Extended Summary

Ziggy sees Ben and Maggie in a good mood near the beach and hopes it’s because of the test results. Maggie confirms her markers are down: She hasn’t told Coco since she’s still at school. Ziggy is delighted although Maggie stresses she’s not in the clear yet. Ben says there’s only 28 more days to go. At the Morgan house, Mason is annoyed to find Brody raiding their milk, telling him to go to the shops himself and reiterating that he’s not going to let people walk over him. After he’s left for college, Brody picks up the guitar. Mason comes back, having forgotten something, and is surprised to see him with the instrument, since he hasn’t played since their mum died. Brody shuts the questioning short by reminding Mason he has to get to an exam.

Colby and Chelsea are also walking near the beach. Chelsea is disappointed at Colby’s response. Colby says he hasn’t seen her in months, it was her choice to end things and he’s moved on. They’re interrupted by Marilyn and Colby introduces Chelsea as a colleague, which obviously upsets her. Marilyn heads off to the Diner and Chelsea says she’s lost her appetite. Later, Colby is at the Diner in uniform. Alf, Marilyn and John are all discussing the merits of having another police officer around. Chelsea arrives and is introduced to John. He notes that they have ratbags like the River Boys around, then realises he’s being indiscreet. Both Colby and Chelsea look awkward as they leave.

Coco gives Maggie a tight hug. She and Raffy try to use the news to get out of studying but Maggie insists they proceed. Ziggy suggests going out for a meal but Ben points out Maggie hasn’t got the all-clear yet. Ziggy decides she’ll cook a special meal. She goes to raid Salt for ingredients and explains to Brody that Maggie can’t be around other restaurant patrons because of the germs. Brody says he’s got an idea to make things special.

Coco tells Raffy that she hasn’t heard from Ryder in days; she misses him but knows splitting up was the right thing to do. Ziggy returns and announces Brody is closing Salt and cooking them a special meal. She promises Ben and Maggie that it was his idea. Raffy makes to go but Ziggy says she’s her sister-in-law so she’s welcome too. At the police station, Chelsea goes over to Colby’s desk and gives him an engagement ring back. Colby says to keep it but Chelsea says she only wants it if he gives it to her so they can spend the rest of their lives together. Colby says that won’t’happen and Chelsea says she thought that before. Colby says what she’s doing won’t work and she should leave.

John and Marilyn are going for something of a power walk near the surf club, hoping to make it up to the lighthouse. They see Brody putting a sign up saying Salt is closed for a private function. He explains about Maggie’s results and also notes Raffy is joining them (she had already asked to spend the night at Coco’s). Brody heads home to get the guitar and runs into Mason, asking him how his exam went. He explains he intends to play for Ziggy and her family, since she hasn’t seen that side of him: He gave up because of the memories but wants to make some new ones. Mason wishes him luck and Brody notes Mason sounded like his old self for a moment.

Brody places the guitar behind the bar at Salt. Ziggy, Coco, Ben, Maggie and Raffy turn up and Brody shows them to their table. He says none of the Astonis need to lift a finger, so ropes Raffy into being his assistant. Later, the diners are all settling back after the main course. Maggie declines another drink, Ziggy takes one and everyone refuses to let Coco have one. Raffy goes to check on Brody and dessert and sees Justin’s guitar. Brody explains he plays a bit but isn’t sure about playing in front of everyone. Raffy says if he doesn’t no-one will know, but if he does they’ll like it anyway.

Chelsea follows Colby into the file room, trying to get him to talk to her. Colby says he’s still a River Boy and Chelsea says that isn’t a secret now. Colby says she ended things between them which Chelsea disagrees with. They are interrupted by another officer and relocate to the cells. Chelsea says she wanted Colby to tell the truth. Colby says he’d have lost his job. Chelsea says she nearly lost hers and he knew what she was like when he told her. Colby kisses her, but doesn’t respond when Chelsea asks if they’re really over. She leaves, frustrated. Later, at the Diner, Alf, John and Marilyn discuss the walk to the lighthouse. Chelsea comes in and Alf asks how long she needs the van, suggesting she get somewhere permanent. Chelsea says she’s not sure yet. She asks where Colby lives and Alf explains how close she is.

The crowd at Salt are bewildered when Brody sets himself up with a stool and the guitar and starts playing. Ziggy admits to Maggie she had no idea he could play. When he finishes, they applaud. At the same time, Colby is looking at the ring in his flat. Chelsea turns up. Colby is more apologetic but still wants her to go. Chelsea says he hasn’t said he doesn’t love her. Colby does so, but can’t look at her while doing so and sounds somewhat unconvincing. Chelsea says they’re good for each other and she’s not going anywhere.

Everyone is chatting about what a surprise Brody was and realise he hasn’t come back from getting the cake. Maggie decides to go and look for him and finds him in the store room having a panic attack. She does her best to calm him.
