, Jett continues to shove chairs out of the way to get around and drop plates. Irene can’t watch anymore and goes outside. Leah and Justin turn up and Justin goes to pick up one of the plates but Marilyn stops him. Jett asks her to get him something.

Irene is outside with Jasmine, noting she’s not sure whether to let Marilyn carry on or not. Jasmine asks her to take her to the appointment since Robbo has to work. Willow arrives and notes she told Robbo she could cover if necessary. Jasmine concludes he got cold feet and Willow says Jasmine supported him when he needed it. Inside, Jett is now using a bowl to carry the plates. Alf and John arrive and Marilyn explains he’s helping out. Justin goes to put his plate on the counter as he and Leah leave but Jett insists on taking it, then goes to help Marilyn in the kitchen. Alf and John are pleased.

Willow approaches Robbo and asks him why he didn’t let her cover so he could help Jasmine. She says he offered Jasmine support and then took it away, and if you take people for granted you end up alone. Robbo starts to walk away, but when Willow mocks him, he comes back and says Jasmine will need support after the session and he’s worried he’ll say the wrong thing. Willow warns him that he could lose her. Later, Robbo is at his flat. He looks at a picture of his children on the phone and then photos of him and Jasmine, having flashbacks including them running together, attending Colby and Chelsea’s wedding and him proposing.

Alf, John, Marilyn and Jett are eating together at the Diner. John is impressed with Jett, and Marilyn notes it shows he can overcome challenges and has something to write in the notebook, which she explains to John. Even though clearing tables wasn’t on his wish list, Jett notes he wants to learn to play pool from the chair and also go for a beer with John. Back at the caravan park house, Leah and Justin decide on ice cream and a movie. Alf interrupts them kissing and, once Leah’s moved away, tells Justin that she’s like a daughter to him and people that hurt his family don’t live to tell the tale. He heads upstairs; Leah is amused, Justin somewhat scared. Leah comments on them vegging in front of the telly already.

Next morning, Jasmine meets Irene at the Diner for her lift. She is somewhat hesitant and Irene guesses it’s because of Robbo’s no-show. Jasmine admits she expected better. Irene says the counsellor will sort it out. At the surf club, Robbo is pacing until Willow arrives to take over and tells him to get going. Robbo thanks her for the tough love.

Justin meets Leah in the caravan park and they make plans to do something today: They’re not sure what but Leah wants something outdoorsy and exciting. Meanwhile, as Irene and Jasmine are about to leave, Robbo turns up wanting to talk to Jasmine. He tells her he wants to take her to the appointment. He admits he’s worried that he brought everything up by coming down hard on her and wants to make it up to her. Jasmine doesn’t want him there out of duty but Robbo says that’s not it: He wants to be there because he loves her. Jasmine smiles slightly.
