Without a friend in sight, Ryder ends up in a spot of trouble. Ziggy is at a loss on how to help her husband. Maggie and Ben are shocked when Ziggy reveals details of Brody’s family history.

Extended Summary

Ben, Ziggy, Coco and Raffy jokingly debate what’s taking Brody so long. In the store room, Brody has calmed down and asks Maggie not to tell Ziggy what happened. Ben and Ziggy appear and Brody says he was just getting some champagne for dessert. Ziggy realises he asked Maggie not to talk to her. Maggie says she doesn’t know any more than Ziggy does. At the Diner, John and Marilyn discuss their hike to the lighthouse. Leah tries to make pointed comments about getting out to Ryder, since he’s mostly been indoors since breaking up with Coco. John checks Ryder has nothing to do, then says he can earn extra cash by helping him with a delivery.

Everyone thanks Brody for his efforts with the meal and Brody refuses to let them help with the cleaning up. Raffy gives him a hug and says he’ll have to give her guitar lessons, which he doesn’t commit to. Raffy and Coco go to the bathroom. Ziggy follows Brody out onto the balcony and asks him what was really going on in the storeroom. Brody explains his mother taught him to play and it brought a few things up but doesn’t want to talk any further. Downstairs, Ryder is moving the delivery around while John “supervises”. Raffy and Coco come downstairs. Ryder is put out they had a celebration and didn’t invite him. Ben and Maggie walk past, saying they’ll meet the girls outside. Raffy suggests the three of them hang out tomorrow and Ryder suggests meeting for breakfast.

Back at home, Ben and Maggie chat about the effort Brody went to. Ben wonders what was going on with him and Maggie says he was having a full-blown panic attack. She doesn’t know what it was about but doesn’t think it was to do with Ziggy. Next morning at the Diner, Ryder is giving a less-than-interested Dean a speech about how awesome it will be hanging out with his friends again. Leah asks if Ryder has anywhere to go and he says he’s meeting Raffy and Coco there. Dean passes Chelsea and gets his none-too-serious offer to buy her coffee rejected. Leah heads off for the gym while Chelsea settles at a table.

Later, Ryder is going for a walk on the beach with Raffy and Coco. He suggests they go for a swim and go and see a horror movie but they’re not interested in the first and are doing the second for a friend’s birthday. They decide to go shopping in Yabbie Creek. Ryder declines to join them. Raffy says the day was supposed to be the three of them but Ryder claims it’s okay and they say they’ll call him when they’re done. On another part of the beach, Ryder watches Dean playing ball with some other guys. Dean comes over and Ryder says his friends are doing girly things, suggesting Dean play pool with him. One of the other guys wolf-whistles Chelsea and suggests she come and play with them, so Dean keeps the ball and sends him on his way. He tells Chelsea the offer to put in a good word with Colby is still there.

Brody is putting the guitar away at the Morgan house when Ziggy comes to the door. He says he just wanted to play for her. Ziggy says she liked it but Brody says it’s not going to happen again and refuses to talk. Ziggy goes to see Ben and Maggie and explains why Brody was in a strange mood last night. She isn’t sure what to do. They suggest he has stuff to work through.

Leah runs into Ryder outside the house and he explains about Raffy and Coco, complaining about being expected to do what they want. Leah suggests he needs to find some new friends but Ryder isn’t impressed by the implication that he’s got none and heads inside to play Xbox. Later, Leah discusses it with Ben, Maggie and Marilyn at the Diner. Ben can’t offer much insight, saying he preferred girls at that age, but suggests getting him into lifesaving. Leah isn’t sure but Marilyn says John’s always looking for new recruits and he’ll meet people his own age.

Ziggy turns up at Salt but Brody’s in something of a rush. She suggests she spoil him with dinner and a movie. Brody says she can’t fix his problems and also refuses to talk again. Later, Ziggy meets up with Ben and Maggie by the beach and berates herself for trying to fix his grief like that. She says she doesn’t know how to help him. Maggie says perhaps she can.

Maggie finds Brody sitting on the beach and sits down next to him, thanking him for his efforts last night. She says Ziggy told them about his mum and thinks she’d be proud of him. Brody isn’t convinced she’d be impressed by a recovering drug addict that nearly killed his brother but recalls how much she enjoyed his playing. Maggie says maybe he could continue playing to honour her. She goes to leave but Brody asks her to stay. Later, he meets Ziggy at Salt and apologises for his behaviour, saying he’s been reminded how many people love him and will pick up the guitar every now and then.

At the surf club, Leah and John try to pitch the lifesavers to Ryder. Leah tries to emphasise the social side of it but John stresses it requires hard work. Ryder sees through the attempt and says he sees enough of John as it is. He sees people going into the gym and follows them. A trainer gets him to fill out forms and says he’s going to set up some guys outside then come back to give him orientation, telling Ryder not to touch any equipment. Left alone, Ryder wanders around and comes across the weights. He lies down and struggles to lift them, ending up with them across his chest and unable to move them. He weakly calls out for help in a panic and eventually John and the trainer rescue him. Ryder runs out to the surf club. John follows and berates him for using the weights with no-one with him. Ryder says there is no-one: Raffy and Coco don’t want to hang out with him, so with Ty gone he has no friends and has to get used to it.
