Extended Summary

Tori is near the Diner, searching through her bag, and manages to drop everything just before John and Marilyn come along. They ask about Raffy and Tori says she’s being taken off sedation. Marilyn has been reading about it and wonders if the experience might have changed her. Tori says it’s too early to tell but probably not. John notes she’ll have a lot of support, meaning himself and Marilyn, but Tori misunderstands, “agreeing” that Justin, Brody and Mason have been at the hospital a lot. As they speak, Justin is by Raffy’s side complaining about the old magazines available. He quizzes Mason who says bringing her round is a slow process but it’s going well so far. Justin wants to call Brody and Mason reminds him he has to leave the room to use the phone.

Ziggy finds Brody on the beach and says she’s the worst wife in the world and shouldn’t have pushed him. Brody jokes not in the world, just this side of Yabbie Creek. Ziggy apologises and Brody kisses her and says he loves that she tried to distract him and isn’t upset about her but about Raffy being in hospital. He decides to go back and try again, since Raffy would hate for the cauliflower pizza to be wasted. At the house, Leah is reviewing the footage they shot. Brody and Ziggy return and Brody says they’ll do it with less emotion and more cooking instructions.

John finds Marilyn at the Diner, sorting out a budget. She thinks she needs to take time off work to look after Raffy full-time and plans to do a first aid course. Outside, John chats to Ben about Maggie; Ben is struggling to work out what to do with all the free time. Marilyn joins them and asks how Maggie’s doing. Ben says she seems exhausted and Marilyn agrees she might be pushing herself too hard.

In her office, Maggie is doing the paperwork in a rather mechanical fashion. She stops and goes to leave but then the phone rings. However, she ends up ignoring it and leaving anyway. Meanwhile, Brody finishes his presentation and puts the pizza in the oven. Leah and Ziggy congratulate him. Brody tells Leah to erase the footage of his first attempt but Leah thinks it was amazing: raw, emotional and real. She offers to do two versions, with one using the original footage, and let him pick which one she uses.

Tori has joined Justin and Mason in Raffy’s room and confirms that things seem to be going well. She tells Raffy, who appears to still be unconscious, that they’re removing the medication so she can wake up. She asks Raffy to squeeze her hands. Back in the caravan park house, Leah, Brody and Ziggy are eating the pizza. The women encourage Brody to let the world see his vulnerable side with the footage. Brody gets a call from Justin and goes outside to take it. Leah and Ziggy discuss the fact he seems to be a natural with the camera. Brody comes back and says Raffy’s starting to come round so he and Ziggy leave.

Raffy now has her eyes open as Tori and Mason remove her breathing tube and fix her up to oxygen. John, Marilyn and Justin are waiting in the corridor outside and Brody and Ziggy join them and get an update. Tori asks Raffy basic questions and she manages to say she’s in hospital and it’s 2018. Tori goes outside to tell the others and says they can see her in a minute.

Ben is surprised to find Maggie outside the bait shop when he returns from a surf; she says she needed some fresh air. Ben wonders if she’s pushed herself too hard going back to work. Maggie says that it’s not that she can’t do the work but can’t really explain what the problem is. She gets a call from school saying a student may have broken an arm and heads off. Later, Ben turns up at the office and suggest sorting out a roster so he and Coco do the household chores. Maggie says that’s what they did when she was having chemo and she didn’t go through it to behave like a cancer patient. Ben convinces her to leave with him.

Everyone crowds in to see Raffy, thanks to Tori bending the rules. Raffy greets them all but almost immediately she goes off again and starts fitting. The room is cleared as Tori and Mason lead staff treating her. Soon after, Tori comes out and says Raffy’s sleeping. Justin demands to know why the seizures are still happening. Tori says it was always a possibility but Raffy’s being sent for an MRI to check there isn’t a secondary bleed. John suggests he and Marilyn get some air. As they walk through a park area, John tries to assure her Raffy will be all right. Marilyn wants to give up work to look after Raffy. John says the Morgans might want her to live with them to start with, since they’ve got two doctors there. Marilyn protests that Raffy’s home is their home now.

Justin, Brody, Mason and Ziggy are back in Raffy’s room, trying to raise her spirits. Tori joins them and says the scan showed no further bleeding. The seizures are therefore a side effect of the head injury: Post-traumatic epilepsy. They might only last a couple of weeks but it could be longer. Raffy is devastated. Meanwhile, Ben and Maggie walk along the beach. Maggie says she thought going back to work would make her feel normal but instead she feels empty. Ben suggests a period of adjustment or going back to the classroom. Maggie says even then she’d be teaching the same things she’s done for ten years. She doesn’t know what she wants but didn’t beat cancer for this.

John and Marilyn arrive back at the hospital with coffee, joining Tori, Justin, Brody, Mason and Ziggy. Tori says Raffy will have to stay in hospital another week but it looks like the epilepsy is permanent. This shocks Marilyn, who hadn’t even been told it was epilepsy, and Tori apologises. She goes on to say that it will be controlled with medication but it’ll be trial and error at first, and Raffy will have to make lifestyle changes and can’t be left alone. The Morgans begin making plans for a roster so one of them can be with her. Marilyn walks a little away and tells John she thinks he was right: The Morgans want Raffy to live with them and the Palmers are going to lose her.
